Tañhi bhikkhu½ satth± “sacca½ kira tva½ bhikkhu ukkaºµhitos²”ti pucchitv± “±ma, bhante”ti vutte “kena ukkaºµh±pitos²”ti vatv± “pur±ºadutiyik±y±”ti vutte “bhikkhu aya½ te itth² anatthak±rik±, pubbepi tva½ ima½ niss±ya aggi½ pavisitv± maranto paº¹ite niss±ya j²vita½ labh²”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ senake n±ma raññe rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto sakkatta½ k±resi. Tad± senakassa rañño ekena n±gar±jena saddhi½ mittabh±vo hoti. So kira n±gar±j± n±gabhavan± nikkhamitv± thale gocara½ gaºhanto carati. Atha na½ g±mad±rak± disv± “sappo ayan”ti le¹¹udaº¹±d²hi pahari½su. Atha r±j± uyy±na½ k²¼itu½ gacchanto disv± “ki½ ete d±rak± karont²”ti pucchitv± “eka½ sappa½ paharant²”ti sutv± “paharitu½ m± detha, pal±petha ne”ti pal±pesi. N±gar±j± j²vita½ labhitv± n±gabhavana½ gantv± bah³ni ratan±ni ±d±ya a¹¹harattasamaye rañño sayanaghara½ pavisitv± t±ni ratan±ni datv± “mah±r±ja, may± tumhe niss±ya j²vita½ laddhan”ti raññ± saddhi½ mittabh±va½ katv± punappuna½ gantv± r±j±na½ passati. So attano n±gam±ºavik±su eka½ k±mesu atitta½ n±gam±ºavika½ rakkhaºatth±ya rañño santike µhapetv± “yad± eta½ na passasi, tad± ima½ manta½ parivatteyy±s²”ti tassa eka½ manta½ ad±si.
So ekadivasa½ uyy±na½ gantv± n±gam±ºavik±ya saddhi½ pokkharaºiya½ udakak²¼a½ k²¼i. N±gam±ºavik± eka½ udakasappa½ disv± attabh±va½ vijahitv± tena saddhi½ asaddhamma½ paµisevi. R±j± ta½ apassanto “kaha½ nu kho gat±”ti manta½ parivattetv± an±c±ra½ karonti½ disv± ve¼upesik±ya pahari. S± kujjhitv± tato n±gabhavana½ gantv± “kasm± ±gat±s²”ti puµµh± “tumh±ka½ sah±yo ma½ attano vacana½ agaºhanti½ piµµhiya½ pahar²”ti pah±ra½ dassesi. N±gar±j± tathato aj±nitv±va catt±ro n±gam±ºavake ±mantetv± “gacchatha, senakassa sayanaghara½ pavisitv± n±sav±tena ta½ bhusa½ viya viddha½seth±”ti pesesi. Te gantv± rañño sirisayane nipannak±le gabbha½ pavisi½su. Tesa½ pavisanavel±yameva r±j± devi½ ±ha– “j±n±si nu kho bhadde, n±gam±ºavik±ya gataµµh±nan”ti? “Na j±n±mi, dev±”ti. “Ajja s± amh±ka½ pokkharaºiya½ k²¼anak±le attabh±va½ vijahitv± ekena udakasappena saddhi½ an±c±ra½ ak±si, atha na½ aha½ ‘eva½ m± kar²’ti sikkh±panatth±ya ve¼upesik±ya pahari½, s± ‘n±gabhavana½ gantv± sah±yassa me añña½ kiñci kathetv± metti½ bhindeyy±’ti me bhaya½ uppajjat²”ti. Ta½ sutv± n±gam±ºavak± tatova nivattitv± n±gabhavana½ gantv± n±gar±jassa tamattha½ ±rocesu½. So sa½vegappatto hutv± taªkhaºaññeva rañño sayanaghara½ ±gantv± tamattha½ ±cikkhitv± kham±petv± “ida½ me daº¹akamman”ti sabbarutaj±nana½ n±ma manta½ datv± “aya½, mah±r±ja, anaggho manto, sace ima½ manta½ aññassa dadeyy±si, datv±va aggi½ pavisitv± mareyy±s²”ti ±ha. R±j± “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi. So tato paµµh±ya kipillik±nampi sadda½ j±n±ti.
Tassekadivasa½ mah±tale nis²ditv± madhuph±ºitehi kh±dan²ya½ kh±dantassa eka½ madhubindu ca ph±ºitabindu ca p³vakhaº¹añca bh³miya½ pati. Ek± kipillik± ta½ disv± “rañño mah±tale madhuc±µi bhinn±, ph±ºitasakaµa½ p³vasakaµa½ nikkujjita½, madhuph±ºitañca p³vañca kh±dath±”ti viravant² vicarati. Atha r±j± tass± rava½ sutv± hasi. Rañño sam²pe µhit± dev² “ki½ nu kho disv± r±j± has²”ti cintesi. Tasmi½ kh±dan²ya½ kh±ditv± nhatv± pallaªke nisinne eka½ makkhika½ s±miko “ehi bhadde, kilesaratiy± ramiss±m±”ti ±ha. Atha na½ s± “adhiv±sehi t±va s±mi, id±ni rañño gandhe ±harissanti, tassa vilimpantassa p±dam³le gandhacuººa½ patissati, aha½ tattha vaµµetv± sugandh± bhaviss±mi, tato rañño piµµhiya½ nipajjitv± ramiss±m±”ti ±ha. R±j± tampi sadda½ sutv± hasi. Dev²pi “ki½ nu kho disv± has²”ti puna cintesi. Puna rañño s±yam±sa½ bhuñjantassa eka½ bhattasittha½ bh³miya½ pati. Kipillik± “r±jakule bhattasakaµa½ bhagga½, bhatta½ bhuñjath±”ti viravi. Ta½ sutv± r±j± punapi hasi. Dev² suvaººakaµacchu½ gahetv± r±j±na½ parivisant² “ma½ nu kho disv± r±j± hasat²”ti vitakkesi.
S± raññ± saddhi½ sayana½ ±ruyha nipajjanak±le “ki½k±raº± deva, has²”ti pucchi. So “ki½ te mama hasitak±raºen±”ti vatv± punappuna½ nibaddho kathesi. Atha na½ s± “tumh±ka½ j±nanamanta½ mayha½ deth±”ti vatv± “na sakk± d±tun”ti paµikkhitt±pi punappuna½ nibandhi R±j± “sac±ha½ ima½ manta½ tuyha½ dass±mi, mariss±m²”ti ±ha. “Marantopi mayha½ dehi, dev±”ti. passa b±lo rahokamma½, ±vikubba½ na bujjhat²”ti.
Tattha vastanti aja½. Paº¹it±ti ñ±ºasampann± ta½ b±loti vadanti, sacca½ kira vadanti. Pass±ti ±lapana½, passath±hi attho. Na bujjhat²ti eva½ k±tu½ ayuttanti na j±n±ti.

rajjuy± hi parikkhitto, vaªkoµµho ohitomukho.

so ca b±lataro samma, ya½ tva½ vahati senakan”ti.
Tattha tva½ khopi samm±ti samma sindhava may±pi kho tva½ b±lataro. Kharaputt±ti so kira gadrabhassa j±tako, tena ta½ evam±ha. Vij±nah²ti ahameva b±loti eva½ j±n±hi. Parikkhittoti yugena saddhi½ g²v±ya parikkhitto. Vaªkoµµhoti vaªka-oµµho. Ohitomukhoti mukhabandhanena pihitamukho. Yo mutto na pal±yas²ti yo tva½ rathato mutto sam±no muttak±le pal±yitv± arañña½ na pavisasi, ta½ te apal±yana½ aparampi b±lya½ so ca b±lataroti ya½ tva½ senaka½ vahasi, so senako tay±pi b±lataro.
R±j± tesa½ ubhinnampi katha½ j±n±ti, tasm± ta½ suºanto saºika½ ratha½ pesesi. Sindhavopi tassa katha½ sutv± puna catuttha½ g±tham±ha–
80. “Ya½ nu samma aha½ b±lo, ajar±ja vij±nahi;
atha kena senako b±lo, ta½ me akkh±hi pucchito”ti.
Tattha yanti karaºatthe paccattavacana½. ti anussavatthe nip±to. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– samma ajar±ja, yena t±va tiracch±nagatattena k±raºena aha½ b±lo, ta½ tva½ k±raºa½ j±n±hi, sakk± eta½ tay± ñ±tu½, ahañhi tiracch±nagatatt±va b±lo, tasm± ma½ kharaputt±ti-±d²ni vadanto suµµhu vadasi, aya½ pana senako r±j± kena k±raºena b±lo, ta½ me k±raºa½ pucchito akkh±h²ti.

tena jahissatatt±na½, s± cevassa na hessat²”ti.
Tattha uttamatthanti sabbarutaj±nanamanta½. Ten±ti tass± mantappad±nasaªkh±tena k±raºena ta½ datv± aggi½ pavisanto att±nañca jahissati, s± cassa bhariy± na bhavissati, tasm± esa tay±pi b±lataro, yo laddha½ yasa½ rakkhitu½ na sakkot²ti.
R±j± tassa vacana½ sutv± “ajar±ja, amh±ka½ sotthi½ karontopi tvaññeva karissasi, kathehi t±va no kattabbayuttakan”ti ±ha. Atha na½ ajar±j± “mah±r±ja, imesa½ satt±na½ attan± añño piyataro n±ma natthi, eka½ piyabhaº¹a½ niss±ya att±na½ n±setu½ laddhayasa½ pah±tu½ na vaµµat²”ti vatv± chaµµha½ g±tham±ha–
82. “Na ve piyammeti janinda t±diso, atta½ nira½katv± piy±ni sevati;
att±va seyyo param± ca seyyo, labbh± piy± ocitatthena pacch±”ti.
Tattha piyammeti piya½ me, ayameva v± p±µho. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– janinda, t±diso tumh±diso yasamahatte µhito puggalo eka½ piyabhaº¹a½ niss±ya “ida½ piya½ me”ti atta½ nira½katv± att±na½ cha¹¹etv± t±ni piy±ni na sevateva. Ki½k±raº±? Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne ukkaºµhitabhikkhu sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi. Tad± r±j± ukkaºµhitabhikkhu ahosi, dev² pur±ºadutiyik±, asso s±riputto, sakko pana ahameva ahosinti.
