Satth± pana ta½ bhikkhu½ “kasm±, tva½ bhikkhu, akkodhanassa buddhassa s±sane pabbajitv± kodha½ karosi, por±ºakapaº¹it± sar²re pah±rasahasse patante hatthap±dakaººan±s±su chijjam±n±su parassa kodha½ na kari½s³”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ kal±bu n±ma r±j± rajja½ k±resi. Tad± bodhisatto as²tikoµivibhave br±hmaºakule nibbattitv± kuº¹alakum±ro n±ma m±ºavo hutv± vayappatto takkasila½ gantv± sabbasipp±ni uggaºhitv± kuµumba½ saºµhapetv± m±t±pit³na½ accayena dhanar±si½ oloketv± “ima½ dhana½ upp±detv± mama ñ±tak± aggahetv±va gat±, may± paneta½ gahetv± gantu½ vaµµat²”ti sabba½ dhana½ viceyyad±navasena yo ya½ ±harati, tassa ta½ datv± himavanta½ pavisitv± pabbajitv± phal±phalena y±pento cira½ vasitv± loºambilasevanatth±ya manussapatha½ ±gantv± anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patv± r±juyy±ne vasitv± punadivase nagare bhikkh±ya caranto sen±patissa niv±sanadv±ra½ samp±puºi. Sen±pati tassa iriy±pathesu pas²ditv± ghara½ pavesetv± attano paµiy±ditabhojana½ bhojetv± paµiñña½ gahetv± tattheva r±juyy±ne vas±pesi.
Athekadivasa½ kal±bur±j± sur±madamatto chekan±µakaparivuto mahantena yasena uyy±na½ gantv± maªgalasil±paµµe sayana½ atthar±petv± ekiss± piyaman±p±ya itthiy± aªke sayi. G²tav±ditanaccesu chek± n±µakitthiyo g²t±d²ni payojesu½, sakkassa devarañño viya mah±sampatti ahosi, r±j± nidda½ okkami. Atha t± itthiyo “yassatth±ya maya½ g²t±d²ni payojay±ma, so nidda½ upagato, ki½ no g²t±d²h²”ti v²º±d²ni t³riy±ni tattha tattheva cha¹¹etv± uyy±na½ pakkant± pupphaphalapallav±d²hi palobhiyam±n± uyy±ne abhirami½su. Tad± bodhisatto tasmi½ uyy±ne supupphitas±lam³le pabbajj±sukhena v²tin±mento mattavarav±raºo viya nisinno hoti. Atha t± itthiyo uyy±ne caram±n± ta½ disv± “etha, ayy±yo, etasmi½ rukkham³le pabbajito nisinno, y±va r±j± na pabujjhati, t±vassa santike kiñci suºam±n± nis²diss±m±”ti gantv± vanditv± pariv±retv± nisinn± “amh±ka½ kathetabbayuttaka½ kiñci katheth±”ti vadi½su. Bodhisatto t±sa½ dhamma½ kathesi. Atha s± itth² aªka½ c±letv± r±j±na½ pabodhesi. R±j± pabuddho t± apassanto “kaha½ gat± vasaliyo”ti ±ha. Et±, mah±r±ja, gantv± eka½ t±pasa½ pariv±retv± nis²di½s³ti. R±j± kupito khagga½ gahetv± “sikkh±pess±mi na½ k³µajaµilan”ti vegena agam±si.
Atha t± itthiyo r±j±na½ kuddha½ ±gacchanta½ disv± t±su vallabhatar± gantv± rañño hatth± asi½ gahetv± r±j±na½ v³pasamesu½. So ±gantv± bodhisattassa santike µhatv± “ki½v±d² tva½, samaº±”ti pucchi. “Khantiv±d², mah±r±j±”ti. “K± es± khanti n±m±”ti? “Akkosantesu paribh±santesu paharantesu akujjhanabh±vo”ti. R±j± “passiss±mi d±ni te khantiy± atthibh±van”ti coragh±taka½ pakkos±pesi. So attano c±rittena pharasuñca kaºµakakasañca ±d±ya k±s±yanivasano rattam±l±dharo ±gantv± r±j±na½ vanditv± “ki½ karomi, dev±”ti ±ha. Ima½ cora½ duµµhat±pasa½ gahetv± ±ka¹¹hitv± bh³miya½ p±tetv± kaºµakakasa½ gahetv± purato ca pacchato ca ubhosu passesu c±ti cat³supi passesu dvepah±rasahassamassa deh²ti. So tath± ak±si Bodhisattassa chavi bhijji. Camma½ bhijji, ma½sa½ chijji, lohita½ paggharati.
Puna r±j± “ki½v±d² tva½ bhikkh³”ti ±ha. “Khantiv±d², mah±r±ja”. “Tva½ pana mayha½ cammantare khant²”ti maññasi, natthi mayha½ cammantare khanti, tay± pana daµµhu½ asakkuºeyye hadayabbhantare mama khanti patiµµhit±. “Mah±r±j±”ti. Puna coragh±tako “ki½ karom²”ti pucchi. “Imassa k³µajaµilassa ubho hatthe chind±”ti. So pharasu½ gahetv± gaº¹iya½ µhapetv± hatthe chindi. Atha na½ “p±de chind±”ti ±ha, p±depi chindi. Hatthap±dakoµ²hi ghaµachiddehi l±kh±raso viya lohita½ paggharati. Puna r±j± “ki½v±d²s²”ti pucchi. “Khantiv±d², mah±r±ja”. “Tva½ pana mayha½ hatthap±dakoµ²su ‘khanti atth²’ti maññasi, natthes± ettha, mayha½ khanti gambh²raµµh±ne patiµµhit±”ti. So “kaººan±samassa chind±”ti ±ha. Itaro kaººan±sa½ chindi, sakalasar²re lohita½ ahosi. Puna na½ “ki½v±d² n±ma tvan”ti pucchi. “Mah±r±ja, khantiv±d² n±ma”. “M± kho pana tva½ ‘kaººan±sikakoµ²su patiµµhit± khant²’ti maññasi, mama khanti gambh²re hadayabbhantare patiµµhit±”ti. R±j± “k³µajaµila tava khanti½ tvameva ukkhipitv± nis²d±”ti bodhisattassa hadaya½ p±dena paharitv± pakk±mi.
Tasmi½ gate sen±pati bodhisattassa sar²rato lohita½ puñchitv± hatthap±dakaººan±sakoµiyo s±µakakaººe katv± bodhisatta½ saºika½ nis²d±petv± vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²ditv± “sace, bhante, tumhe kujjhituk±m±, tumhesu kat±par±dhassa raññova kujjheyy±tha, m± aññesan”ti y±canto paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
49. “Yo te hatthe ca p±de ca, kaººan±sañca chedayi;
tassa kujjha mah±v²ra, m± raµµha½ vinas± idan”ti.
Tattha mah±v²r±ti mah±v²riya. M± raµµha½ vinas± idanti ida½ nirapar±dha½ k±siraµµha½ m± vin±sehi.

50. “Yo me hatthe ca p±de ca, kaººan±sañca chedayi;
cira½ j²vatu so r±j±, na hi kujjhanti m±dis±”ti.
Tattha m±dis±ti mama sadis± khantibalena samann±gat± paº¹it± “aya½ ma½ akkosi paribh±si pahari, chindi bhind²”ti ta½ na kujjhanti.
Rañño uyy±n± nikkhamantassa bodhisattassa cakkhupatha½ vijahanak±leyeva aya½ catunahut±dhik± dviyojanasatasahassabahal± mah±pathav² khalibaddhas±µako viya phalit±, av²cito j±l± nikkhamitv± r±j±na½ kuladattiyena rattakambalena p±rupant² viya gaºhi. So uyy±nadv±reyeva pathavi½ pavisitv± av²cimah±niraye patiµµhahi. Bodhisattopi ta½ divasameva k±lamak±si. R±japaris± ca n±gar± ca gandham±l±dh³mahatth± ±gantv± bodhisattassa sar²rakicca½ aka½su. Keci pan±hu “bodhisatto puna himavantameva gato”ti, ta½ abh³ta½.
51. “Ah³ at²tamaddh±na½, samaºo khantid²pano;
ta½ khantiy±yeva µhita½, k±sir±j± achedayi.
52. “Tassa kammapharusassa, vip±ko kaµuko ahu;
ya½ k±sir±j± vedesi, nirayamhi samappito”ti.–

Tattha at²tamaddh±nanti at²te addh±ne. Khantid²panoti adhiv±sanakhantisa½vaººano. Acheday²ti m±r±pesi. Ekacce pana “bodhisattassa puna hatthap±dakaººan±s± ghaµit±”ti vadanti, tampi abh³tameva. Samappitoti patiµµhito.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne kodhano bhikkhu an±g±miphale patiµµhahi, aññe bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puºi½su.
Tad± kal±bur±j± devadatto ahosi, sen±pati s±riputto, khantiv±d² t±paso pana ahameva ahosinti.
