Tiºa½ tiºanti lapas²ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto kuhakabhikkhu½ ±rabbha kathesi. Paccuppannavatthu kathitameva.
At²te pana b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto tassa atthadhamm±nus±sako amacco ahosi. B±r±ºasir±j± mahatiy± sen±ya kosalar±j±na½ abbhuggantv± s±vatthi½ patv± yuddhena nagara½ pavisitv± r±j±na½ gaºhi. Kosalarañño pana putto chatto n±ma kum±ro atthi. So aññ±takavesena nikkhamitv± takkasila½ gantv± tayo vede ca aµµh±rasa sipp±ni ca uggaºhitv± takkasilato nikkhamma sabbasamayasipp±ni sikkhanto eka½ paccantag±ma½ p±puºi. Ta½ niss±ya pañcasatat±pas± araññe paººas±l±su vasanti. Kum±ro te upasaªkamitv± “imesampi santike kiñci sikkhiss±m²”ti pabbajitv± ya½ te j±nanti, ta½ sabba½ uggaºhi. So aparabh±ge gaºasatth± j±to.
Athekadivasa½ isigaºa½ ±mantetv± “m±ris±, kasm± majjhimadesa½ na gacchath±”ti pucchi. “M±risa, majjhimadese manuss± n±ma paº¹it±, te pañha½ pucchanti, anumodana½ k±r±penti, maªgala½ bhaº±penti, asakkonte garahanti, maya½ tena bhayena na gacch±m±”ti. “M± tumhe bh±yatha, ahameta½ sabba½ kariss±m²”ti. “Tena hi gacch±m±”ti sabbe attano attano kh±rivividham±d±ya anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patt±. B±r±ºasir±j±pi kosalarajja½ attano hatthagata½ katv± tattha r±jayutte µhapetv± saya½ tattha vijjam±na½ dhana½ gahetv± b±r±ºasi½ gantv± uyy±ne lohac±µiyo p³r±petv± nidahitv± tasmi½ samaye b±r±ºasiyameva vasati. Atha te isayo r±juyy±ne ratti½ vasitv± punadivase nagara½ bhikkh±ya pavisitv± r±jadv±ra½ agama½su. R±j± tesa½ iriy±pathessu pas²ditv± pakkos±petv± mah±tale nis²d±petv± y±gukhajjaka½ datv± y±va bhattak±l± ta½ ta½ pañha½ pucchi. Chatto rañño citta½ ±r±dhento sabbapañhe vissajjetv± bhattakicc±vas±ne vicitra½ anumodana½ ak±si. R±j± suµµhutara½ pasanno paµiñña½ gahetv± sabbepi te uyy±ne v±s±pesi.
Chatto nidhi-uddharaºamanta½ j±n±ti. So tattha vasanto “kaha½ nu kho imin± mama pitu santaka½ dhana½ nidahitan”ti manta½ parivattetv± olokento uyy±ne nidahitabh±va½ ñatv± “ida½ dhana½ gahetv± mama rajja½ gaºhiss±m²”ti cintetv± t±pase ±mantetv± “m±ris±, aha½ kosalarañño putto, b±r±ºasiraññ± amh±ka½ rajje gahite aññ±takavesena nikkhamitv± ettaka½ k±la½ attano j²vita½ anurakkhi½, id±ni kulasantaka½ dhana½ laddha½, aha½ eta½ ±d±ya gantv± attano rajja½ gaºhiss±mi, tumhe ki½ karissath±”ti ±ha. “Mayampi tay±va saddhi½ gamiss±m±”ti So “s±dh³”ti mahante mahante cammapasibbake k±retv± rattibh±ge bh³mi½ khaºitv± dhanac±µiyo uddharitv± pasibbakesu dhana½ pakkhipitv± c±µiyo tiºassa p³r±petv± pañca ca isisat±ni aññe ca manusse dhana½ g±h±petv± pal±yitv± s±vatthi½ gantv± sabbe r±jayutte g±h±petv± rajja½ gahetv± p±k±ra-aµµ±lak±dipaµisaªkharaºa½ k±r±petv± puna sapattaraññ± yuddhena aggahetabba½ katv± nagara½ ajjh±vasati. B±r±ºasiraññopi “t±pas± uyy±nato dhana½ gahetv± pal±t±”ti ±rocayi½su. So uyy±na½ gantv± c±µiyo vivar±petv± tiºameva passi, tassa dhana½ niss±ya mahanto soko uppajji. So nagara½ gantv± “tiºa½ tiºan”ti vippalapanto carati, n±ssa koci soka½ nibb±petu½ sakkoti.
Bodhisatto cintesi “rañño mahanto soko, vippalapanto carati, µhapetv± kho pana ma½ n±ssa añño koci soka½ vinodetu½ samattho, nissoka½ na½ kariss±m²”ti. So ekadivasa½ tena saddhi½ sukhanisinno tassa vippalapanak±le paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
141. “Tiºa½ tiºanti lapasi, ko nu te tiºam±hari;
ki½ nu te tiºakiccatthi, tiºameva pabh±sas²”ti.
Tattha ki½ nu te tiºakiccatth²ti ki½ nu tava tiºena kicca½ k±tabba½ atthi. Tiºameva pabh±sas²ti tvañhi kevala½ “tiºa½ tiºan”ti tiºameva pabh±sasi, “asukatiºa½ n±m±”ti na kathesi, tiºan±ma½ t±vassa kathehi “asukatiºa½ n±m±”ti, maya½ te ±hariss±ma, atha pana te tiºenattho natthi, nikk±raº± m± vippalap²ti.

142. “Idh±gam± brahmac±r², brah± chatto bahussuto;
so me sabba½ sam±d±ya, tiºa½ nikkhippa gacchat²”ti.
Tattha brah±ti d²gho. Chattoti tassa n±ma½. Sabba½ sam±d±y±ti sabba½ dhana½ gahetv±. Tiºa½ nikkhippa gacchat²ti c±µ²su tiºa½ nikkhipitv± gatoti dassento evam±ha.

143. “Eveta½ hoti kattabba½, appena bahumicchat±;
sabba½ sakassa ±d±na½, an±d±na½ tiºassa c±”ti.
Tassattho appena tiºena bahudhana½ icchat± eva½ eta½ kattabba½ hoti, yadida½ pitu santakatt± sakassa dhanassa sabba½ ±d±na½ agayh³pagassa tiºassa ca an±d±na½. Iti, mah±r±ja, so brah± chatto gahetabbayuttaka½ attano pitu santaka½ dhana½ gahetv± aggahetabbayuttaka½ tiºa½ c±µ²su pakkhipitv± gato, tattha k± paridevan±ti.

144. “S²lavanto na kubbanti, b±lo s²l±ni kubbati;
aniccas²la½ duss²lya½, ki½ paº¹icca½ karissat²”ti.
Tattha s²lavantoti ye s²lasampann± brahmac±rayo, te evar³pa½ na kubbanti. B±lo s²l±ni kubbat²ti b±lo pana dur±c±ro evar³p±ni attano an±c±rasaªkh±t±ni s²l±ni karoti. Aniccas²lanti addhuvena d²gharatta½ appavattena s²lena samann±gata½. Duss²lyanti duss²la½. Ki½ paº¹icca½ karissat²ti evar³pa½ puggala½ b±husaccaparibh±vita½ paº¹icca½ ki½ karissati ki½ samp±dessati, vipattimevassa karissat²ti. Ta½ garahanto vatv± so t±ya bodhisattassa kath±ya nissoko hutv± dhammena rajja½ k±resi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± brah±chatto kuhakabhikkhu ahosi, paº¹it±macco pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
