Ki½ nu kho, bhante n±gasena, arah± daº¹abhay± tasati niraye v± nerayik± satt± jalit± kuthit± tatt± santatt± tamh± jalitaggij±lak± mah±niray± cavam±n± maccuno bh±yanti. Yadi, bhante n±gasena, bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti, tena hi ‘arah± sabbabhayamatikkanto’ti ya½ vacana½, ta½ micch±. Yadi bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘arah± sabbabhayamatikkanto’ti, tena hi ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti tampi vacana½ micch±. Aya½ ubhato koµiko pañho tav±nuppatto, so tay± nibb±hitabbo”ti.
“Neta½, mah±r±ja, vacana½ bhagavat± arahante up±d±ya bhaºita½ ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti. Ýhapito arah± tasmi½ vatthusmi½, sam³hato bhayahetu arahato. Ye te, mah±r±ja, satt± sakiles±, yesañca adhimatt± att±nudiµµhi, ye ca sukhadukkhesu unnat±vanat±, te up±d±ya bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti. Arahato, mah±r±ja, sabbagati upacchinn±, yoni viddha½sit±, paµisandhi upahat±, bhagg± ph±suk±, sam³hat± sabbabhav±lay±, samucchinn± sabbasaªkh±r±, hata½ kusal±kusala½, vihat± avijj±, ab²ja½ viññ±ºa½ kata½, da¹¹h± sabbakiles±, ativatt± lokadhamm±, tasm± arah± na tasati sabbabhayehi.
“Idha, mah±r±ja, rañño catt±ro mah±matt± bhaveyyu½ anurakkh± laddhayas± viss±sik± µhapit± mahati issariye µh±ne. Atha r±j± kismiñci deva karaº²ye samuppanne y±vat± sakavijite sabbajanassa ±º±peyya ‘sabbeva me bali½ karontu, s±dhetha tumhe catt±ro mah±matt± ta½ karaº²yan’ti. Api nu kho, mah±r±ja, tesa½ catunna½ mah±matt±na½ balibhay± sant±so uppajjeyy±”ti? “Na hi bhante”ti. “Kena k±raºena mah±r±j±”ti. “Ýhapit± te, bhante, raññ± uttamaµµh±ne, natthi tesa½ bali, samatikkantabalino te, avasese up±d±ya raññ± ±º±pita½ ‘sabbeva me bali½ karont³’ti. “Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, neta½ vacana½ bhagavat± arahante up±d±ya bhaºita½, µhapito arah± tasmi½ vatthusmi½, sam³hato bhayahetu arahato, ye te, mah±r±ja, satt± sakiles±, yesañca adhimatt± att±nudiµµhi, ye ca sukhadukkhesu unnat±vanat± te up±d±ya bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti. Tasm± arah± na tasati sabbabhayeh²”ti.
“Neta½, bhante n±gasena, vacana½ s±vasesa½, niravasesavacanameta½ ‘sabbe’ti. Tattha me uttari½ k±raºa½ br³hi ta½ vacana½ patiµµh±petun”ti.
“Idha, mah±r±ja, g±me g±mass±miko ±º±paka½ ±º±peyya ‘ehi, bho ±º±paka, y±vat± g±me g±mik±, te sabbe s²gha½ mama santike sannip±teh²’ti. So ‘s±dhu s±m²’ti sampaµicchitv± g±mamajjhe µhatv± tikkhattu½ saddamanuss±veyya ‘y±vat± g±me g±mik±, te sabbe s²ghas²gha½ s±mino santike sannipatant³’ti. Tato te g±mik± ±º±pakassa vacanena turitaturit± sannipatitv± g±mass±mikassa ±rocenti ‘sannipatit±, s±mi, sabbe g±mik±, ya½ te karaº²ya½ ta½ karoh²’ti. Iti so, mah±r±ja, g±mass±miko kuµipurise sannip±tento sabbe g±mike ±º±peti, te ca ±ºatt± na sabbe sannipatanti, kuµipuris± yeva sannipatanti, ‘ettak± yeva me g±mik±’ti g±mass±miko ca tath± sampaµicchati, aññe bahutar± an±gat± itthipuris± d±sid±s± bhatak± kammakar± g±mik± gil±n± gomahi½s± aje¼ak± suv±n±, ye an±gat±, sabbe te agaºit±, kuµipurise yeva up±d±ya ±º±pitatt± ‘sabbe sannipatant³’ti. Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, neta½ vacana½ bhagavat± arahante up±d±ya bhaºita½, µhapito arah± tasmi½ vatthusmi½, sam³hato bhayahetu arahato, ye te, mah±r±ja, satt± sakiles±, yesañca adhimatt± att±nudiµµhi, ye ca sukhadukkhesu unnat±vanat±, te up±d±ya bhagavat± bhaºita½ ‘sabbe tasanti daº¹assa, sabbe bh±yanti maccuno’ti Tasm± arah± na tasati sabbabhayehi.
“Atthi, mah±r±ja, s±vasesa½ vacana½ s±vaseso attho, atthi s±vasesa½ vacana½ niravaseso attho, atthi niravasesa½ vacana½ s±vaseso attho, atthi niravasesa½ vacana½ niravaseso attho. Tena tena attho sampaµicchitabbo.
“Pañcavidhehi, mah±r±ja, k±raºehi attho sampaµicchitabbo ±haccapadena rasena ±cariyava½sena [±cariyava½sat±ya (p². ka.)] adhipp±y± k±raºuttariyat±ya. Ettha hi ±haccapadanti sutta½ adhippeta½. Rasoti sutt±nuloma½. ¾cariyava½soti ±cariyav±do. Adhipp±yoti attano mati. K±raºuttariyat±ti imehi cat³hi samenta½ [sameta½ (s².)] k±raºa½. Imehi kho, mah±r±ja, pañcahi k±raºehi attho sampaµicchitabbo. Evameso pañho suvinicchito hot²”ti.
“Hotu, bhante n±gasena, tath± ta½ sampaµicch±mi. Ýhapito hotu arah± tasmi½ vatthusmi½, tasantu avases± satt±, niraye pana nerayik± satt± dukkh± tibb± kaµuk± vedan± vedayam±n± jalitapajjalitasabbaªgapaccaªg± ruººak±ruññakanditaparidevital±lappitamukh± asayhatibbadukkh±bhibh³t± at±º± asaraº± asaraº²bh³t± anappasok±tur± antimapacchimagatik± ekantasokapar±yaº± uºhatikhiºacaº¹akharatapanatejavanto bh²mabhayajanakanin±damah±sadd± sa½sibbitachabbidhaj±l±m±l±kul± samant± satayojan±nupharaºacciveg± kadariy± tapan± mah±niray± cavam±n± maccuno bh±yant²”ti? “¾ma, mah±r±j±”ti.
“Nanu, bhante n±gasena, nirayo ekantadukkhavedan²yo, kissa pana te nerayik± satt± ekantadukkhavedan²y± niray± cavam±n± maccuno bh±yanti, kissa niraye ramant²”ti? “Na te, mah±r±ja, nerayik± satt± niraye ramanti, muñcituk±m±va te niray±. Maraºasseva so [maraºasseso (s². p².)], mah±r±ja, ±nubh±vo, yena tesa½ sant±so uppajjat²”ti. “Eta½ kho, bhante n±gasena, na saddah±mi, ya½ muccituk±m±na½ cutiy± sant±so uppajjat²ti, h±san²ya½ bhante n±gasena, ta½ µh±na½, ya½ te patthita½ labhanti, k±raºena ma½ saññ±peh²”ti.
“Maraºanti kho, mah±r±ja, eta½ adiµµhasacc±na½ t±san²yaµµh±na½, etth±ya½ jano tasati ca ubbijjati ca. Yo ca, mah±r±ja, kaºhasappassa bh±yati, so maraºassa bh±yanto kaºhasappassa bh±yati. Yo ca hatthissa bh±yati…pe… s²hassa…pe… byagghassa…pe… d²pissa…pe… acchassa…pe… taracchassa…pe… mahi½sassa…pe… gavayassa…pe… aggissa…pe… udakassa…pe… kh±ºukassa…pe… kaºµakassa bh±yati. Yo ca sattiy± bh±yati, so maraºassa bh±yanto sattiy± bh±yati. Maraºasseva so [maraºasseso (s². p².)], mah±r±ja, sarasasabh±vatejo [sarasabh±vatejo (s². p².)], tassa sarasasabh±vatejena sakiles± satt± maraºassa tasanti bh±yanti, muccituk±m±pi, mah±r±ja, nerayik± satt± maraºassa tasanti bh±yanti.
“Idha, mah±r±ja, purisassa k±ye medo gaºµhi uppajjeyya. So tena rogena dukkhito upaddav± parimuccituk±mo bhisakka½ sallakatta½ ±mant±peyya. Tassa vacana½ so bhisakko sallakatto sampaµicchitv± tassa rogassa uddharaº±ya upakaraºa½ upaµµh±peyya, satthaka½ tikhiºa½ kareyya yamakasal±k± [dahanasal±ka½ (ka.)] aggimhi pakkhipeyya, kh±ralavaºa½ nisad±ya pis±peyya, api nu kho, mah±r±ja, tassa ±turassa tikhiºasatthakacchedanena yamakasal±k±dahanena kh±raloºappavesanena t±so uppajjeyy±”ti? “¾ma bhante”ti. “Iti, mah±r±ja, tassa ±turassa rog± muccituk±mass±pi vedan±bhay± sant±so uppajjati. Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, niray± muccituk±m±nampi nerayik±na½ satt±na½ maraºabhay± sant±so uppajjati.
“Idha, mah±r±ja, puriso issar±par±dhiko baddho saªkhalikabandhanena gabbhe pakkhitto parimuccituk±mo assa, tamena½ so issaro mocetuk±mo pakkos±peyya. Api nu kho, mah±r±ja, tassa issar±par±dhikassa purisassa ‘katadoso ahan’ti j±nantassa issaradassanena sant±so uppajjeyy±”ti? “¾ma bhante”ti. “Iti, mah±r±ja, tassa issar±par±dhikassa purisassa parimuccituk±m±ss±pi issarabhay± sant±so uppajjati. Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, niray± muccituk±m±nampi nerayik±na½ satt±na½ maraºabhay± sant±so uppajjat²”ti.
“Aparampi bhante, uttari½ k±raºa½ br³hi, yen±ha½ k±raºena okappeyyan”ti. “Idha, mah±r±ja, puriso daµµhavisena ±s²visena daµµho bhaveyya, so tena visavik±rena pateyya uppateyya vaµµeyya pavaµµeyya, athaññataro puriso balavantena mantapadena ta½ daµµhavisa½ ±s²visa½ ±netv± ta½ daµµhavisa½ pacc±cam±peyya, api nu kho, mah±r±ja, tassa visagatassa purisassa tasmi½ daµµhavise sappe sotthihetu upagacchante sant±so uppajjeyy±”ti? “¾ma bhante”ti. Iti, mah±r±ja, tath±r³pe ahimhi sotthihetupi upagacchante tassa sant±so uppajjati. Evameva kho, mah±r±ja, niray± muccituk±m±nampi nerayik±na½ sant±na½ maraºabhay± sant±so uppajjati. Aniµµha½, mah±r±ja, sabbasatt±na½ maraºa½, tasm± nerayik± satt± niray± parimuccituk±m±pi maccuno bh±yant²”ti. “S±dhu, bhante n±gasena, evameta½ tath± sampaµicch±m²”ti.
