Dhamma½ caratha ñ±tayoti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto eka½ kuhakabhikkhu½ ±rabbha kathesi. Tad± hi satth± “na, bhikkhave, aya½ id±neva kuhako, pubbepi kuhakoyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto sakuºayoniya½ nibbattitv± vayappatto sakuºasaªghaparivuto samuddamajjhe d²pake vasi. Athekacce k±siraµµhav±sino v±ºij± dis±k±ka½ gahetv± n±v±ya samudda½ pakkhandi½su, samuddamajjhe n±v± bhijji. So dis±k±ko ta½ d²paka½ gantv± cintesi “aya½ mah±sakuºasaªgho, may± kuhakakamma½ katv± etesa½ aº¹ak±ni ceva ch±pake ca vara½ vara½ kh±ditu½ vaµµat²”ti. So otaritv± sakuºasaªghassa majjhe mukha½ vivaritv± ekena p±dena pathaviya½ aµµh±si. “Ko n±ma tva½, s±m²”ti sakuºehi puµµho “aha½ dhammiko n±m±”ti ±ha. “Kasm± pana ekena p±dena µhitos²”ti? “May± dutiye p±de nikkhitte pathav² dh±retu½ na sakkot²”ti. “Atha kasm± mukha½ vivaritv± tiµµhas²”ti? “Aha½ añña½ ±h±ra½ na kh±d±mi, v±tameva kh±d±m²”ti. Evañca pana vatv± te sakuºe ±mantetv± “ov±da½ vo dass±mi, ta½ suº±th±”ti tesa½ ov±davasena paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
65. “Dhamma½ caratha ñ±tayo, dhamma½ caratha bhadda½ vo;
dhammac±r² sukha½ seti, asmi½ loke paramhi c±”ti.
Tattha dhamma½ carath±ti k±yasucarit±dibheda½ dhamma½ karotha. ѱtayoti te ±lapati. Dhamma½ caratha bhadda½ voti ekav±ra½ caritv± m± osakkatha, punappuna½ caratha, eva½ bhadda½ vo bhavissati. Sukha½ set²ti desan±s²sameta½, dhammac±r² pana sukha½ tiµµhati gacchati nis²dati seti, sabbiriy±pathesu sukhito hot²ti d²peti.
Sakuº± “aya½ k±ko kohaññena aº¹ak±ni kh±ditu½ eva½ vadat²”ti aj±nitv± ta½ duss²la½ vaººent± dutiya½ g±tham±ha½su–
66. “Bhaddako vataya½ pakkh², dijo paramadhammiko;
ekap±dena tiµµhanto, dhammamev±nus±sat²”ti.
Tattha dhammamev±ti sabh±vameva. Anus±sat²ti kathesi.
Sakuº± tassa duss²lassa saddahitv± “tva½ kira s±mi añña½ gocara½ na gaºhasi, v±tameva bhakkhasi, tena hi amh±ka½ aº¹ak±ni ca ch±pake ca olokeyy±s²”ti vatv± gocar±ya gacchanti. So p±po tesa½ gatak±le aº¹ak±ni ca ch±pake ca kucchip³ra½ kh±ditv± tesa½ ±gamanak±le upasant³pasanto hutv± mukha½ vivaritv± ekena p±dena tiµµhati. Sakuº± ±gantv± puttake apassant± “ko nu kho kh±dat²”ti mah±saddena viravanti, “aya½ k±ko dhammiko”ti tasmi½ ±saªk±mattampi na karonti. Athekadivasa½ mah±satto cintesi “idha pubbe koci paripantho natthi, imassa ±gatak±lato paµµh±ya j±to, ima½ pariggaºhitu½ vaµµat²”ti. So sakuºehi saddhi½ gocar±ya gacchanto viya hutv± nivattitv± paµicchannaµµh±ne aµµh±si. K±kopi “gat± sakuº±”ti nir±saªko hutv± uµµh±ya gantv± aº¹ak±ni ca ch±pake ca kh±ditv± pun±gantv± mukha½ vivaritv± ekena p±dena aµµh±si.
Sakuºar±j± sakuºesu ±gatesu sabbe sannip±t±petv± “aha½ vo ajja puttak±na½ paripantha½ pariggaºhanto ima½ p±pak±ka½ kh±danta½ addasa½, etha na½ gaºh±m±”ti sakuºasaªgha½ ±mantetv± pariv±retv± “sace pal±yati, gaºheyy±tha nan”ti vatv± sesag±th± abh±si–
67. “N±ssa s²la½ vij±n±tha, anaññ±ya pasa½satha;
bhutv± aº¹añca potañca, dhammo dhammoti bh±sati.
68. “Añña½ bhaºati v±c±ya, añña½ k±yena kubbati;
v±c±ya no ca k±yena, na ta½ dhamma½ adhiµµhito.
69. “V±c±ya sakhilo manoviduggo, channo k³pasayova kaºhasappo;
dhammadhajo g±manigam±su s±dhu, dujj±no purisena b±lisena.
70. “Ima½ tuº¹ehi pakkhehi, p±d± cima½ viheµhatha;
chavañhima½ vin±setha, n±ya½ sa½v±san±raho”ti.
Tattha n±ssa s²lanti na assa s²la½. Anaññ±y±ti aj±nitv±. Bhutv±ti kh±ditv±. V±c±ya no ca k±yen±ti ayañhi vacaneneva dhamma½ carati, k±yena pana na karoti. Na ta½ dhamma½ adhiµµhitoti tasm± j±nitabbo yath±ya½ dhamma½ bhaºati, na ta½ adhiµµhito, tasmi½ dhamme na adhiµµhito. V±c±ya sakhiloti vacanena mudu. Manoviduggoti manas± viduggo duppaveso visamo. Channoti yasmi½ bile sayati, tena channo. K³pasayoti bil±sayo. Dhammadhajoti sucaritadhamma½ dhaja½ katv± vicaraºena dhammaddhajo. G±manigam±su s±dh³ti g±mesu ca nigamesu ca s±dhu bhaddako sambh±vito. Dujj±noti aya½ evar³po duss²lo paµicchannakammanto b±lisena aññ±ºena purisena na sakk± j±nitu½. P±d± cimanti attano attano p±dena ca ima½. Viheµhath±ti paharatha hanatha. Chavanti l±maka½. N±yanti aya½ amhehi saddhi½ ekasmi½ µh±ne sa½v±sa½ na arahat²ti.
Evañca pana vatv± sakuºajeµµhako sayameva laªghitv± tassa s²sa½ tuº¹ena pahari, avases± sakuº± tuº¹anakhap±dapakkhehi pahari½su. So tattheva j²vitakkhaya½ p±puºi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± kuhakak±ko id±ni kuhakabhikkhu ahosi, sakuºar±j± pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
