Manussasseva te s²santi ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto mah±kassapattherassa paŗŗas±lajh±paka½ daharabhikkhu½ ±rabbha kathesi. Vatthu pana r±jagahe samuµµhita½. Tad± kira thero r±jagaha½ niss±ya arańńakuµiya½ viharati, tassa dve dahar± upaµµh±na½ karonti. Tesu eko therassa upak±rako, eko dubbaco itarena kata½ attan± katasadisa½ karoti. Tena mukhodak±d²su upaµµh±pitesu therassa santika½ gantv± vanditv± “bhante, udaka½ µhapita½, mukha½ dhovath±”ti-±d²ni vadati. Tena k±lasseva vuµµh±ya therassa pariveŗe sammaµµhe therassa nikkhamanavel±ya ito cito ca paharanto sakalapariveŗa½ attan± sammaµµha½ viya karoti. Vattasampanno cintesi “aya½ dubbaco may± kata½ attan± katasadisa½ karoti, etassa saµhakamma½ p±kaµa½ kariss±m²”ti.
Tasmi½ antog±me bhutv± ±gantv± nidd±yanteva nh±nodaka½ t±petv± piµµhikoµµhake µhapetv± ańńa½ a¹¹han±¼imatta½ udaka½ uddhane µhapesi. Itaro pabujjhitv±va gantv± usuma½ uµµhahanta½ disv± “udaka½ t±petv± koµµhake µhapita½ bhavissat²”ti therasssa santika½ gantv± “bhante, nh±nakoµµhake udaka½ µhapita½, nh±yath±”ti ±ha. Thero ‘nh±yiss±m²”ti tena saddhi½yeva ±gantv± koµµhake udaka½ aditv± “kaha½ udakan”ti pucchi. So vegena aggis±la½ gantv± tucchabh±jane u¼uŖka½ ot±resi, u¼uŖko tucchabh±janassa tale paµihato “tat±”ti saddamak±si. Tato paµµh±ya tassa “u¼uŖkasaddako”tveva n±ma½ j±ta½.
Tasmi½ khaŗe itaro piµµhikoµµhakato udaka½ ±haritv± “nh±yatha, bhante”ti ±ha. Thero nhatv± ±vajjento u¼uŖkasaddakassa dubbacabh±va½ ńatv± ta½ s±ya½ therupaµµh±na½ ±gata½ ovadi “±vuso, samaŗena n±ma attan± katameva ‘kata½ me’ti vattu½ vaµµati, ańńath± sampaj±namus±v±do hoti, ito paµµh±ya evar³pa½ m± ak±s²”ti. So therassa kujjhitv± punadivase therena saddhi½ piŗ¹±ya g±ma½ na p±visi. Thero itareneva saddhi½ p±visi. U¼uŖkasaddakopi therassa upaµµh±kakula½ gantv± “bhante, thero kahan”ti vutte “aph±sukena vih±reyeva nisinno”ti vatv± “ki½, bhante, laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti vutte “idańcidańca deth±”ti gahetv± attano rucitaµµh±na½ gantv± bhuńjitv± vih±ra½ agam±si.
Punadivase thero ta½ kula½ gantv± nis²di. Manussehi “ki½, bhante, ayyassa aph±suka½, hiyyo kirattha vih±reyeva nisinn±, asukadaharassa hatthe ±h±ra½ pesayimha, paribhutto ayyen±”ti vutte thero tuŗh²bh³tova bhattakicca½ katv± vih±ra½ gantv± s±ya½ therupaµµh±nak±le ±gata½ ±mantetv± “±vuso, asukag±me n±ma asukakule ‘therassa idańcidańca laddhu½ vaµµat²’ti vińń±petv± kira te bhuttan”ti vatv± “vińńatti n±ma na vaµµati, m± puna evar³pa½ an±c±ra½ car±”ti ±ha. So ettakena there ±gh±ta½ bandhitv± “aya½ hiyyopi udakamatta½ niss±ya may± saddhi½ kalaha½ kari, id±ni panassa upaµµh±k±na½ gehe may± bhattamuµµhi bhutt±ti asahanto puna kalaha½ karoti, j±niss±missa kattabbayuttakan”ti punadivase there piŗ¹±ya paviµµhe muggara½ gahetv± paribhogabh±jan±ni bhinditv± paŗŗas±la½ jh±petv± pal±yi. So j²vam±nova manussapeto hutv± sussitv± k±la½ katv± av²cimah±niraye nibbatti. So tena kato an±c±ro mah±janassa majjhe p±kaµo j±to.
Athekacce bhikkh³ r±jagah± s±vatthi½ gantv± sabh±gaµµh±ne pattac²vara½ paµis±metv± satthu santika½ gantv± vanditv± nis²di½su. Satth± tehi saddhi½ paµisanth±ra½ katv± “kuto ±gatatth±”ti pucchi. “R±jagah±, bhante”ti. “Ko tattha ov±dad±yako ±cariyo”ti. “Mah±kassapatthero, bhante”ti. “Sukha½, bhikkhave, kassapass±”ti. “¾ma, bhante, therassa sukha½, saddhivih±riko panassa ov±de dinne kujjhitv± therassa paŗŗas±la½ jh±petv± pal±y²ti. Ta½ sutv± satth± “bhikkhave, kassapassa evar³pena b±lena saddhi½ caraŗato ekacariy±va seyyo”ti vatv± ima½ dhammapade g±tham±ha–
“Carańce n±dhigaccheyya, seyya½ sadisamattano;
ekacariya½ da¼ha½ kayir±, natthi b±le sah±yat±”ti. (Dha. pa. 61).
Idańca pana vatv± puna te bhikkh³ ±mantetv± “na, bhikkhave, id±neva so kuµid³sako, pubbepi kuµid³sakoyeva, na ca id±neva ov±dad±yakassa kujjhati, pubbepi kujjhiyev±”ti vatv± tehi y±cito at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ŗasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto siŖgilasakuŗayoniya½ nibbattitv± vayappatto attano man±pa½ anovassaka½ kul±vaka½ katv± himavantapadese vasati. Atheko makkaµo vassak±le acchinnadh±re deve vassante s²tap²¼ito dante kh±danto bodhisattassa avid³re nis²di. Bodhisatto ta½ tath± kilamanta½ disv± tena saddhi½ sallapanto paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
81. “Manussasseva te s²sa½, hatthap±d± ca v±nara;
atha kena nu vaŗŗena, ag±ra½ te na vijjat²”ti.
Tattha vaŗŗen±ti k±raŗena. Ag±ranti tava niv±sageha½ kena k±raŗena natth²ti pucchi.

82. “Manussasseva me s²sa½, hatthap±d± ca siŖgila;
y±hu seµµh± manussesu, s± me pańń± na vijjat²”ti.
Tattha siŖgil±ti ta½ sakuŗa½ n±men±lapati. Y±hu seµµh± manusses³ti y± manussesu seµµh±ti kathenti, s± mama vic±raŗapańń± natthi. S²sahatthap±dak±yabal±ni hi loke appam±ŗa½, vic±raŗapańń±va seµµh±, s± mama natthi, tasm± me ag±ra½ na vijjat²ti.
Ta½ sutv± bodhisatto itara½ g±th±dvayam±ha–
83. “Anavaµµhitacittassa, lahucittassa dubbhino;
nicca½ addhuvas²lassa, sukhabh±vo na vijjati.
84. “So karassu ±nubh±va½, v²tivattassu s²liya½;
s²tav±taparitt±ŗa½, karassu kuµava½ kap²”ti.
Tattha anavaµµhitacittass±ti appatiµµhitacittassa. Dubbhinoti mittadubbhissa. Addhuvas²lass±ti na sabbak±la½ s²larakkhakassa. So karassu ±nubh±vanti so tva½ samma makkaµa pańń±ya upp±danattha½ ±nubh±va½ bala½ up±ya½ karohi. V²tivattassu s²liyanti attano duss²labh±vasaŖkh±ta½ s²liya½ atikkamitv± s²lav± hoti. Kuµava½ kap²ti s²tav±tassa paritt±ŗasamattha½ attano kuµava½ kul±vaka½ eka½ vasan±g±raka½ karoh²ti.
Makkaµo cintesi “aya½ t±va attano anovassakaµµh±ne nisinnabh±vena ma½ paribh±sati, na nis²d±pess±mi na½ imasmi½ kul±vake”ti. Tato bodhisatta½ gaŗhituk±mo pakkhandi, bodhisatto uppatitv± ańńattha gato. Makkaµo kul±vaka½ viddha½setv± cuŗŗavicuŗŗa½ katv± pakk±mi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± makkaµo kuµijh±pako ahosi, siŖgilasakuŗo pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
