At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto duggatagahapatikule nibbatti, sutan³tissa n±ma½ aka½su. So vayappatto bhati½ katv± m±t±pitaro posetv± pitari k±lakate m±tara½ poseti. Tasmi½ pana k±le b±r±ºasir±j± migavittako ahosi. So ekadivasa½ mahantena pariv±rena yojanadviyojanamatta½ arañña½ pavisitv± “yassa µhitaµµh±nena migo pal±yati, so ima½ n±ma jito”ti sabbesa½ ±roc±pesi. Amacc± rañño dhuvamaggaµµh±ne koµµhaka½ ch±detv± ada½su. Manussehi mig±na½ vasanaµµh±n±ni pariv±retv± unn±dentehi uµµh±pitesu migesu eko eºimigo rañño µhitaµµh±na½ paµipajji. R±j± “ta½ vijjhiss±m²”ti sara½ khipi Uggahitam±yo migo sara½ mah±ph±suk±bhimukha½ ±gacchanta½ ñatv± parivattitv± sarena viddho viya hutv± pati. R±j± “migo me viddho”ti gahaºatth±ya dh±vi. Migo uµµh±ya v±tavegena pal±yi, amacc±dayo r±j±na½ avahasi½su. So miga½ anubandhitv± kilantak±le khaggena dvidh± chinditv± ekasmi½ daº¹ake laggitv± k±ja½ vahanto viya ±gacchanto “thoka½ vissamiss±m²”ti maggasam²pe µhita½ vaµarukkha½ upagantv± nipajjitv± nidda½ okkami.
Tasmi½ pana vaµarukkhe nibbatto maghadevo n±ma yakkho tattha paviµµhe vessavaºassa santik± kh±ditu½ labhi. So r±j±na½ uµµh±ya gacchanta½ “tiµµha bhakkhosi me”ti hatthe gaºhi. “Tva½ kon±mos²”ti? “Aha½ idha nibbattayakkho, ima½ µh±na½ paviµµhake kh±ditu½ labh±m²”ti. R±j± sati½ upaµµhapetv± “ki½ ajjeva ma½ kh±dissasi, ud±hu nibaddha½ kh±dissas²”ti pucchi. “Labhanto nibaddha½ kh±diss±m²”ti. R±j± “ima½ ajja miga½ kh±ditv± ma½ vissajjehi, aha½ te sve paµµh±ya ek±ya bhattap±tiy± saddhi½ eka½ manussa½ pesess±m²”ti. “Tena hi appamatto hohi, apesitadivase taññeva kh±diss±m²”ti. “Aha½ b±r±ºasir±j±, mayha½ avijjam±na½ n±ma natth²”ti. Yakkho paµiñña½ gahetv± ta½ vissajjesi. So nagara½ pavisitv± tamattha½ ekassa atthacarakassa amaccassa kathetv± “id±ni ki½ k±tabban”ti pucchi. “Divasaparicchedo kato, dev±”ti? “Na kato”ti. “Ayutta½ vo kata½, eva½ santepi m± cintayittha, bah³ bandhan±g±re manuss±”ti. “Tena hi tva½ eta½ kamma½ kara, mayha½ j²vita½ deh²”ti.
Amacco “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± devasika½ bandhan±g±rato manussa½ n²haritv± bhattap±ti½ gahetv± kañci aj±n±petv±va yakkhassa pesesi. Yakkho bhatta½ bhuñjitv± manussa½ kh±dati. Aparabh±ge bandhan±g±r±ni nimmanuss±ni j±t±ni. R±j± bhattah±raka½ alabhanto maraºabhayena kampi. Atha na½ amacco ass±setv± “deva, j²vit±s±to dhan±s±va balavatar±, hatthikkhandhe sahassabhaº¹ika½ µhapetv± ‘ko ima½ dhana½ gahetv± yakkhassa bhatta½ ±d±ya gamissat²’ti bheri½ car±pem±”ti vatv± tath± k±resi. Atha ta½ sutv± bodhisatto cintesi “aha½ bhatiy± m±saka¹¹ham±saka½ saªgharitv± kicchena m±tara½ posemi, ima½ dhana½ gahetv± m±tu datv± yakkhassa santika½ gamiss±mi, sace yakkha½ dametu½ sakkhiss±mi, icceta½ kusala½, no ce sakkhiss±mi, m±t± me sukha½ j²vissat²”ti. So tamattha½ m±tu ±rocetv± “ala½ t±ta, na mama attho dhanen±”ti dve v±re paµikkhipitv± tatiyav±re ta½ an±pucchitv±va “±haratha, ayya, sahassa½, aha½ bhatta½ hariss±m²”ti sahassa½ gahetv± m±tu datv± “amma m± cintayi aha½ yakkha½ dametv± mah±janassa sotthi½ kariss±mi, ajjeva tava assukilinnamukha½ h±s±pentova ±gacchiss±m²”ti m±tara½ vanditv± r±japurisehi saddhi½ rañño santika½ gantv± vanditv± aµµh±si.
Tato raññ± “t±ta, tva½ bhatta½ harissas²”ti vutte “±ma, dev±”ti ±ha. “Ki½ te laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti? “Tumh±ka½ suvaººap±duk±, dev±”ti. “Ki½k±raº±”ti? “Deva, so yakkho attano rukkham³le bh³miya½ µhitake kh±ditu½ labhati, aha½ etassa santakabh³miya½ aµµhatv± p±duk±su µhass±m²”ti. “Añña½ ki½ laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti? “Tumh±ka½ chatta½, dev±”ti. “Ida½ kimatth±y±”ti? “Deva, yakkho attano rukkhacch±y±ya µhitake kh±ditu½ labhati, aha½ tassa rukkhacch±y±ya aµµhatv± chattacch±y±ya µhass±m²”ti. “Añña½ ki½ laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti. “Tumh±ka½ khagga½, dev±”ti. “Imin± ko attho”ti? “Deva, amanuss±pi ±vudhahatth±na½ bh±yantiyev±”ti. “Añña½ ki½ laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti? “Suvaººap±ti½ p³retv± tumh±ka½ bhuñjanakabhatta½ detha, dev±”ti. “Ki½k±raº±, t±t±”ti? “Deva, m±disassa n±ma paº¹itassa purisassa mattikap±tiy± l³khabhojana½ haritu½ ananucchavikan”ti. “S±dhu, t±t±”ti r±j± sabba½ d±petv± tassa veyy±vaccakare paµip±desi.
Bodhisatto “mah±r±ja, m± bh±yittha, ajj±ha½ yakkha½ dametv± tumh±ka½ sotthi½ katv± ±gamiss±m²”ti r±j±na½ vanditv± upakaraº±ni g±h±petv± tattha gantv± manusse rukkhass±vid³re µhapetv± suvaººap±duka½ ±ruyha khagga½ sannayhitv± setacchatta½ matthake katv± kañcanap±tiy± bhatta½ gahetv± yakkhassa santika½ p±y±si. Yakkho magga½ olokento ta½ disv± “aya½ puriso na aññesu divasesu ±gamananiy±mena eti, ki½ nu kho k±raºan”ti cintesi. Bodhisattopi rukkhasam²pa½ gantv± asituº¹ena bhattap±ti½ antoch±y±ya karitv± ch±y±ya pariyante µhito paµhama½ g±tham±ha.
15. “R±j± te bhatta½ p±hesi, suci½ ma½s³pasecana½;
maghadevasmi½ adhivatthe, ehi nikkhamma bhuñjas³”ti.
Tattha p±hes²ti pahiºi. Maghadevasmi½ adhivattheti maghadevoti vaµarukkho vuccati, tasmi½ adhivattheti devata½ ±lapati.

16. “Ehi m±ºava orena, bhikkham±d±ya s³pita½;
tvañca m±ºava bhikkh± ca, ubho bhakkh± bhavissath±”ti.
Tattha bhikkhanti mama nibaddhabhikkha½. S³pitanti s³pasampanna½.

17. “Appakena tuva½ yakkha, thullamattha½ jahissasi;
bhikkha½ te n±harissanti, jan± maraºasaññino.
18. “Laddh±ya yakkh± tava niccabhikkha½, suci½ paº²ta½ rasas± upeta½;
bhikkhañca te ±hariyo naro idha, sudullabho hehiti bhakkhite may²”ti.
Tattha thullamatthanti appakena k±raºena mahanta½ attha½ jahissas²ti dasseti. N±harissant²ti ito paµµh±ya maraºasaññino hutv± na ±harissanti, atha tva½ mil±tas±kho viya rukkho nir±h±ro dubbalo bhavissas²ti. Laddh±yanti laddha-aya½ laddh±gamana½. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– samma yakkha, ya½ aha½ ajja ±hari½, ida½ tava niccabhikkha½ suci½ paº²ta½ uttama½ rasena upeta½ laddh±gamana½ devasika½ te ±gacchissati. ¾hariyoti ±haraºako. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– “sace tva½ ima½ bhikkha½ gahetv± ±gata½ ma½ bhakkhasi, atheva½ mayi bhakkhite bhikkhañca te ±haraºako añño naro idha sudullabho bhavissati. Ki½k±raº±? M±diso hi b±r±ºasiya½ añño paº¹itamanusso n±ma natthi, mayi pana kh±dite sutanupi n±ma yakkhena kh±dito, aññassa kassa so lajjissat²”ti bhatt±haraºaka½ na labhissasi, atha te ito paµµh±ya bhojana½ dullabha½ bhavissati, amh±kampi r±j±na½ gaºhitu½ na labhissasi. Kasm±? Rukkhato bahibh±vena. Sace panida½ bhatta½ bhuñjitv± ma½ pahiºissasi, aha½ te rañño kathetv± nibaddha½ bhatta½ pesess±mi, att±nampi ca te kh±ditu½ na dass±mi, ahampi tava santike µh±ne na µhass±mi, p±duk±su µhass±mi, rukkhacch±y±yampi te na µhass±mi, attano chattacch±y±yameva µhass±mi, sace pana may± saddhi½ virujjhissasi, khaggena ta½ dvidh± bhindiss±mi ahañhi ajja etadatthameva sajjo hutv± ±gatoti. Eva½ kira na½ mah±satto tajjesi.

may± tva½ samanuññ±to, sotthi½ pass±hi m±tara½.
20. “Khagga½ chattañca p±tiñca, gaccham±d±ya m±ºava;
sotthi½ passatu te m±t±, tvañca pass±hi m±taran”ti.
Tattha sutanoti bodhisatta½ ±lapati. Yath± bh±sas²ti yath± tva½ bh±sasi, tath± yo esa tay± bh±sito attho, eso mamevattho, mayhameva va¹¹h²ti.
Yakkhassa katha½ sutv± bodhisatto “mama kamma½ nipphanna½, damito me yakkho, bahuñca dhana½ laddha½, rañño ca vacana½ katan”ti tuµµhacitto yakkhassa anumodana½ karonto os±nag±tham±ha–
21. “Eva½ yakkha sukh² hohi, saha sabbehi ñ±tibhi;
dhanañca me adhigata½, rañño ca vacana½ katan”ti.–

Vatv± ca pana yakkha½ ±mantetv± “samma, tva½ pubbe akusalakamma½ katv± kakkha¼o pharuso paresa½ lohitama½sabhakkho yakkho hutv± nibbatto, ito paµµh±ya p±º±tip±t±d²ni m± kar²”ti s²le ca ±nisa½sa½, duss²lye ca ±d²nava½ kathetv± yakkha½ pañcasu s²lesu patiµµh±petv± “ki½ te araññav±sena, ehi nagaradv±re ta½ nis²d±petv± aggabhattal±bhi½ karom²”ti yakkhena saddhi½ nikkhamitv± khagg±d²ni yakkha½ g±h±petv± b±r±ºasi½ agam±si. “Sutanu m±ºavo yakkha½ gahetv± et²”ti rañño ±rocesu½. R±j± amaccaparivuto bodhisattassa paccuggamana½ katv± yakkha½ nagaradv±re nis²d±petv± aggabhattal±bhina½ katv± nagara½ pavisitv± bheri½ car±petv± n±gare sannip±t±petv± bodhisattassa guºa½ kathetv± sen±patiµµh±na½ ad±si. Ayañca bodhisattassa ov±de µhatv± d±n±d²ni puññ±ni katv± saggapar±yaºo ahosi.

Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne m±tuposakabhikkhu sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi. Tad± yakkho aªgulim±lo ahosi, r±j± ±nando, m±ºavo pana ahameva ahosinti.
