Puthusaddoti ida½ satth± kosambi½ niss±ya ghosit±r±me viharanto kosambiya½ bhaº¹anak±rake bhikkh³ ±rabbha kathesi. Vatthu kosambakakkhandhake (mah±va. 451 ±dayo) ±gatameva, aya½ panettha saªkhepo. Tad± kira dve bhikkh³ ekasmi½ ±v±se vasi½su vinayadharo ca suttantiko ca. Tesu suttantiko ekadivasa½ sar²ravalañja½ katv± udakakoµµhake ±camana-udak±vasesa½ bh±jane µhapetv± nikkhami. Pacch± vinayadharo tattha paviµµho ta½ udaka½ disv± nikkhamitv± itara½ pucchi “±vuso, tay± udaka½ µhapitan”ti. “¾m±vuso”ti. “Ki½ panettha ±pattibh±va½ na j±n±s²”ti? “¾m±vuso na j±n±m²”ti. “Hoti, ±vuso, ettha ±patt²”ti? “Tena hi paµikariss±mi nan”ti. “Sace pana te, ±vuso, asañcicca asatiy± kata½, natthi ±patt²”ti. So tass± ±pattiy± an±pattidiµµhi ahosi. Vinayadharopi attano nissitak±na½ “aya½ suttantiko ±patti½ ±pajjam±nopi na j±n±t²”ti ±rocesi. Te tassa nissitake disv± “tumh±ka½ upajjh±yo ±patti½ ±pajjitv±pi ±pattibh±va½ na j±n±t²”ti ±ha½su. Te gantv± attano upajjh±yassa ±rocesu½. So evam±ha– “aya½ vinayadharo pubbe ‘an±patt²’ti vatv± id±ni ‘±patt²’ti vadati, mus±v±d² eso”ti. Te gantv± “tumh±ka½ upajjh±yo mus±v±d²”ti eva½ aññamañña½ kalaha½ va¹¹hayi½su. Tato vinayadharo ok±sa½ labhitv± tassa ±pattiy± adassanena ukkhepan²yakamma½ ak±si. Tato paµµh±ya tesa½ paccayad±yak± up±sak±pi dve koµµh±s± ahesu½. Ov±dapaµigg±hik± bhikkhuniyopi ±rakkhadevat±pi dve koµµh±s± ahesu½. T±sa½ sandiµµhasambhatt± ±k±saµµhadevat±pi y±va brahmalok± sabbe puthujjan± dve pakkh± ahesu½. N±ñña½ bhiyyo amaññarunti koci ekopi “aha½ b±lo”ti na maññittha, bhiyyo ca saªghasmi½ bhijjam±ne aññampi eka½ “mayha½ k±raº± saªgho bhijjat²”ti ida½ k±raºa½ na maññitth±ti attho.

Aµµhicchinn±ti aya½ g±th± brahmadattañca d²gh±vukum±rañca sandh±ya vutt±. Tesampi hoti saªgati. Kasm± tumh±ka½ na hoti? Yesa½ vo neva m±t±pit³na½ aµµh²ni chinn±ni, na p±º± haµ±, na gav±ssadhan±ni haµ±ni. Sace labheth±ti-±dig±th±yo paº¹itasah±yassa ca b±lasah±yassa ca vaºº±vaººad²panattha½ vutt±. Abhibhuyya sabb±ni parissay±n²ti sabbe p±kaµaparissaye ca paµicchannaparissaye ca abhibhavitv± tena saddhi½ attamano satim± careyya.
