At²te pana kururaµµhe indapatthanagare dhanañcayakorabyo n±ma r±j± rajja½ k±resi. Tassa sucirato n±ma br±hmaºo purohito atthadhamm±nus±sako ahosi. R±j± d±n±d²ni puññ±ni karonto dhammena rajjamanus±si. So ekadivasa½ dhammay±ga½ n±ma pañha½ abhisaªkharitv± sucirata½ n±ma br±hmaºa½ purohita½ ±sane nis²d±petv± sakk±ra½ katv± pañha½ pucchanto catasso g±th±yo abh±si–
138. “Rajjañca paµipann±sma, ±dhipacca½ suc²rata;
mahatta½ pattumicch±mi, vijetu½ pathavi½ ima½.
139. “Dhammena no adhammena, adhammo me na ruccati;
kiccova dhammo carito, rañño hoti suc²rata.
140. “Idha cev±nindit± yena, pecca yena anindit±;
yasa½ devamanussesu, yena pappomu br±hmaºa.
141. “Yoha½ atthañca dhammañca, kattumicch±mi br±hmaºa;
ta½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca, br±hmaºakkh±hi pucchito”ti.
Tattha rajjanti, ±cariya, maya½ imasmi½ sattayojanike indapatthanagare rajjañca, tiyojanasatike kururaµµhe issarabh±vasaªkh±ta½ ±dhipaccañca. Paµipann±sm±ti adhigat± bhav±ma. Mahattanti id±ni mahantabh±va½. Pattumicch±mi vijetunti ima½ pathavi½ dhammena abhibhavitu½ ajjhottharitu½ icch±mi. Kiccov±ti avasesajanehi rañño carito dhammo kicco karaº²yataro. R±j±nuvattako hi loko, so tasmi½ dhammike sabbopi dhammiko hoti. Tasm± esa dhammo n±ma raññova kiccoti.
Idha cev±nindit±ti yena maya½ idhaloke paraloke ca anindit±. Yena pappom³ti yena maya½ niray±d²su anibbattitv± devesu ca manussesu ca yasa½ issariya½ sobhagga½ p±puºeyy±ma, ta½ no k±raºa½ katheh²ti Yohanti, br±hmaºa, yo aha½ phalavip±kasaªkh±ta½ atthañca tassa atthassa hetubh³ta½ dhammañca kattu½ sam±d±ya vattitu½ upp±detuñca icch±mi. Ta½ tvanti tassa mayha½ tva½ sukheneva nibb±nag±mimagga½ ±ruyha apaµisandhikabh±va½ patthentassa ta½ atthañca dhammañca pucchito akkh±hi, p±kaµa½ katv± katheh²ti br±hmaºa½ dhammay±gapañha½ pucchi.
Aya½ pana pañho gambh²ro buddhavisayo, sabbaññubuddhameva ta½ pucchitu½ yutta½, tasmi½ asati sabbaññutaññ±ºapariyesaka½ bodhisattanti. Sucirato pana attano abodhisattat±ya pañha½ kathetu½ n±sakkhi, asakkonto ca paº¹itam±na½ akatv± attano asamatthabh±va½ kathento g±tham±ha–
142. “N±ññatra vidhur± r±ja, etadakkh±tumarahati;
ya½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca, kattumicchasi khattiy±”ti.
Tassattho– avisayo esa, mah±r±ja, pañho m±dis±na½. Ahañhi nevassa ±di½, na pariyos±na½ pass±mi, andhak±ra½ paviµµho viya homi. B±r±ºasirañño pana purohito vidhuro n±ma br±hmaºo atthi, so eta½ ±cikkheyya, ta½ µhapetv± ya½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca kattumicchasi, eta½ akkh±tu½ na añño arahat²ti.
R±j± tassa vacana½ sutv± “tena hi, br±hmaºa, khippa½ tassa santika½ gacch±h²”ti paºº±k±ra½ datv± ta½ pesetuk±mo hutv± g±tham±ha–
143. “Ehi kho pahito gaccha, vidhurassa upantika½;
nikkhañcima½ suvaººassa, hara½ gaccha suc²rata;
abhih±ra½ ima½ dajj±, atthadhamm±nusiµµhiy±”ti.
Tattha upantikanti santika½. Nikkhanti pañcasuvaººo eko nikkho. Aya½ pana rattasuvaººassa nikkhasahassa½ datv± evam±ha. Ima½ dajj±ti tena imasmi½ dhammay±gapañhe kathite tassa atthadhamm±nusiµµhiy± abhih±rap³ja½ karonto ima½ nikkhasahassa½ dadeyy±s²ti.
Evañca pana vatv± pañhavissajjanassa likhanatth±ya satasahassagghanaka½ suvaººapaµµañca gamanatth±ya y±na½, pariv±ratth±ya balak±ya½, tañca paºº±k±ra½ datv± taªkhaºaññeva uyyojesi. So pana indapatthanagar± nikkhamitv± ujukameva b±r±ºasi½ agantv± yattha yattha paº¹it± vasanti, sabb±ni t±ni µh±n±ni upasaªkamitv± sakalajambud²pe pañhassa vissajjet±ra½ alabhitv± anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patv± ekasmi½ µh±ne niv±sa½ gahetv± katipayehi janehi saddhi½ p±tar±sabhuñjanavel±ya vidhurassa nivesana½ gantv± ±gatabh±va½ ±roc±petv± tena pakkos±pito ta½ sake ghare bhuñjam±na½ addasa. Tamattha½ ±vikaronto satth± sattama½ g±tham±ha–
144. “Sv±dhipp±g± bh±radv±jo, vidhurassa upantika½;
tamaddasa mah±brahm±, asam±na½ sake ghare”ti.
Tattha sv±dhipp±g±ti so bh±radv±jagotto sucirato adhipp±g±, gatoti attho. Mah±brahm±ti mah±br±hmaºo. Asam±nanti bhuñjam±na½.
So pana tassa b±lasah±yako ek±cariyakule uggahitasippo, tasm± tena saddhi½ ekato bhuñjitv± bhattakiccapariyos±ne sukhanisinno “samma kimattha½ ±gatos²”ti puµµho ±gamanak±raºa½ ±cikkhanto aµµhama½ g±tham±ha–
145. “Raññoha½ pahito d³to, korabyassa yasassino;
‘attha½ dhammañca pucchesi’, iccabravi yudhiµµhilo;
ta½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca, vidhurakkh±hi pucchito”ti.
Tattha raññohanti aha½ rañño korabyassa yasassino d³to. Pahitoti tena pesito idh±gami½. Pucches²ti so yudhiµµhilagotto dhanañcayar±j± ma½ dhammay±gapañha½ n±ma pucchi, aha½ kathetu½ asakkonto “tva½ sakkhissas²”ti ñatv± tassa ±rocesi½, so ca paºº±k±ra½ datv± pañhapucchanatth±ya ma½ tava santika½ pesento “vidhurassa santika½ gantv± imassa pañhassa atthañca p±¼idhammañca puccheyy±s²”ti abravi. “Ta½ tva½ id±ni may± pucchito akkh±h²”ti.
Tad± pana so br±hmaºo “mah±janassa citta½ gaºhiss±m²”ti gaªga½ pidahanto viya vinicchaya½ vic±reti. Tassa pañhavissajjane ok±so natthi. So tamattha½ ±cikkhanto navama½ g±tham±ha–
146. “Gaªga½ me pidahissanti, na ta½ sakkomi br±hmaºa;
apidhetu½ mah±sindhu½, ta½ katha½ so bhavissati;
na te sakkomi akkh±tu½, attha½ dhammañca pucchito”ti.
Tassattho– br±hmaºa, mayha½ “mah±janassa n±n±cittagatisaªkh±ta½ gaªga½ pidahissan”ti by±p±ro uppanno, tamaha½ mah±sindhu½ apidhetu½ na sakkomi, tasm± katha½ so ok±so bhavissati, yasm± te aha½ pañha½ vissajjeyya½. Iti cittekaggatañceva ok±sañca alabhanto na te sakkomi akkh±tu½ attha½ dhammañca pucchitoti.
Evañca pana vatv± “putto me paº¹ito may± ñ±ºavantataro, so te by±karissati, tassa santika½ gacch±h²”ti vatv± dasama½ g±tham±ha–
147. “Bhadrak±ro ca me putto, oraso mama atrajo;
ta½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca, gantv± pucchassu br±hmaº±”ti.
Tattha orasoti ure sa½va¹¹ho. Atrajoti attan± j±toti.
Ta½ sutv± sucirato vidhurassa ghar± nikkhamitv± bhadrak±rassa bhuttap±tar±sassa attano parisamajjhe nisinnak±le nivesana½ agam±si. Tamattha½ pak±sento satth± ek±dasama½ g±tham±ha–

tamaddasa mah±brahm±, nisinna½ samhi vesman²”ti.

150. “Ma½sak±ja½ avah±ya, godha½ anupat±maha½;
na te sakkomi akkh±tu½, attha½ dhammañca pucchito.
151. “Sañcayo n±ma me bh±t±, kaniµµho me suc²rata;
ta½ tva½ atthañca dhammañca, gantv± pucchassu br±hmaº±”ti.
Tattha ma½sak±janti yath± n±ma puriso th³lamigama½sa½ k±jen±d±ya gacchanto antar±magge godhapotaka½ disv± ma½sak±ja½ cha¹¹etv± ta½ anubandheyya, evameva attano ghare vasavattini½ bhariya½ cha¹¹etv± parassa rakkhitagopita½ itthi½ anubandhanto hom²ti d²pento evam±h±ti.

katha½ nu daharo jaññ±, attha½ dhammañca pucchito”ti.
Tattha n±yanti aya½ pañhadhammo abbhuto, ima½ kathetu½ samatthena n±ma na bhavitabba½, tasm± ya½ tva½ “kum±ro kathessat²”ti vadati, n±ya½ asm±ka½ ruccati. Te s³ti ettha su-k±ro nip±tamatta½. Pit±ti vidhuro paº¹ito, putt± bhadrak±ro sañcayo c±ti tepi tayo pit±putt± paññ±ya ima½ dhamma½ no vid³, na vij±nanti, añño ko j±nissat²ti attho. Na tanti tumhe tayo jan± pucchit± eta½ akkh±tu½ na sakkotha, daharo sattavassiko kum±ro pucchito katha½ nu jaññ±, kena k±raºena j±nitu½ sakkhissat²ti attho.
