Dhammo have hato hant²ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto devadattassa pathavipavesana½ ±rabbha kathesi. Tasmiñhi divase bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “±vuso, devadatto mus±v±da½ katv± pathavi½ paviµµho av²cipar±yaºo j±to”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi pathavi½ paviµµhoyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te paµhamakappe mah±sammato n±ma r±j± asaªkhyeyy±yuko ahosi. Tassa putto rojo n±ma, tassa putto vararojo n±ma, tassa putto kaly±ºo n±ma, kaly±ºassa putto varakaly±ºo n±ma, varakaly±ºassa putto uposatho n±ma, uposathassa putto vara-uposatho n±ma, vara-uposathassa putto mandh±t± n±ma, mandh±tussa putto varamandh±t± n±ma, varamandh±tussa putto varo n±ma, varassa putto upavaro n±ma ahosi, uparivarotipi tasseva n±ma½. So cetiyaraµµhe sotthiyanagare rajja½ k±resi, cat³hi r±jiddh²hi samann±gato ahosi uparicaro ±k±sag±m², catt±ro na½ devaputt± cat³su dis±su khaggahatth± rakkhanti, k±yato candanagandho v±yati, mukhato uppalagandho. Tassa kapilo n±ma br±hmaºo purohito ahosi. Kapilabr±hmaºassa pana kaniµµho korakalambo n±ma raññ± saddhi½ ek±cariyakule uggahitasippo b±lasah±yo. So tassa kum±rak±leyeva “aha½ rajja½ patv± tuyha½ purohitaµµh±na½ dass±m²”ti paµij±ni. So rajja½ patv± pitu purohita½ kapilabr±hmaºa½ purohitaµµh±nato c±vetu½ n±sakkhi. Purohite pana attano upaµµh±na½ ±gacchante tasmi½ g±ravena apacit±k±ra½ dassesi. Br±hmaºo ta½ sallakkhetv± “rajja½ n±ma samavayehi saddhi½ suparih±ra½ hoti, aha½ r±j±na½ ±pucchitv± pabbajiss±m²”ti cintetv± “deva, aha½ mahallako, gehe kum±rako atthi, ta½ purohita½ karohi, aha½ pabbajiss±m²”ti r±j±na½ anuj±n±petv± putta½ purohitaµµh±ne µhap±petv± r±juyy±na½ pavisitv± isipabbajja½ pabbajitv± jh±n±bhiññ±yo nibbattetv± putta½ niss±ya tattheva v±sa½ kappesi.
Korakalambo “aya½ pabbajantopi na mayha½ µh±nantara½ d±pes²”ti bh±tari ±gh±ta½ bandhitv± ekadivasa½ sukhakath±ya nisinnasamaye raññ± “korakalamba ki½ tva½ purohitaµµh±na½ na karos²”ti vutte “±ma, deva, na karomi, bh±t± me karot²”ti ±ha. “Nanu te bh±t± pabbajito”ti? “¾ma pabbajito, µh±nantara½ pana puttassa d±pes²”ti. “Tena hi tva½ karoh²”ti? “Deva, paveºiy± ±gata½ µh±nantara½ mama bh±tara½ apanetv± na sakk± may± k±tun”ti. “Eva½ sante aha½ ta½ mahallaka½ katv± bh±tara½ te kaniµµha½ kariss±m²”ti. “Katha½, dev±”ti? “Mus±v±da½ katv±”ti. “Ki½ deva, na j±n±tha, yad± mama bh±t± mahantena abbhutadhammena samann±gato vijj±dharo, so abbhutadhammena tumhe vañcessati, catt±ro devaputte antarahite viya karissati, k±yato ca mukhato ca sugandha½ duggandha½ viya karissati, tumhe ±k±s± ot±retv± bh³miya½ µhite viya karissati, tumhe pathavi½ pavisant± viya bhavissatha, tad± tumh±ka½ kath±ya patiµµh±tu½ na sakkhissath±”ti. “Tva½ eva½ sañña½ m± kari, aha½ k±tu½ sakkhiss±m²”ti. “Kad± karissatha, dev±”ti? “Ito sattame divase”ti. S± kath± sakalanagare p±kaµ± ahosi. “R±j± kira mus±v±da½ katv± mahallaka½ khuddaka½, khuddaka½ mahallaka½ karissati, µh±nantara½ khuddakassa d±pessati, k²diso nu kho mus±v±do n±ma, ki½ n²lako, ud±hu p²tak±d²su aññataravaººo”ti eva½ mah±janassa vitakko udap±di Tad± kira lokassa saccav±d²k±lo, “mus±v±do n±ma evar³po”ti na j±nanti.
Purohitaputtopi ta½ katha½ sutv± pitu santika½ gantv± kathesi “t±ta, r±j± kira mus±v±da½ katv± tumhe khuddake katv± amh±ka½ µh±nantara½ mama c³¼apitussa dassat²”ti. “T±ta, r±j± mus±v±da½ katv±pi amh±ka½ µh±nantara½ haritu½ na sakkhissati. Kataradivase pana karissat²”ti? “Ito kira sattame divase”ti. “Tena hi tad± mayha½ ±roceyy±s²”ti. Sattame divase mah±jan± “mus±v±da½ passiss±m±”ti r±jaªgaºe sannipatitv± mañc±timañce bandhitv± aµµha½su. Kum±ro gantv± pitu ±rocesi. R±j± alaªkatapaµiyatto nikkhamma mah±janamajjhe r±jaªgaºe ±k±se aµµh±si. T±paso ±k±sen±gantv± rañño purato nis²danacamma½ attharitv± ±k±se pallaªkena nis²ditv± “sacca½ kira tva½ mah±r±ja, mus±v±da½ katv± khuddaka½ mahallaka½ katv± tassa µh±nantara½ d±tuk±mos²”ti? “¾ma ±cariya, eva½ me kathitan”ti. Atha na½ so ovadanto “mah±r±ja, mus±v±do n±ma bh±riyo guºaparidha½sako cat³su ap±yesu nibbatt±peti. Tattha apakkamanti devat±ti mah±r±ja, sace alika½ bhaºissasi, catt±ro devaputt± ±rakkha½ cha¹¹etv± antaradh±yissant²ti adhipp±yeneta½ vadati. P³tikañca mukha½ v±t²ti mukhañca te k±yo ca ubho p³tigandha½ v±yissant²ti sandh±y±ha. Sakaµµh±n± ca dha½sat²ti ±k±sato bhassitv± pathavi½ pavisissas²ti d²pento evam±ha.
Ta½ sutv± r±j± bh²to korakalamba½ olokesi. Atha na½ so “m± bh±yi, mah±r±ja, nanu may± paµhamameva tumh±ka½ eta½ kathitan”ti ±ha. R±j± kapilassa vacana½ sutv±pi an±diyitv± attan± kathitameva purato karonto “tva½si, bhante, kaniµµho, korakalambo jeµµho”ti ±ha. Tasm±ti yasm± cetiyar±j± chand±gamanena av²cipar±yaºo j±to, tasm±. Aduµµhacittoti chand±d²hi ad³sitacitto hutv± saccameva bh±seyya.
Mah±jano “cetiyar±j± isi½ akkositv± mus±v±da½ katv± av²ci½ paviµµho”ti bhayappatto ahosi. Rañño pañca putt± ±gantv± br±hmaºassa p±desu patitv± “amh±ka½ avassayo hoh²”ti vadi½su. Br±hmaºo “t±t±, tumh±ka½ pit± dhamma½ n±setv± mus±v±da½ katv± isi½ akkositv± av²ci½ upapanno, dhammo n±mesa hato hanati, tumhehi na sakk± idha vasitun”ti vatv± tesu sabbajeµµhaka½ “ehi tva½, t±ta, p±c²nadv±rena nikkhamitv± ujuka½ gacchanto sabbaseta½ sattapatiµµha½ hatthiratana½ passissasi, t±ya saññ±ya tattha nagara½ m±petv± vasa, ta½ nagara½ hatthipura½ n±ma bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Dutiya½ ±mantetv± “tva½, t±ta, dakkhiºadv±rena nikkhamitv± ujukameva gacchanto sabbaseta½ assaratana½ passissasi, t±ya saññ±ya tattha nagara½ m±petv± vasa, ta½ nagara½ assapura½ n±ma bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Tatiya½ ±mantetv± “tva½, t±ta, pacchimadv±rena nikkhamitv± ujukameva gacchanto kesaras²ha½ passissasi, t±ya saññ±ya tattha nagara½ m±petv± vasa, ta½ nagara½ s²hapura½ n±ma bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Catuttha½ ±mantetv± “tva½, t±ta, uttaradv±rena nikkhamitv± ujukameva gacchanto sabbaratanamaya½ cakkapañjara½ passissasi, t±ya saññ±ya tattha nagara½ m±petv± vasa, ta½ nagara½ uttarapañc±la½ n±ma bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Pañcama½ ±mantetv± “t±ta, tay± imasmi½ µh±ne vasitu½ na sakk±, imasmi½ nagare mah±th³pa½ katv± nikkhamitv± pacchimuttar±ya dis±ya ujukameva gacchanto dve pabbate aññamañña½ paharitv± paharitv± daddarasadda½ karonte passissasi, t±ya saññ±ya tattha nagara½ m±petv± vasa, ta½ nagara½ daddarapura½ n±ma bhavissat²”ti ±ha. Te pañcapi jan± t±ya t±ya saññ±ya gantv± tasmi½ tasmi½ µh±ne nagar±ni m±petv± vasi½su.
