Eko araññeti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto dhammasen±pati½ ±rabbha kathesi. Thero kira ±gat±gat±na½ duss²l±na½ migaluddakamacchabandh±d²na½ diµµhadiµµh±naññeva “s²la½ gaºhatha, s²la½ gaºhath±”ti s²la½ deti. Te there garubh±vena tassa katha½ bhinditu½ asakkont± s²la½ gaºhanti, gahetv± ca pana na rakkhanti, attano attano kammameva karonti. Thero saddhivih±rike ±mantetv± “±vuso, ime manuss± mama santike s²la½ gaºhi½su, gaºhitv± ca pana na rakkhant²”ti ±ha. “Bhante, tumhe etesa½ aruciy± s²la½ detha, ete tumh±ka½ katha½ bhinditu½ asakkont± gaºhanti, tumhe ito paµµh±ya evar³p±na½ s²la½ m± adatth±”ti. Thero anattamano ahosi. Ta½ pavatti½ sutv± bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “±vuso, s±riputtatthero kira diµµhadiµµh±naññeva s²la½ det²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepesa diµµhadiµµh±na½ ay±cant±naññeva s²la½ det²”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto br±hmaºakule nibbattitv± vayappatto takkasil±ya½ dis±p±mokkhassa ±cariyassa jeµµhantev±siko koraº¹iyo n±ma ahosi. Tad± so ±cariyo diµµhadiµµh±na½ kevaµµ±d²na½ ay±cant±naññeva “s²la½ gaºhatha, s²la½ gaºhath±”ti s²la½ deti. Te gahetv±pi na rakkhanti ±cariyo tamattha½ antev±sik±na½ ±rocesi. Antev±sik± “bhante, tumhe etesa½ aruciy± s²la½ detha, tasm± bhindanti, ito d±ni paµµh±ya y±cant±naññeva dadeyy±tha, m± ay±cant±nan”ti vadi½su. So vippaµis±r² ahosi, eva½ santepi diµµhadiµµh±na½ s²la½ detiyeva.
Athekadivasa½ ekasm± g±m± manuss± ±gantv± br±hmaºav±canakatth±ya ±cariya½ nimantayi½su. So koraº¹iyam±ºava½ pakkositv± “t±ta, aha½ na gacch±mi, tva½ ime pañcasate m±ºave gahetv± tattha gantv± v±canak±ni sampaµicchitv± amh±ka½ dinnakoµµh±sa½ ±har±”ti pesesi. So gantv± paµinivattanto antar±magge eka½ kandara½ disv± cintesi “amh±ka½ ±cariyo diµµhadiµµh±na½ ay±cant±naññeva s²la½ deti, ito d±ni paµµh±ya yath± y±cant±naññeva deti, tath± na½ kariss±m²”ti. So tesu m±ºavesu sukhanisinnesu uµµh±ya mahanta½ mahanta½ sela½ ukkhipitv± kandar±ya½ khipi, punappuna½ khipiyeva. Atha na½ te m±ºav± uµµh±ya “±cariya, ki½ karos²”ti ±ha½su. So na kiñci kathesi, te vegena gantv± ±cariyassa ±rocesu½. ¾cariyo ±gantv± tena saddhi½ sallapanto paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
34. “Eko araññe girikandar±ya½, paggayha paggayha sila½ pavecchasi;
punappuna½ santaram±nar³po, koraº¹iya ko nu tava yidhattho”ti.
Tattha ko nu tava yidhatthoti ko nu tava idha kandar±ya½ sil±khipanena attho.
So tassa vacana½ sutv± ±cariya½ pabodhetuk±mo dutiya½ g±tham±ha–
35. “Ahañhima½ s±garasevitanta½, sama½ kariss±mi yath±pi p±ºi;
vikiriya s±n³ni ca pabbat±ni ca, tasm± sila½ dariy± pakkhip±m²”ti.
Tattha ahañhimanti ahañhi ima½ mah±pathavi½. S±garasevitantanti s±garehi sevita½ c±turanta½. Yath±pi p±º²ti hatthatala½ viya sama½ kariss±mi. Vikiriy±ti vikiritv±. S±n³ni ca pabbat±ni c±ti pa½supabbate ca sil±pabbate ca.
Ta½ sutv± br±hmaºo tatiya½ g±tham±ha–
36. “Nayima½ mahi½ arahati p±ºikappa½, sama½ manusso karaº±ya meko;
maññ±mimaññeva dari½ jig²sa½, koraº¹iya h±hasi j²valokan”ti.
Tattha karaº±ya mekoti karaº±ya eko k±tu½ na sakkot²ti d²peti. Maññ±mimaññeva dari½ jig²santi aha½ maññ±mi tiµµhatu pathav², imaññeva eka½ dari½ jig²sa½ p³raºatth±ya v±yamanto sil± pariyesanto up±ya½ vicinantova tva½ ima½ j²valoka½ h±hasi jahissasi, marissas²ti attho.
Ta½ sutv± m±ºavo catuttha½ g±tham±ha–
37. “Sace aya½ bh³tadhara½ na sakk±, sama½ manusso karaº±ya meko;
evameva tva½ brahme ime manusse, n±n±diµµhike n±nayissasi te”ti.
Tassattho– sace aya½ eko manusso ima½ bh³tadhara½ pathavi½ sama½ k±tu½ na sakk± na samattho, evameva tva½ ime duss²lamanusse n±n±diµµhike n±nayissasi, te eva½ “s²la½ gaºhatha, s²la½ gaºhath±”ti vadanto attano vasa½ na ±nayissasi, paº¹itapuris±yeva hi p±º±tip±ta½ “akusalan”ti garahanti. Sa½s±ramocak±dayo panettha kusalasaññino, te tva½ katha½ ±nayissasi, tasm± diµµhadiµµh±na½ s²la½ adatv± y±cant±naññeva deh²ti.
Ta½ sutv± ±cariyo “yutta½ vadati koraº¹iyo, id±ni na evar³pa½ kariss±m²”ti attano viraddhabh±va½ ñatv± pañcama½ g±tham±ha–
38. “Sa½khittar³pena bhava½ mamattha½, akkh±si koraº¹iya evameta½;
yath± na sakk± pathav² sam±ya½, kattu½ manussena tath± manuss±”ti.
Tattha sam±yanti sama½ aya½. Eva½ ±cariyo m±ºavassa thuti½ ak±si, sopi na½ bodhetv± saya½ ghara½ nesi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± br±hmaºo s±riputto ahosi, koraº¹iyam±ºavo pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
