So kira bhikkhu niyy±nike buddhas±sane pabbajitv±pi kodha½ niggahetu½ n±sakkhi, kodhano ahosi up±y±sabahulo, appampi vutto sam±no abhisajji kuppi by±pajji patiµµhayi. Satth± tassa kodhanabh±va½ sutv± pakkos±petv± “sacca½ kira tva½ kodhano”ti pucchitv± “sacca½ bhante”ti vutte “bhikkhu kodho n±ma v±retabbo, evar³po hi idhaloke ca paraloke ca anatthak±rako, tva½ nikkodhassa buddhassa s±sane pabbajitv± kasm± kujjhasi, por±ºakapaº¹it± b±hiras±sane pabbajitv±pi kodha½ na kari½s³”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente aññatarasmi½ k±sinigame eko br±hmaºo a¹¹ho mahaddhano mah±bhogo aputtako ahosi, tassa br±hmaº² putta½ patthesi. Tassa vayappattak±le takkasila½ gantv± sabbasipp±ni uggaºhitv± pacc±gatassa anicchantasseva m±t±pitaro sam±naj±tik± kul± kum±rika½ ±nesu½. S±pi brahmalok± cut±va uttamar³padhar± devaccharapaµibh±g±. Tesa½ aniccham±n±naññeva aññamañña½ ±v±haviv±ha½ kari½su. Ubhinna½ panetesa½ kilesasamud±c±ro n±ma na bh³tapubbo, sa½r±gavasena aññamaññassa olokana½ n±ma n±hosi, supinepi methunadhammo n±ma na diµµhapubbo, eva½ parisuddhas²l± ahesu½.
Ath±parabh±ge mah±satto m±t±pit³su k±lakatesu tesa½ sar²rakicca½ katv± ta½ pakkositv± “bhadde, tva½ ima½ as²tikoµidhana½ gahetv± sukhena j²v±h²”ti ±ha. “Ki½ karissatha tumhe pana, ayyaputt±”ti? “Mayha½ dhanena kicca½ natthi, himavantapadesa½ pavisitv± isipabbajja½ pabbajitv± attano patiµµha½ kariss±m²”ti. “Ki½ pana ayyaputta pabbajj± n±ma puris±naññeva vaµµat²”ti? “Itth²nampi vaµµati, bhadde”ti. “Tena hi aha½ tumhehi chaµµitakhe¼a½ na gaºhiss±mi, mayhampi dhanena kicca½ natthi, ahampi pabbajiss±m²”ti. “S±dhu, bhadde”ti. Te tattha pabbajj±sukheneva dasa sa½vacchare vasitv± loºambilasevanatth±ya janapadac±rika½ carant± anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patv± r±juyy±ne vasi½su.
Athekadivasa½ r±j± uyy±nap±la½ paºº±k±ra½ ±d±ya ±gata½ disv± “uyy±nak²¼ika½ k²¼iss±ma, uyy±na½ sodheh²”ti vatv± tena sodhita½ sajjita½ uyy±na½ mahantena pariv±rena agam±si. Tasmi½ khaºe te ubhopi jan± uyy±nassa ekapasse pabbajj±sukhena v²tin±metv± nisinn± honti. Atha r±j± uyy±ne vicaranto te ubhopi nisinnake disv± paramap±s±dika½ uttamar³padhara½ paribb±jika½ olokento paµibaddhacitto ahosi. So kilesavasena kampanto “pucchiss±mi t±va, aya½ paribb±jik± imassa ki½ hot²”ti bodhisatta½ upasaªkamitv± “pabbajita aya½ te paribb±jik± ki½ hot²”ti pucchi. Mah±r±ja, kiñci na hoti, kevala½ ekapabbajj±ya pabbajit±, apica kho pana me gihik±le p±daparic±rik± ahos²ti. Ta½ sutv± r±j± “aya½ kiretassa kiñci na hoti, apica kho pana gihik±le p±daparic±rik± kirassa ahosi sace pan±ha½ issariyabalena gahetv± gaccheyya½, ki½ nu kho esa karissati, pariggaºhiss±mi t±va nan”ti cintetv± upasaªkamitv± paµhama½ g±tham±ha–

±d±ya bal± gaccheyya, ki½ nu kayir±si br±hmaº±”ti.
Tattha sa½mhitabh±sininti mandahasitabh±sini½. Bal± gaccheyy±ti balakk±rena ±d±ya gaccheyya. Ki½ nu kayir±s²ti tassa tva½ br±hmaºa ki½ kareyy±s²ti?

50. “Uppajje me na mucceyya, na me mucceyya j²vato;
raja½va vipul± vuµµhi, khippameva niv±raye”ti.
Tassattho– mah±r±ja, sace ima½ gahetv± gacchante kismiñci mama abbhantare kopo uppajjeyya, so me anto uppajjitv± na mucceyya, y±v±ha½ j²v±mi, t±va me na mucceyya. N±ssa anto ghanasanniv±sena patiµµh±tu½ dass±mi, atha kho yath± uppanna½ raja½ vipul± meghavuµµhi khippa½ niv±reti, tath± khippameva na½ mett±bh±van±ya niggahetv± v±ress±m²ti.
Eva½ mah±satto s²han±da½ nadi. R±j± panassa katha½ sutv±pi andhab±lat±ya paµibaddha½ attano citta½ niv±retu½ asakkonto aññatara½ amacca½ ±º±pesi “ima½ paribb±jika½ r±janivesana½ neh²”ti. So “s±dh³”ti paµissuºitv± “adhammo loke vattati, ayuttan”ti-±d²ni vatv± paridevam±na½yeva na½ ±d±ya p±y±si. Bodhisatto tass± paridevanasadda½ sutv± ekav±ra½ oloketv± puna na olokesi. Ta½ rodanti½ paridevanti½ r±janivesanameva nayi½su. Sopi b±r±ºasir±j± uyy±ne papañca½ akatv±va s²ghatara½ gantv± ta½ paribb±jika½ pakkos±petv± mahantena yasena nimantesi. S± yasassa aguºa½ pabbaj±ya eva guºa½ kathesi. R±j± kenaci pariy±yena tass± mana½ alabhanto ta½ ekasmi½ gabbhe k±retv± cintesi “aya½ paribb±jik± evar³pa½ yasa½ na icchati, sopi t±paso evar³pa½ m±tug±ma½ gahetv± gacchante kujjhitv± olokitamattampi na ak±si, pabbajit± kho pana bahum±y± honti, kiñci payojetv± anatthampi me kareyya, gacch±mi t±va j±n±mi ki½ karonto nisinno”ti saºµh±tu½ asakkonto uyy±na½ agam±si. Bodhisattopi c²vara½ sibbanto nis²di. R±j± mandapariv±rova padasadda½ akaronto saºika½ upasaªkami. Bodhisatto r±j±na½ anoloketv± c²varameva sibbi. R±j± “aya½ kujjhitv± may± saddhi½ na sallapat²”ti maññam±no “aya½ k³µat±paso ‘kodhassa uppajjitu½ na dass±mi, uppannampi na½ khippameva niggaºhiss±m²’ti paµhamameva gajjitv± id±ni kodhena thaddho hutv± may± saddhi½ na sallapat²”ti saññ±ya tatiya½ g±tham±ha–
51. “Ya½ nu pubbe vikatthittho, balamhiva apassito;
svajja tuºhikato d±ni, saªgh±µi½ sibbamacchas²”ti.
Tattha balamhiva apassitoti balanissito viya hutv±. Tuºhikatoti kiñci avadanto. Sibbamacchas²ti sibbanto acchasi.
Ta½ sutv± mah±satto “aya½ r±j± kodhavasena ma½ n±lapat²ti maññati, kathess±mi d±nissa uppannassa kodhassa vasa½ agatabh±van”ti cintetv± catuttha½ g±tham±ha–
52. “Uppajji me na muccittha, na me muccittha j²vato;
raja½va vipul± vuµµhi, khippameva niv±rayin”ti.
Tassattho– mah±r±ja, uppajji me, na na uppajji, na pana me muccittha, n±ssa pavisitv± hadaye µh±tu½ ad±si½, iti so mama j²vato na muccittheva, raja½ vipul± vuµµhi viya khippameva na½ niv±resinti.
Ta½ sutv± r±j± “ki½ nu kho esa kopameva sandh±ya vadati, ud±hu añña½ kiñci sippa½ sandh±ya kathesi, pucchiss±mi t±va nan”ti cintetv± pucchanto pañcama½ g±tham±ha–

raja½va vipul± vuµµhi, katama½ ta½ niv±ray²”ti.

54. “Yamhi j±te na passati, aj±te s±dhu passati;
so me uppajji no mucci, kodho dummedhagocaro.
55. “Yena j±tena nandanti, amitt± dukkhamesino;
so me uppajji no mucci, kodho dummedhagocaro.
56. “Yasmiñca j±yam±namhi, sadattha½ n±vabujjhati;
so me uppajji no mucci, kodho dummedhagocaro.
57. “Yen±bhibh³to kusala½ jah±ti, parakkare vipulañc±pi attha½;
sa bh²maseno balav± pamadd², kodho mah±r±ja na me amuccatha.
58. “Kaµµhasmi½ mattham±nasmi½, p±vako n±ma j±yati;
tameva kaµµha½ ¹ahati, yasm± so j±yate gini.
59. “Eva½ mandassa posassa, b±lassa avij±nato;
s±rambh± j±yate kodho, sopi teneva ¹ayhati.
60. “Agg²va tiºakaµµhasmi½, kodho yassa pava¹¹hati;
nih²yati tassa yaso, k±¼apakkheva candim±.
61. “Anedho dh³maket³va, kodho yass³pasammati;
±p³rati tassa yaso, sukkapakkheva candim±”ti.– Im± g±th± ±ha.
Tattha na passat²ti attatthampi na passati, pageva parattha½. S±dhu passat²ti attattha½ parattha½ ubhayatthampi s±dhu passati. Dummedhagocaroti nippaññ±na½ ±dh±rabh³to gocaro. Dukkhamesinoti dukkha½ icchant±. Sadatthanti attano atthabh³ta½ atthato ceva dhammato ca vuddhi½. Parakkareti vipulampi attha½ uppanna½ parato k±reti, apanetha, na me imin± atthoti vadati. Sa bh²masenoti so kodho bh²m±ya bhayajananiy± mahatiy± kilesasen±ya samann±gato. Pamadd²ti attano balavabh±vena u¼±repi satte gahetv± attano vase karaºena maddanasamattho. Na me amuccath±ti mama santik± mokkha½ na labhati, hadaye v± pana me kh²ra½ viya muhutta½ dadhibh±vena na patiµµhahitth±tipi attho.
Kaµµhasmi½ mattham±nasminti araº²sahitena matthiyam±ne, “maddam±nasmin”tipi p±µho. Yasm±ti yato kaµµh± j±yati, tameva ¹ahati. Gin²ti aggi. B±lassa avij±natoti b±lassa avij±nantassa. S±rambh± j±yateti aha½ tvanti ±ka¹¹hanavika¹¹hana½ karontassa karaºuttariyalakkhaº± s±rambh± araº²matthan± viya p±vako kodho j±yati. Sopi tenev±ti sopi b±lo teneva kodhena kaµµha½ viya aggin± ¹ayhati. Anedho dh³maket³v±ti anindhano aggi viya. Tass±ti tassa adhiv±sanakhantiy± samann±gatassa puggalassa sukkapakkhe cando viya laddho yaso apar±para½ ±p³rat²ti.

Te ubhopi tattheva vasi½su. Aparabh±ge paribb±jik± k±lamak±si. Bodhisatto tass± k±lakat±ya himavanta½ pavisitv± abhiññ± ca sam±pattiyo ca nibbattetv± catt±ro brahmavih±re bh±vetv± brahmalokapar±yaºo ahosi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne kodhano bhikkhu an±g±miphale patiµµhahi.
Tad± paribb±jik± r±hulam±t± ahosi, r±j± ±nando, paribb±jako pana ahameva ahosinti.
