At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto s²ho hutv± s²hiy± saddhi½ sa½vasanto dve potake labhi– puttañca dh²tarañca. Puttassa manojoti n±ma½ ahosi, so vayappatto eka½ s²hapotika½ gaºhi. Iti te pañca jan± ahesu½. Manojo vanamahi½s±dayo vadhitv± ma½sa½ ±haritv± m±t±pitaro ca bhaginiñca paj±patiñca poseti. So ekadivasa½ gocarabh³miya½ giriya½ n±ma siªg±la½ pal±yitu½ appahonta½ urena nipanna½ disv± “ki½, samm±”ti pucchitv± “upaµµh±tuk±momhi, s±m²”ti vutte “s±dhu, upaµµhahass³”ti ta½ gahetv± attano vasanaguha½ ±nesi. Bodhisatto ta½ disv± “t±ta manoja, siªg±l± n±ma duss²l± p±padhamm± akicce niyojenti, m± eta½ attano santike kar²”ti v±retu½ n±sakkhi.
Athekadivasa½ siªg±lo assama½sa½ kh±dituk±mo manoja½ ±ha– “s±mi, amhehi µhapetv± assama½sa½ añña½ akh±ditapubba½ n±ma natthi, assa½ gaºhiss±m±”ti. “Kaha½ pana, samma, ass± hont²”ti? “B±r±ºasiya½ nad²t²re”ti. So tassa vacana½ gahetv± tena saddhi½ ass±na½ nadiy± nh±navel±ya½ gantv± eka½ assa½ gahetv± piµµhiya½ ±ropetv± vegena attano guh±dv±rameva ±gato. S²ho p±k±ramatthakena gantv± antos±l±topi gaºhiyeva.
R±j± eka½ akkhaºavedhi½ dhanuggaha½ pakkos±petv± “sakkhissasi t±ta, s²ha½ vijjhitun”ti ±ha. So “sakkom²”ti vatv± p±k±ra½ niss±ya s²hassa ±gamanamagge aµµaka½ k±retv± aµµh±si. S²ho ±gantv± bahisus±ne siªg±la½ µhapetv± assagahaºatth±ya nagara½ pakkhandi. haññate n³na manojo, migar±j± sakh± mama.
9. “Handa d±ni vanant±ni, pakkam±mi yath±sukha½;
net±dis± sakh± honti, labbh± me j²vato sakh±”ti.
Tattha yath±ti yen±k±reneva c±po ninnamati. Haññate n³n±ti n³na haññati. Net±dis±ti evar³p± matak± sah±y± n±ma na honti. Labbh± meti j²vato mama sah±yo n±ma sakk± laddhu½.
S²hopi ekavegena gantv± assa½ guh±dv±re p±tetv± sayampi maritv± pati. Athassa ñ±tak± nikkhamitv± ta½ lohitamakkhita½ pah±ramukhehi paggharitalohita½ p±pajanasevit±ya j²vitakkhaya½ patta½ addasa½su, disv± cassa m±t± pit± bhagin² paj±pat²ti paµip±µiy± catasso g±th± bh±si½su–
10. “Na p±pajanasa½sev², accanta½ sukhamedhati;
manoja½ passa sem±na½, giriyass±nus±san².
11. “Na p±pasampavaªkena, m±t± puttena nandati;
manoja½ passa sem±na½, acchanna½ samhi lohite.
12. “Evam±pajjate poso, p±piyo ca nigacchati;
yo ve hit±na½ vacana½, na karoti atthadassina½.
13. “Evañca so hoti tato ca p±piyo, yo uttamo adhamajan³pasev²;
passuttama½ adhamajan³pasevita½, mig±dhipa½ saravaraveganiddhutan”ti.
Tattha accanta½ sukhamedhat²ti na cira½ sukha½ labhati. Giriyass±nus±san²ti aya½ evar³p± giriyass±nus±san²ti garahanto ±ha. P±pasampavaªken±ti p±pesu sampavaªkena p±pasah±yena. Acchannanti nimugga½. P±piyo ca nigacchat²ti p±pañca vindati. Hit±nanti atthak±m±na½. Atthadassinanti an±gata-attha½ passant±na½. P±piyoti p±pataro. Adhamajan³pasev²ti adhamajana½ upasev². Uttamanti sar²rabalena jeµµhaka½.

14. “Nih²yati puriso nih²nasev², na ca h±yetha kad±ci tulyasev²;
seµµhamupagama½ udeti khippa½, tasm±ttan± uttaritara½ bhajeth±”ti.
Tattha nih²yat²ti bhikkhave, nih²nasev² n±ma manojo s²ho viya nih²yati parih±yati vin±sa½ p±puº±ti. Tulyasev²ti s²l±d²hi attan± sadisa½ sevam±no na h±yati, va¹¹hiyeva panassa hoti. Seµµhamupagamanti s²l±d²hi uttaritara½yeva upagacchanto. Udeti khippanti s²ghameva s²l±d²hi guºehi udeti, vuddhi½ upagacchat²ti.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne vipakkhasevako sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi.
Tad± siªg±lo devadatto ahosi, manojo vipakkhasevako, bhagin² uppalavaºº±, bhariy± khem± bhikkhun², m±t± r±hulam±t±, pit± s²har±j± pana ahameva ahosinti.
