Suta½ meta½ mah±brahmeti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto ukkaºµhitabhikkhu½ ±rabbha kathesi. Tañhi bhikkhu½ eka½ alaªkatam±tug±ma½ disv± ukkaºµhita½ d²ghakesanakhaloma½ vibbhamituk±ma½ ±cariyupajjh±yehi aruciy± ±n²ta½. Satth± “sacca½ kira tva½ bhikkhu ukkaºµhitos²”ti pucchitv± “sacca½, bhante”ti vutte “ki½k±raº±”ti vatv± “alaªkatam±tug±ma½ disv± kilesavasena, bhante”ti vutte “bhikkhu kileso n±ma guºaviddha½sako appass±do niraye nibbatt±peti, esa pana kileso ki½k±raº± ta½ na kilamessati? Na hi sineru½ paharitv± paharaºav±to pur±ºapaººassa lajjati, imañhi kilesa½ niss±ya bodhiñ±ºassa anupada½ caram±n± pañca-abhiñña-aµµhasam±pattil±bhino visuddhamah±puris±pi sati½ upaµµhapetu½ asakkont± jh±na½ antaradh±pesun”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto ekasmi½ nigame as²tikoµivibhave br±hmaºakule nibbatti, kañcanachavit±ya panassa “haritacakum±ro”ti n±ma½ kari½su. Athekadivasa½ r±j± paccanta½ kupita½ v³pasametu½ gacchanto “amh±ka½ puññakkhetta½ m± pamajj²”ti mah±satta½ deviy± niyy±detv± agam±si. Tato paµµh±ya s± mah±satta½ sahatth± parivisati. Athekadivasa½ s± bhojana½ samp±detv± tasmi½ cir±yam±ne gandhodakena nhatv± saºha½ maµµhas±µaka½ niv±setv± s²hapañjara½ vivar±petv± sar²re v±ta½ pahar±pent² khuddakamañcake nipajji. Mah±sattopi div±tara½ sunivattho sup±ruto bhikkh±bh±jana½ ±d±ya ±k±sen±gantv± s²hapañjara½ p±puºi. Deviy± tassa v±kacirasadda½ sutv± vegena uµµhahantiy± maµµhas±µako bhassi, mah±sattassa visabh±g±rammaºa½ cakkhu½ paµihaññi. Athassa anekavassakoµisatasahassak±le abbhantare nivutthakileso karaº¹ake sayita-±s²viso viya uµµhahitv± jh±na½ antaradh±pesi. So sati½ upaµµh±petu½ asakkonto gantv± devi½ hatthe gaºhi, t±vadeva s±ºi½ parikkhipi½su. So t±ya saddhi½ lokadhamma½ sevitv± bhuñjitv± uyy±na½ gantv± tato paµµh±ya devasika½ tatheva ak±si. Tassa t±ya saddhi½ lokadhammapaµisevana½ sakalanagare p±kaµa½ j±ta½. Amacc± “haritacat±paso evamak±s²”ti rañño paººa½ pahiºi½su. R±j± “ma½ bhindituk±m± eva½ vadant²”ti asaddahitv± paccanta½ v³pasametv± b±r±ºasi½ pacc±gantv± nagara½ padakkhiºa½ katv± deviy± santika½ gantv± “sacca½, kira mama ayyo haritacat±paso tay± saddhi½ lokadhamma½ paµisevat²”ti pucchi. “Sacca½, dev±”ti. So tass±pi asaddahitv± “tameva paµipucchiss±m²”ti uyy±na½ gantv± vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²ditv± ta½ pucchanto paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
40. “Suta½ meta½ mah±brahme, k±me bhuñjati h±rito;
kacceta½ vacana½ tuccha½, kacci suddho iriyyas²”ti.
Tattha kaccetanti kacci eta½ “h±rito k±me paribhuñjat²”ti amhehi suta½ vacana½ tuccha½ abh³ta½, kacci tva½ suddho iriyyasi viharas²ti.
So cintesi– “aya½ r±j± ‘n±ha½ paribhuñj±m²’ti vuttepi mama saddahissateva, imasmi½ loke saccasadis² patiµµh± n±ma natthi. Ujjhitasacc± hi bodhim³le nis²ditv± bodhi½ p±puºitu½ na sakkonti, may± saccameva kathetu½ vaµµat²”ti. Bodhisattassa hi ekaccesu µh±nesu p±º±tip±topi adinn±d±nampi k±mesumicch±c±ropi sur±merayamajjap±nampi hotiyeva, atthabhedakavisa½v±dana½ purakkhatv± mus±v±do n±ma na hoti, tasm± so saccameva kathento dutiya½ g±tham±ha–
41. “Evameta½ mah±r±ja, yath± te vacana½ suta½;
kummagga½ paµipannosmi, mohaneyyesu mucchito”ti.
Tattha mohaneyyes³ti k±maguºesu. K±maguºesu hi loko muyhati, te ca loka½ mohayanti, tasm± te “mohaneyy±”ti vuccant²ti.
Ta½ sutv± r±j± tatiya½ g±tham±ha–
42. “Adu paññ± kimatthiy±, nipuº± s±dhucintin²;
y±ya uppatita½ r±ga½, ki½ mano na vinodaye”ti.
Tattha ad³ti nip±to. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– bhante, gil±nassa n±ma bhesajja½, pip±sitassa p±n²ya½ paµisaraºa½, tumh±ka½ panes± nipuº± s±dh³na½ atth±na½ cintin² paññ± kimatthiy±, y±ya puna uppatita½ r±ga½ ki½ mano na vinodaye, ki½ citta½ vinodetu½ n±sakkh²ti.
Athassa kilesabala½ dassento h±rito catuttha½ g±tham±ha–
43. “Catt±rome mah±r±ja, loke atibal± bhus±;
r±go doso mado moho, yattha paññ± na g±dhat²”ti.
Tattha yatth±ti yesu pariyuµµh±na½ pattesu mahoghe patit± viya paññ± g±dha½ patiµµha½ na labhati.
Ta½ sutv± r±j± pañcama½ g±tham±ha–
44. “Arah± s²lasampanno, suddho carati h±rito;
medh±v² paº¹ito ceva, iti no sammato bhavan”ti.
Tattha iti no sammatoti eva½ amh±ka½ sammato sambh±vito bhava½.
Tato h±rito chaµµhama½ g±tham±ha–
45. “Medh±v²nampi hi½santi, isi½ dhammaguºe rata½;
vitakk± p±pak± r±ja, subh± r±g³pasa½hit±”ti.
Tattha subh±ti subhanimittaggahaºena pavatt±ti.
Atha na½ kilesappah±ne uss±ha½ k±rento r±j± sattama½ g±tham±ha–
46. “Uppann±ya½ sar²rajo, r±go vaººavid³sano tava;
ta½ pajaha bhaddamatthu te, bahunn±si medh±visammato”ti.
Tattha vaººavid³sano tav±ti tava sar²ravaººassa ca guºavaººassa ca vid³sano. Bahunn±s²ti bah³na½ ±si medh±v²ti sammato.
Tato mah±satto sati½ labhitv± k±mesu ±d²nava½ sallakkhetv± aµµhama½ g±tham±ha–
47. “Te andhak±rake k±me, bahudukkhe mah±vise;
tesa½ m³la½ gavesissa½, checcha½ r±ga½ sabandhanan”ti.
Tattha andhak±raketi paññ±cakkhuvin±sanato andhabh±vakare. Bahudukkheti ettha “appass±d± k±m±”ti-±d²ni (ma. ni. 1.234; p±ci. 417; c³¼ava. 65) sutt±ni haritv± tesa½ bahudukkhat± dassetabb±. Mah±viseti sampayuttakilesavisassa ceva vip±kavisassa ca mahantat±ya mah±vise. Tesa½ m³lanti te vuttappak±re k±me pah±tu½ tesa½ m³la½ gavesissa½ pariyesiss±mi. Ki½ pana tesa½ m³lanti? Ayonisomanasik±ro. Checcha½ r±ga½ sabandhananti mah±r±ja, id±neva paññ±khaggena paharitv± subhanimittabandhanena sabandhana½ r±ga½ chindiss±m²ti.
Idañca pana vatv± “mah±r±ja, ok±sa½ t±va me karoh²”ti ok±sa½ k±retv± paººas±la½ pavisitv± kasiºamaº¹ala½ oloketv± puna naµµhajjh±na½ upp±detv± paººas±lato nikkhamitv± ±k±se pallaªkena nis²ditv± rañño dhamma½ desetv± “mah±r±ja, aha½ aµµh±ne vutthak±raº± mah±janamajjhe garahappatto, appamatto hohi, puna d±ni aha½ anitthigandhavanasaº¹ameva gamiss±m²”ti rañño rodantassa paridevantassa himavantameva gantv± aparih²najjh±no brahmalok³pago ahosi.
Satth± ta½ k±raºa½ ñatv±–
48. “Ida½ vatv±na h±rito, isi saccaparakkamo;
k±mar±ga½ vir±jetv±, brahmalok³pago ah³”ti.–

Abhisambuddho hutv± ima½ g±tha½ vatv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne ukkaºµhitabhikkhu arahatte patiµµhahi.
