Dumo yad± hot²ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto aññatara½ bhikkhu½ ±rabbha kathesi. So kira satthu santike kammaµµh±na½ gahetv± kosalajanapade aññatara½ paccantag±ma½ upaniss±ya araññe vih±si. Manuss± tassa rattiµµh±nadiv±µµh±n±ni samp±detv± gaman±gamanasampanne µh±ne sen±sana½ katv± sakkacca½ upaµµhahi½su. Tassa vass³pagatassa paµhamam±seyeva so g±mo jh±yi, manuss±na½ b²jamattampi avasiµµha½ n±hosi. Te tassa paº²ta½ piº¹ap±ta½ d±tu½ n±sakkhi½su. So sapp±yasen±sanepi piº¹ap±tena kilamanto magga½ v± phala½ v± nibbattetu½ n±sakkhi. Atha na½ tem±saccayena satth±ra½ vanditu½ ±gata½ satth± paµisanth±ra½ katv± “kacci bhikkhu piº¹ap±tena na kilamantosi, sen±sanasapp±yañca ahos²”ti pucchi. So tamattha½ ±rocesi. Satth± “tassa sen±sana½ sapp±yan”ti ñatv± “bhikkhu samaºena n±ma sen±sanasapp±ye sati loluppac±ra½ pah±ya kiñcideva yath±laddha½ paribhuñjitv± santuµµhena samaºadhamma½ k±tu½ vaµµati. Por±ºakapaº¹it± tiracch±nayoniya½ nibbattitv± attano niv±sasukkharukkhe cuººa½ kh±dant±pi loluppac±ra½ pah±ya santuµµh± mittadhamma½ abhinditv± aññattha na gami½su, tva½ pana kasm± ‘piº¹ap±to paritto l³kho’ti sapp±yasen±sana½ pariccaj²”ti vatv± tena y±cito at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te himavante gaªg±t²re ekasmi½ udumbaravane anekasatasahass± suk± vasi½su. Tatra eko suvar±j± attano niv±sarukkhassa phalesu kh²ºesu yadeva avasiµµha½ hoti aªkuro v± patta½ v± taco v± papaµik± v±, ta½ kh±ditv± gaªg±ya p±n²ya½ pivitv± paramappicchasantuµµho hutv± aññattha na gacchati. Tassa appicchasantuµµhabh±vaguºena sakkassa bhavana½ kampi. Sakko ±vajjam±no ta½ disv± tassa v²ma½sanattha½ attano ±nubh±vena ta½ rukkha½ sukkh±pesi. Rukkho kh±ºukamatto hutv± chidd±vachiddo v±te paharante ±koµiyam±no viya aµµh±si. Tassa chiddehi cuºº±ni nikkhamanti. Suvar±j± t±ni cuºº±ni kh±ditv± gaªg±ya p±n²ya½ pivitv± aññattha agantv± v±t±tapa½ agaºetv± udumbarakh±ºuke nis²di. Sakko tassa paramappicchabh±va½ ñatv± “mittadhammaguºa½ kath±petv± varamassa datv± udumbara½ amataphala½ karitv± ±gamiss±m²”ti eko ha½sar±j± hutv± suja½ asurakañña½ purato katv± ta½ udumbaravana½ gantv± avid³re ekarukkhassa s±kh±ya nis²ditv± tena saddhi½ katha½ samuµµh±pento paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
20. “Dumo yad± hoti phal³papanno, bhuñjanti na½ vihaªgam± sampatant±;
kh²ºanti ñatv±na duma½ phalaccaye, disodisa½ yanti tato vihaªgam±”ti.
Tassattho– suvar±ja, rukkho n±ma yad± phalasampanno hoti, tad± ta½ s±khato s±kha½ sampatant±va vihaªgam± bhuñjanti, ta½ pana kh²ºa½ ñatv± phal±na½ accayena tato rukkhato disodisa½ vihaªgam± gacchant²ti.
Evañca pana vatv± tato na½ uyyojetu½ dutiya½ g±tham±ha–
21. “Cara c±rika½ lohitatuº¹a m± mari, ki½ tva½ suva sukkhadumamhi jh±yasi;
tadiªgha ma½ br³hi vasantasannibha, kasm± suva sukkhaduma½ na riñcas²”ti.
Tattha jh±yas²ti ki½k±raº± sukkhakh±ºumatthake jh±yanto pajjh±yanto tiµµhasi. Iªgh±ti codanatthe nip±to. Vasantasannibh±ti vasantak±le vanasaº¹o suvagaºasamokiººo viya n²lobh±so hoti, tena ta½ “vasantasannibh±”ti ±lapati. Na riñcas²ti na cha¹¹esi.
Atha na½ suvar±j± “aha½ ha½sa attano kataññukatavedit±ya ima½ rukkha½ na jah±m²”ti vatv± dve g±th± abh±si–
22. “Ye ve sakh²na½ sakh±ro bhavanti, p±ºaccaye dukkhasukhesu ha½sa;
kh²ºa½ akh²ºampi na ta½ jahanti, santo sata½ dhammamanussarant±.
23. “Soha½ sata½ aññatarosmi ha½sa, ñ±t² ca me hoti sakh± ca rukkho;
ta½ nussahe j²vikattho pah±tu½, kh²ºanti ñatv±na na hesa dhammo”ti.
Tattha ye ve sakh²na½ sakh±ro bhavant²ti ye sah±y±na½ sah±y± honti. Kh²ºa½ akh²ºamp²ti paº¹it± n±ma attano sah±ya½ bhogaparikkhayena kh²ºampi akh²ºampi na jahanti. Sata½ dhammamanussarant±ti paº¹it±na½ paveºi½ anussaram±n±. ѱt² ca meti ha½sar±ja, aya½ rukkho sampiy±yanatthena mayha½ ñ±ti ca sam±ciººacaraºat±ya sakh± ca. J²vikatthoti tamaha½ j²vik±ya atthiko hutv± pah±tu½ na sakkomi.
Sakko tassa vacana½ sutv± tuµµho pasa½sitv± vara½ d±tuk±mo dve g±th± abh±si–
24. “S±dhu sakkhi kata½ hoti, metti sa½sati santhavo;
saceta½ dhamma½ rocesi, p±sa½sosi vij±nata½.
25. “So te suva vara½ dammi, pattay±na vihaªgama;
vara½ varassu vakkaªga, ya½ kiñci manasicchas²”ti.
Tattha s±dh³ti sampaha½sana½. Sakkhi kata½ hoti, metti sa½sati santhavoti sakhibh±vo ca metti ca parisamajjhe santhavo c±ti tay± mitta½ kata½ s±dhu hoti laddhaka½ bhaddakameva. Saceta½ dhammanti sace eta½ mittadhamma½. Vij±natanti eva½ sante viññ³na½ pasa½sitabbayuttakos²ti attho. So teti so aha½ tuyha½. Varass³ti icchassu. Ya½ kiñci manasicchas²ti ya½ kiñci manas± icchasi, sabba½ ta½ vara½ dad±mi teti.
Ta½ sutv± suvar±j± vara½ gaºhanto sattama½ g±tham±ha–
26. “Varañca me ha½sa bhava½ dadeyya, ayañca rukkho punar±yu½ labhetha;
so s±khav± phalim± sa½vir³¼ho, madhutthiko tiµµhatu sobham±no”ti.
Tattha s±khav±ti s±khasampanno. Phalim±ti phalena upeto. Sa½vir³¼hoti samantato vir³¼hapatto taruºapattasampanno hutv±. Madhutthikoti sa½vijjam±namadhuraphalesu pakkhittamadhu viya madhuraphalo hutv±ti attho.
Athassa sakko vara½ dadam±no aµµhama½ g±tham±ha–
27. “Ta½ passa samma phalima½ u¼±ra½, sah±va te hotu udumbarena;
so s±khav± phalim± sa½vir³¼ho, madhutthiko tiµµhatu sobham±no”ti.
Tattha sah±va te hotu udumbaren±ti tava udumbarena saddhi½ saha ekatova v±so hotu.
Evañca pana vatv± sakko ta½ attabh±va½ vijahitv± attano ca suj±ya ca ±nubh±va½ dassetv± gaªg±to hatthena udaka½ gahetv± udumbarakh±ºuka½ pahari. T±vadeva s±kh±viµapasacchanno madhuraphalo rukkho uµµhahitv± muº¹amaºipabbato viya vil±sasampanno aµµh±si. Suvar±j± ta½ disv± somanassappatto sakkassa thuti½ karonto navama½ g±tham±ha–
28. “Eva½ sakka sukh² hohi, saha sabbehi ñ±tibhi;
yath±hamajja sukhito, disv±na saphala½ duman”ti.
Sakkopi tassa vara½ datv± udumbara½ amataphala½ katv± saddhi½ suj±ya attano µh±nameva gato. Tamattha½ d²payam±n± os±ne abhisambuddhag±th± µhapit±–
29. “Suvassa ca vara½ datv±, katv±na saphala½ duma½;
pakk±mi saha bhariy±ya, dev±na½ nandana½ vanan”ti.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± “eva½ bhikkhu por±ºakapaº¹it± tiracch±nayoniya½ nibbatt±pi aloluppac±r± ahesu½. Tva½ pana kasm± evar³pe s±sane pabbajitv± loluppac±ra½ carasi, gaccha tattheva vas±h²”ti kammaµµh±namassa kathetv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi. So bhikkhu tattha gantv± vipassana½ va¹¹hento arahatta½ p±puºi. Tad± sakko anuruddho ahosi, suvar±j± pana ahameva ahosinti.
