Tattha mah±satto maªgalasil±paµµe nipajji, dar²mukho panassa p±de parimajjanto nis²di.
Tad± b±r±ºasirañño matassa sattamo divaso hoti. Purohito rañño sar²rakicca½ katv± aputtake rajje sattame divase phussaratha½ vissajjesi. Phussarathavissajjanakicca½ mah±janakaj±take (j±. 2.22.123 ±dayo) ±vi bhavissati. Phussaratho nagar± nikkhamitv± caturaªginiy± sen±ya parivuto anekasatehi t³riyehi vajjam±nehi uyy±nadv±ra½ p±puºi. Dar²mukho t³riyasadda½ sutv± “sah±yassa me phussaratho ±gacchati, ajjevesa r±j± hutv± mayha½ sen±patiµµh±na½ dassati, ko me ghar±v±senattho, nikkhamitv± pabbajiss±m²”ti bodhisatta½ an±mantetv±va ekamanta½ gantv± paµicchanne aµµh±si. Purohito uyy±nadv±re ratha½ µhapetv± uyy±na½ paviµµho bodhisatta½ maªgalasil±paµµe nipanna½ disv± p±desu lakkhaº±ni oloketv± “aya½ puññav± satto dvisahassad²papariv±r±na½ catunnampi mah±d²p±na½ rajja½ k±retu½ samattho, dhiti panassa k²dis±”ti sabbat³riy±ni paggaºh±pesi. Bodhisatto pabujjhitv± mukhato s±µaka½ apanetv± mah±jana½ oloketv± puna s±µakena mukha½ paµicch±detv± thoka½ nipajjitv± passaddhadaratho uµµh±ya sil±paµµe pallaªkena nis²di. Purohito j±ºukena patiµµh±ya “deva, rajja½ tumh±ka½ p±puº±t²”ti ±ha. “Aputtaka½ bhaºe rajjan”ti. “¾ma, dev±”ti. “Tena hi s±dh³”ti sampaµicchi. Te tassa uyy±neyeva abhiseka½ aka½su. So yasamahantat±ya dar²mukha½ asaritv±va ratha½ abhiruyha mah±janaparivuto nagara½ pavisitv± padakkhiºa½ katv± r±jadv±re µhitova amacc±na½ µh±nantar±ni vic±retv± p±s±da½ abhiruhi.
Tasmi½ khaºe dar²mukho “suñña½ d±ni uyy±nan”ti ±gantv± maªgalasil±ya nis²di, athassa purato paº¹upal±sa½ pati. So tasmi½yeva paº¹upal±se khayavaya½ paµµhapetv± tilakkhaºa½ sammasitv± pathavi½ unn±dento paccekabodhi½ nibbattesi. Tassa taªkhaºaññeva gihiliªga½ antaradh±yi, iddhimayapattac²vara½ ±k±sato otaritv± sar²re paµimuñci. T±vadeva aµµhaparikkh±radharo iriy±pathasampanno vassasaµµhikatthero viya hutv± iddhiy± ±k±se uppatitv± himavantapadese nandam³lakapabbh±ra½ agam±si. Bodhisattopi dhammena rajja½ k±resi, yasamahantat±ya pana yasena pamatto hutv± catt±l²sa vass±ni dar²mukha½ na sari, catt±l²se pana sa½vacchare at²te ta½ saritv± “mayha½ sah±yo dar²mukho n±ma atthi, kaha½ nu kho so”ti ta½ daµµhuk±mo ahosi. So tato paµµh±ya antepurepi parisamajjhepi “kaha½ nu kho mayha½ sah±yo dar²mukho yo me tassa vasanaµµh±na½ katheti, mahantamassa yasa½ dass±m²”ti vadati. Eva½ tassa punappuna½ ta½ sarantasseva aññ±ni dasa sa½vacchar±ni atikkant±ni.
Dar²mukhapaccekabuddhopi paññ±savassaccayena ±vajjento “ma½ kho sah±yo sarat²”ti ñatv± “id±ni so mahallako puttadh²t±d²hi vuddhippatto, gantv± dhamma½ kathetv± pabb±jess±mi nan”ti iddhiy± ±k±sena ±gantv± uyy±ne otaritv± suvaººapaµim± viya sil±paµµe nis²di. Uyy±nap±lo ta½ disv± upasaªkamitv± “bhante, kuto tumhe eth±”ti pucchi. “Nandam³lakapabbh±rato”ti. “Ke n±ma tumhe”ti? “Dar²mukhapaccekabuddho n±m±ha½, ±vuso”ti. “Bhante, amh±ka½ r±j±na½ j±n±th±”ti? “¾ma j±n±mi, gihik±le no sah±yo”ti. “Bhante, r±j± tumhe daµµhuk±mo, kathess±mi tassa tumh±ka½ ±gatabh±van”ti. “Gaccha katheh²”ti. So “s±dh³”ti vatv± turitaturitova gantv± tassa sil±paµµe nisinnabh±va½ rañño kathesi. R±j± “±gato kira me sah±yo, passiss±mi nan”ti ratha½ ±ruyha mahantena pariv±rena uyy±na½ gantv± paccekabuddha½ vanditv± paµisanth±ra½ katv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Atha na½ paccekabuddho “ki½, brahmadatta, dhammena rajja½ k±resi, agatigamana½ na gacchasi, dhanatth±ya loka½ na p²¼esi, d±n±d²ni puññ±ni karos²”ti-±d²ni vadanto paµisanth±ra½ katv± “brahmadatta, mahallakosi, etarahi k±me pah±ya pabbajitu½ te samayo”ti vatv± tassa dhamma½ desento paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
14. “Paªko ca k±m± palipo ca k±m±, bhayañca meta½ tim³la½ pavutta½;
rajo ca dh³mo ca may± pak±sit±, hitv± tuva½ pabbaja brahmadatt±”ti.
Tattha paªkoti udake j±t±ni tiºasev±lakumudagacch±d²ni adhippet±ni. Yath± hi udaka½ taranta½ t±ni lagg±penti sajj±penti, tath± sa½s±ras±gara½ tarantassa yog±vacarassa pañca k±maguº± sabbe v± pana vatthuk±makilesak±m± lagg±panavasena paªko n±ma. Imasmiñhi paªke ±satt± visatt± dev±pi manuss±pi tiracch±n±pi kilamanti rodanti paridevanti. Palipo ca k±m±ti palipo vuccati mah±kaddamo, yamhi lagg± s³karamig±dayopi s²h±pi v±raº±pi att±na½ uddharitv± gantu½ na sakkonti, vatthuk±makilesak±m±pi ta½sarikkhat±ya “palip±”ti vutt±. Paññavantopi hi satt± tesu k±mesu saki½ laggak±lato paµµh±ya te k±me pad±letv± s²gha½ uµµh±ya akiñcana½ apalibodha½ ramaº²ya½ pabbajja½ upagantu½ na sakkonti. Bhayañca metanti bhayañca eta½, ma-k±ro byañjanasandhivasena vutto. Tim³lanti t²hi m³lehi patiµµhita½ viya acala½. Balavabhayasseta½ n±ma½. Pavuttanti mah±r±ja, ete k±m± n±ma diµµhadhammikasampar±yikassa att±nuv±dabhay±dikassa ceva dvatti½sakammakaraºachanavutirogavasappavattassa ca bhayassa paccayaµµhena balavabhayanti buddhapaccekabuddhabuddhas±vakehi ceva sabbaññubodhisattehi ca pavutta½ kathita½, d²pitanti attho. Atha v± bhayañca metanti bhayañca may± eta½ tim³la½ pavuttanti evañcettha attho daµµhabboyeva.
Rajo ca dh³mo c±ti rajadh³masadisatt± “rajo”ti ca “dh³mo”ti ca may± pak±sit±. Yath± hi sunh±tassa suvilitt±laªkatassa purisassa sar²re sukhumaraja½ patita½, ta½ sar²ra½ dubbaººa½ sobh±rahita½ kiliµµha½ karoti, evameva iddhibalena ±k±sena ±gantv± cando viya ca s³riyo viya ca loke paññ±t±pi saki½ k±marajassa anto patitak±lato paµµh±ya guºavaººaguºasobh±guºasuddh²na½ upahatatt± dubbaºº± sobh±rahit± kiliµµh±yeva honti. Yath± ca dh³mena pahaµak±lato paµµh±ya suparisuddh±pi bhitti k±¼avaºº± hoti, eva½ atiparisuddhaññ±º±pi k±madh³mena pahaµak±lato paµµh±ya guºavin±sappattiy± mah±janamajjhe k±¼ak±va hutv± paññ±yanti. Iti rajadh³masarikkhat±ya ete k±m± “rajo ca dh³mo c±”ti may± tuyha½ pak±sit±, tasm± ime k±me hitv± tuva½ pabbaja brahmadatt±ti r±j±na½ pabbajj±ya uss±ha½ janeti.
Ta½ sutv± r±j± kilesehi attano baddhabh±va½ kathento dutiya½ g±tham±ha–
15. “Gadhito ca ratto ca adhimucchito ca, k±mesvaha½ br±hmaºa bhi½sar³pa½;
ta½ nussahe j²vikattho pah±tu½, k±h±mi puññ±ni anappak±n²”ti.
Tattha gadhitoti abhijjh±k±yaganthena baddho. Rattoti pakatijah±panena r±gena ratto. Adhimucchitoti ativiya mucchito. K±mesvahanti duvidhesupi k±mesu aha½. Br±hmaº±ti dar²mukhapaccekabuddha½ ±lapati. Bhi½sar³panti balavar³pa½. Ta½ nussaheti ta½ duvidhampi k±ma½ na ussah±mi na sakkomi. J²vikattho pah±tunti im±ya j²vik±ya atthiko aha½ ta½ k±ma½ pah±tu½ na sakkom²ti vadati. K±h±mi puññ±n²ti id±ni d±nas²la-uposathakammasaªkh±t±ni puññ±ni anappak±ni bah³ni kariss±m²ti.
Eva½ kilesak±mo n±mesa saki½ all²nak±lato paµµh±ya apanetu½ na sakkoti, yena sa½kiliµµhacitto mah±puriso paccekabuddhena pabbajj±ya guºe kathitepi “pabbajitu½ na sakkom²”ti ±ha. Yoya½ d²paªkarap±dam³le attani sambhavena ñ±ºena buddhakaradhamme vicinanto tatiya½ nekkhammap±rami½ disv±–
“Ima½ tva½ tatiya½ t±va, da¼ha½ katv± sam±diya;
nekkhammap±ramita½ gaccha, yadi bodhi½ pattumicchasi.
“Yath± andughare puriso, ciravuttho dukhaµµito;
na tattha r±ga½ janeti, mutti½yeva gavesati.
“Tatheva tva½ sabbabhave, passa andughare viya;
nekkhamm±bhimukho hutv±, sambodhi½ p±puºissas²”ti.–

Eva½ nekkhamme guºa½ parikittesi, so paccekabuddhena pabbajj±ya vaººa½ vatv± “kilese cha¹¹etv± samaºo hoh²”ti vuccam±nopi “n±ha½ kilese cha¹¹etv± samaºo bhavitu½ sakkom²”ti vadati.

Imasmi½ kira loke aµµha ummattak± n±ma. Ten±hu por±º± “aµµha puggal± ummattakasañña½ paµilabhanti, k±mummattako lobhavasa½ gato kodhummattako dosavasa½ gato, diµµhummattako vipall±savasa½ gato, mohummattako aññ±ºavasa½ gato, yakkhummattako yakkhavasa½ gato, pittummattako pittavasa½ gato, surummattako p±navasa½ gato, byasanummattako sokavasa½ gato”ti. Imesu aµµhasu ummattakesu mah±satto imasmi½ j±take k±mummattako hutv± lobhavasa½ gato pabbajj±ya guºa½ na aññ±si.
Eva½ anatthak±raka½ pana ima½ guºaparidha½saka½ lobhaj±ta½ kasm± satt± parimuñcitu½ na sakkont²ti? Anamatagge sa½s±re anek±ni kappakoµisatasahass±ni ekato bandhitabh±vena. Eva½ santepi ta½ paº¹it± “appass±d± k±m±”ti-±d²na½ anekesa½ paccavekkhaº±na½ vasena pajahanti. Teneva dar²mukhapaccekabuddho mah±sattena “pabbajitu½ na sakkom²”ti vuttepi dhuranikkhepa½ akatv± uttarimpi ovadanto dve g±th± ±ha.
16. “Yo atthak±massa hit±nukampino, ovajjam±no na karoti s±sana½;
idameva seyyo iti maññam±no, punappuna½ gabbhamupeti mando.
17. “So ghorar³pa½ niraya½ upeti, subh±subha½ muttakar²sap³ra½;
satt± sak±ye na jahanti giddh±, ye honti k±mesu av²tar±g±”ti.
Tattha atthak±mass±ti vu¹¹hik±massa. Hit±nukampinoti hitena muducittena anukampantassa. Ovajjam±noti ovadiyam±no. Idameva seyyoti ya½ attan± gahita½ aseyya½ anuttamampi sam±na½, ta½ idameva seyyo iti maññam±no. Mandoti so aññ±ºapuggalo m±tukucchiya½ v±sa½ n±tikkamati, punappuna½ gabbha½ upetiyev±ti attho.
So ghorar³panti mah±r±ja, so mando ta½ m±tukucchi½ upento ghorar³pa½ d±ruºaj±tika½ niraya½ upeti n±ma. M±tukucchi hi nirass±daµµhena idha “nirayo”ti vutto, “catukuµµikanirayo”ti vuccati. “Catukuµµikanirayo n±ma kataro”ti vutte m±tukucchimeva vattu½ vaµµati. Av²cimah±niraye nibbattasattassa hi apar±para½ ±dh±vanaparidh±vana½ hotiyeva, tasm± ta½ “catukuµµikanirayo”ti vattu½ na labbhati, m±tukucchiya½ pana nava v± dasa v± m±se cat³hipi passehi ito cito ca dh±vitu½ n±ma na sakk±, atisamb±dhe ok±se catukoµena catusaªkuµiteneva hutv± acchitabba½, tasm± esa “catukuµµikanirayo”ti vuccati.
Subh±subhanti subh±na½ asubha½. Subh±nañhi sa½s±rabh²ruk±na½ yog±vacarakulaputt±na½ m±tukucchi ekanta½ asubhasammato. Tena vutta½–
“Ajañña½ jaññasaªkh±ta½, asuci½ sucisammata½;
n±n±kuºapaparip³ra½, jaññar³pa½ apassato.
“Dhiratthuma½ ±tura½ p³tik±ya½, jegucchiya½ assuci½ by±dhidhamma½;
yatthappamatt± adhimucchit± paj±, h±penti magga½ sugat³papattiy±”ti. (J±. 1.3.128-129).
Satt±ti ±satt± visatt± lagg± laggit± sak±ye na jahant²ti ta½ m±tukucchi½ na pariccajanti Giddh±ti gadhit±. Ye hont²ti ye k±mesu av²tar±g± honti, te eta½ gabbhav±sa½ na jahant²ti.
Eva½ dar²mukhapaccekabuddho gabbha-okkantim³lakañca, parih±ram³lakañca dukkha½ dassetv± id±ni gabbhavuµµh±nam³laka½ dassetu½ diya¹¹hag±tham±ha.
18. “M²¼hena litt± ruhirena makkhit±, semhena litt± upanikkhamanti;
ya½ yañhi k±yena phusanti t±vade, sabba½ as±ta½ dukhameva kevala½.

id±ni satth± abhisambuddho hutv± “eva½ so paccekabuddho r±j±na½ subh±sitakath±ya saªgaºh²”ti vatv± os±ne upa¹¹hag±tham±ha–
“citr±hi g±th±hi subh±sit±hi, dar²mukho nijjh±payi sumedhan”ti;
tattha citr±h²ti anekatthasannissit±hi; subh±sit±h²ti sukathit±hi; dar²mukho nijjh±payi sumedhanti bhikkhave, so dar²mukhapaccekabuddho ta½ sumedha½ sundarapañña½ k±raº±k±raºaj±nanasamattha½ r±j±na½ nijjh±pesi saññ±pesi, attano vacana½ gaºh±pes²ti attho;
