Tena hi, moggall±na, dhamma½ mayha½ kathetv± y±hi, t±disassa s±vakassa id±ni dassana½ natth²ti. So “eva½ kariss±mi, bhante”ti satth±ra½ vanditv± t±lappam±ºa½ ±k±se uppatitv± parinibb±nadivase s±riputtatthero viya n±nappak±r± iddhiyo katv± dhamma½ kathetv± satth±ra½ vanditv± k±¼asil±ya½ aµaviya½ parinibb±yi.
Taªkhaºaññeva cha devalok± ekakol±hal± ahesu½, “amh±ka½ kira ±cariyo parinibbuto”ti dibbagandham±l±v±sadh³macandanacuºº±ni ceva n±n±d±r³ni ca gahetv± ±gami½su, ek³nasataratanacandanacitak± ahosi. Satth± therassa santike µhatv± sar²ranikkhepa½ k±resi. ¾¼±hanassa samantato yojanamatte padese pupphavassa½ vassi. Dev±na½ antare manuss±, manuss±na½ antare dev± ahesu½. Yath±kkamena dev±na½ antare yakkh± tiµµhanti, yakkh±na½ antare gandhabb± tiµµhanti, gandhabb±na½ antare n±g± tiµµhanti, n±g±na½ antare venateyy± tiµµhanti, venateyy±na½ antare kinnar± tiµµhanti, kinnar±na½ antare chatt± tiµµhanti, chatt±na½ antare suvaººac±mar± tiµµhanti, tesa½ antare dhaj± tiµµhanti, tesa½ antare paµ±k± tiµµhanti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva moggall±no mama santik± samm±na½ labhati, pubbepi labhiyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto purohitassa br±hmaºiy± kucchimhi paµisandhi½ gaºhitv± dasam±saccayena pacc³sasamaye m±tukucchito nikkhami. Tasmi½ khaºe dv±dasayojanike b±r±ºasinagare sabb±vudh±ni pajjali½su. Purohito puttassa j±takkhaºe bahi nikkhamitv± ±k±sa½ olokento nakkhattayoga½ disv± “imin± nakkhattena j±tatt± eso kum±ro sakalajambud²pe dhanuggah±na½ aggo bhavissat²”ti ñatv± k±lasseva r±jakula½ gantv± r±j±na½ sukhasayitabh±va½ pucchi. “Kuto me, ±cariya, sukha½, ajja sakalanivesane ±vudh±ni pajjalit±n²”ti vutte “m± bh±yi, deva, na tumh±ka½ nivesaneyeva, sakalanagarepi pajjali½suyeva, ajja amh±ka½ gehe kum±rassa j±tatt± eva½ ahos²”ti. “¾cariya, eva½ j±takum±rassa pana ki½ bhavissat²”ti? “Na kiñci, mah±r±ja, so pana sakalajambud²pe dhanuggah±na½ aggo bhavissat²”ti. “S±dhu, ±cariya, tena hi na½ paµijaggitv± vayappattak±le amh±ka½ dasseyy±s²”ti vatv± kh²ram³la½ t±va sahassa½ d±pesi. So mahantena pariv±rena va¹¹ham±no so¼asavassak±le uttamar³padharo ahosi. Athassa pit± sar²rasampatti½ oloketv± sahassa½ datv±, “t±ta, takkasila½ gantv± dis±p±mokkhassa ±cariyassa santike sippa½ uppaºh±h²”ti ±ha. Athassa ±cariyo tussitv± attano santaka½ khaggaratana½ sandhiyutta½ meº¹akasiªgadhanu½ sandhiyutta½ t³º²ra½ attano sann±hakañcuka½ uºh²sañca datv± “t±ta jotipola, aha½ mahallako, id±ni tva½ ime m±ºavake sikkh±peh²”ti pañcasatam±ºavakepi tasseva niyy±desi. Bodhisatto sabba½ upakaraºa½ gahetv± ±cariya½ vanditv± b±r±ºasimeva ±gantv± m±t±pitaro vanditv± aµµh±si. Atha na½ vanditv± µhita½ pit± avoca “uggahita½ te, t±ta, sippan”ti. “¾ma, t±t±”ti. So tassa vacana½ sutv± r±jakula½ gantv± “putto me deva, sippa½ sikkhitv± ±gato, ki½ karot³”ti ±ha. “¾cariya, amhe upaµµhahat³”ti. “Paribbayamassa j±n±tha, dev±”ti. “So devasika½ sahassa½ labhat³”ti. So “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± geha½ gantv± kum±ra½ pakkos±petv± “t±ta, r±j±na½ upaµµhah±”ti ±ha. So tato paµµh±ya devasika½ sahassa½ labhitv± r±j±na½ upaµµhahi.
R±jap±dam³lik± ujjh±yi½su– “maya½ jotip±lena katakamma½ na pass±ma, devasika½ sahassa½ gaºh±ti, mayamassa sippa½ passituk±m±”ti. R±j± tesa½ vacana½ sutv± purohitassa kathesi. Purohito “s±dhu, dev±”ti puttass±rocesi. So “s±dhu, t±ta, ito sattame divase dassess±mi sippa½, apica r±j± attano vijite dhanuggahe sannip±t±pet³”ti ±ha. Purohito gantv± rañño tamattha½ ±rocesi. R±j± nagare bheri½ car±petv± dhanuggahe sannip±t±pesi. Saµµhisahass± dhanuggah± sannipati½su.
