Ekad± thero n±gasam±lo, ekad± n±gito, ekad± upav±ºo, ekad± sunakkhatto, ekad± cundo, ekad± nando, ekad± s±gato, ekad± meghiyo bhagavanta½ upaµµhahi. Athekadivasa½ bhagav± bhikkh³ ±mantesi “bhikkhave, id±nimhi mahallako, ekacce bhikkh³ ‘imin± maggena gacch±m±’ti vutte aññena gacchanti, ekacce mayha½ pattac²vara½ bh³miya½ nikkhipanti, nibaddhupaµµh±ka½ me eka½ bhikkhu½ j±n±th±”ti. “Bhante, aha½ upaµµhahiss±mi, aha½ upaµµhahiss±m²”ti sirasi añjali½ katv± uµµhite s±riputtatther±dayo “tumh±ka½ patthan± matthaka½ patt±, alan”ti paµikkhipi. Tato bhikkh³ ±nandatthera½ “tva½ ±vuso, upaµµh±kaµµh±na½ y±c±h²”ti ±ha½su. Thero “sace me bhante, bhagav± attan± laddhac²vara½ na dassati, piº¹ap±ta½ na dassati, ekagandhakuµiya½ vasitu½ na dassati, ma½ gahetv± nimantana½ na gamissati, sace pana bhagav± may± gahita½ nimantana½ gamissati, sace aha½ tiroraµµh± tirojanapad± bhagavanta½ daµµhu½ ±gata½ parisa½ ±gatakkhaºeyeva dassetu½ labhiss±mi yad± me kaªkh± uppajjati, tasmi½ khaºeyeva bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitu½ labhiss±mi, sace ya½ bhagav± mama parammukh± dhamma½ katheti, ta½ ±gantv± mayha½ kathessati, ev±ha½ bhagavanta½ upaµµhahiss±m²”ti ime catt±ro paµikkhepe catasso ca ±y±can±ti aµµha vare y±ci, bhagav±pissa ad±si.
So tato paµµh±ya pañcav²sati vass±ni nibaddhupaµµh±ko ahosi. So pañcasu µh±nesu etadagge µhapana½ patv± ±gamasampad±, adhigamasampad±, pubbahetusampad±, attatthaparipucch±sampad±, titthav±sasampad±, yonisomanasik±rasampad±, buddh³panissayasampad±ti im±hi sattahi sampad±hi samann±gato buddhassa santike aµµhavarad±yajja½ labhitv± buddhas±sane paññ±to gaganamajjhe cando viya p±kaµo ahosi. Athekadivasa½ bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “±vuso, tath±gato ±nandatthera½ varad±nena santappes²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbep±ha½ ±nanda½ varena santappesi½, pubbep±ha½ ya½ ya½ esa y±ci, ta½ ta½ ad±si½yev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.

Kum±ro “br±hmaºa, na d±n±ha½ tava bhattam³la½ d±tu½ sakkomi, aha½ kho pana k±sikarañño putto juºhakum±ro n±ma, mayi rajje patiµµhite ±gantv± ma½ dhana½ y±ceyy±s²”ti vatv± niµµhitasippo ±cariya½ vanditv± b±r±ºasi½ gantv± pitu sippa½ dassesi. Pit± “j²vantena me putto diµµho, r±jabh³tampi na½ passiss±m²”ti rajje abhisiñci. So juºhar±j± n±ma hutv± dhammena rajja½ k±resi. Br±hmaºo ta½ pavatti½ sutv± “id±ni mama bhattam³la½ ±hariss±m²”ti b±r±ºasi½ gantv± r±j±na½ alaªkatanagara½ padakkhiºa½ karontameva disv± ekasmi½ unnatappadese µhito hattha½ pas±retv± jay±pesi. Tattha juºhamh²ti mah±r±ja, tayi juºhamhi aha½ ekena atthena idh±nuppatto, na nikk±raº± idh±gatomh²ti d²peti. Addhiketi addh±na½ ±gate. Gantabbanti ta½ addhika½ addh±nam±gata½ y±cam±na½ br±hmaºa½ anoloketv±va gantabbanti paº¹it± na ±hu na kathent²ti.

yakkh± nu te assav± santi keci, attha½ v± me abhij±n±si katta½.
17. “Na me tapo atthi na c±pi mant±, yakkh±pi me assav± natthi keci;
atthampi te n±bhij±n±mi katta½, pubbe ca kho saªgatimattam±si.
18. “Paµhama½ ida½ dassana½ j±nato me, na t±bhij±n±mi ito puratth±;
akkh±hi me pucchito etamattha½, kad± kuhi½ v± ahu saªgamo no.
19. “Gandh±rar±jassa puramhi ramme, avasimhase takkas²l±ya½ deva;
tatthandhak±ramhi tim²sik±ya½, a½sena a½sa½ samaghaµµayimha.
20. “Te tattha µhatv±na ubho janinda, s±r±ºiya½ v²tis±rayimha tattha;
s±yeva no saªgatimattam±si, tato na pacch± na pure ahosi.
21. “Yad± kad±ci manujesu brahme, sam±gamo sappurisena hoti;
na paº¹it± saªgatisanthav±ni, pubbe kata½ v±pi vin±sayanti.
22. “B±l±va kho saªgatisanthav±ni, pubbe kata½ v±pi vin±sayanti;
bahumpi b±lesu kata½ vinassati, tath± hi b±l± akataññur³p±.
23. “Dh²r± ca kho saªgatisanthav±ni, pubbe kata½ v±pi na n±sayanti;
appampi dh²resu kata½ na nassati, tath± hi dh²r± sukataññur³p±.
24. “Dad±mi te g±mavar±ni pañca, d±s²sata½ satta gava½sat±ni;

Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbep±ha½ ±nanda½ varena santappesi½ yev±”ti vatv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± br±hmaºo ±nando ahosi, r±j± pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
