N±smase katap±pamh²ti ida½ satth± ve¼uvane viharanto devadattassa vadh±ya parisakkana½ ±rabbha kathesi. Dhammasabh±yańhi bhikkh³ devadattassa aguŗakatha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “±vuso, devadatto dhanuggah±dipayojanena dasabalassa vadhatthameva up±ya½ karot²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi esa mayha½ vadh±ya parisakkiyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.

Tad± bodhisatto ekasmi½ ve¼uvane kukkuµayoniya½ nibbattitv± anekasatakukkuµapariv±ro arańńe vasati, tass±vid³re eko seno vasati So up±yena ekeka½ kukkuµa½ gahetv± kh±danto µhapetv± bodhisatta½ sese kh±di, bodhisatto ekakova ahosi. So appamatto vel±ya gocara½ gahetv± ve¼uvana½ pavisitv± vasati. So seno ta½ gaŗhitu½ asakkonto “ekena na½ up±yena upal±petv± gaŗhiss±m²”ti cintetv± tass±vid³re s±kh±ya nil²yitv± “samma kukkuµar±ja, tva½ mayha½ kasm± bh±yasi, aha½ tay± saddhi½ viss±sa½ kattuk±mo, asukasmi½ n±ma padese sampannagocaro, tattha ubhopi gocara½ gahetv± ańńamańńa½ piyasa½v±sa½ vasiss±m±”ti ±ha. Atha na½ bodhisatto ±ha “samma, mayha½ tay± saddhi½ viss±so n±ma natthi, gaccha tvan”ti. “Samma, tva½ may± pubbe katap±pat±ya na saddahasi, ito paµµh±ya evar³pa½ na kariss±m²”ti. “Na mayha½ t±disena sah±yenattho, gaccha tvan”ti. Iti na½ y±vatatiya½ paµikkhipitv± “etehi aŖgehi samann±gatena puggalena saddhi½ viss±so n±ma k±tu½ na vaµµat²”ti vanaghaµa½ unn±dento devat±su s±dhuk±ra½ dadam±n±su dhammakatha½ samuµµh±pento–

N±smase attatthapańńamh²ti attano atth±ya eva yassa pańń± snehavasena na bhajati, dhanatthikova bhajati, tasmi½ attatthapańńepi na vissase. Atisanteti anto upasame avijjam±neyeva ca bahi upasamadassanena atisante viya paµicchannakammantepi bilapaµicchanna-±s²visasadise kuhakapuggale. Gopip±sikaj±tik±ti gunna½ pip±sakaj±tik± viya, pip±sitagosadis±ti vutta½ hoti. Yath± pip±sitag±vo tittha½ otaritv± mukhap³ra½ udaka½ pivanti, na pana udakassa kattabbayuttaka½ karonti, evameva ekacce “idańcidańca kariss±m±”ti madhuravacanena mitt±ni ghasanti, piyavacan±nucchavika½ pana na karonti, t±disesu viss±so mahato anatth±ya hot²ti d²peti.

N±n±vikatv± sa½sagganti yopi na sakk± anupagantv± etassa antar±ya½ k±tunti antar±yakaraŗattha½ n±n±k±raŗehi sa½saggam±vikatv± da¼ha½ karitv± pacch± antar±ya½ karoti, t±disampi puggala½ n±smase na vissaseyy±ti d²peti.
Anariyakammamokkantati anariy±na½ duss²l±na½ kamma½ otaritv± µhita½. Athetanti athira½ appatiµµhitavacana½. Sabbagh±tinanti ok±sa½ labhitv± sabbesa½ upagh±takara½. Nisita½va paµicchannanti kosiy± v± pilotik±ya v± paµicchanna½ nisitakhaggamiva. T±disamp²ti evar³pampi amitta½ mittapatir³paka½ na vissaseyya. S±khalyen±ti maµµhavacanena. Acetas±ti acittakena. Vacanameva hi nesa½ maµµha½, citta½ pana thaddha½ pharusa½. Vividheh²ti vividhehi up±yehi ot±r±pekkh± upagacchanti. T±disamp²ti yo etehi amittehi mittapatir³pakehi sadiso hoti, tampi na vissaseti attho. ¾misanti kh±dan²yabhojan²ya½. Dhananti mańcapaµip±daka½ ±di½ katv± avasesa½. Yattha passat²ti sah±yakagehe yasmi½ µh±ne passati. Dubbhi½ karot²ti dubbhicitta½ upp±deti, ta½ dhana½ harati. Tańca hantv±n±ti tańca sah±yakampi chetv± gacchati. Iti im± satta g±th± kukkuµar±j± kathesi.
111. “Mittar³pena bahavo, chann± sevanti sattavo;
jahe k±purise hete, kukkuµo viya senaka½.
112. “Yo ca uppatita½ attha½, na khippamanubujjhati;
amittavasamanveti, pacch± ca manutappati.
113. “Yo ca uppatita½ attha½, khippameva nibodhati;
muccate sattusamb±dh±, kukkuµo viya senak±.
114. “Ta½ t±disa½ k³µamivo¹¹ita½ vane, adhammika½ niccavidha½sak±rina½;
±r± vivajjeyya naro vicakkhaŗo, sena½ yath± kukkuµo va½sak±nane”ti.–

Tattha jahe k±purise heteti bhikkhave, ete k±purise paŗ¹ito jaheyya. Ha-k±ro panettha nip±tamatta½. Pacch± ca manutappat²ti pacch± ca anutappati. K³µamivo¹¹itanti vane mig±na½ bandhanatth±ya k³µap±sa½ viya o¹¹ita½. Niccavidha½sak±rinanti nicca½ viddha½sanakara½. Va½sak±naneti yath± va½savane kukkuµo sena½ vivajjeti, eva½ vicakkhaŗo p±pamitte vivajjeyya.
Sopi t± g±th± vatv± sena½ ±mantetv± “sace imasmi½ µh±ne vasissasi, j±niss±mi te kattabban”ti tajjesi. Seno tato pal±yitv± ańńatra gato.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± “eva½ bhikkhave devadatto pubbepi mayha½ vadh±ya parisakk²”ti vatv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± seno devadatto ahosi, kukkuµo pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
