Od±tavatth± suci allakes±ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto aññatara½ m±tuposaka½ up±saka½ ±rabbha kathesi. So kira s±vatthiya½ kulad±rako ±c±rasampanno pitari k±lakate m±tudevato hutv± mukhadhovanadantakaµµhad±nanh±panap±dadhovan±diveyy±vaccakammena ceva y±gubhatt±d²hi ca m±tara½ paµijaggi. Atha na½ m±t± “t±ta, tava aññ±nipi ghar±v±sakicc±ni atthi, eka½ samaj±tika½ kulakum±rika½ gaºh±hi, s± ma½ posessati, tvampi attano kamma½ karissas²”ti ±ha. “Amma, aha½ attano hitasukha½ apacc±s²sam±no tumhe upaµµhah±mi, ko añño eva½ upaµµhahissat²”ti? “Kulava¹¹hanakamma½ n±ma t±ta, k±tu½ vaµµat²”ti. “Na mayha½ ghar±v±sena attho, aha½ tumhe upaµµhahitv± tumh±ka½ dh³mak±le pabbajiss±m²”ti. Athassa m±t± punappuna½ y±citv±pi mana½ alabham±n± tassa chanda½ aggahetv± samaj±tika½ kulakum±rika½ ±nesi. So m±tara½ appaµikkhipitv± t±ya saddhi½ sa½v±sa½ kappesi. S±pi “mayha½ s±miko mahantena uss±hena m±tara½ upaµµhahati, ahampi na½ upaµµhahiss±mi, evamassa piy± bhaviss±m²”ti cintetv± ta½ sakkacca½ upaµµhahi. So “aya½ me m±tara½ sakkacca½ upaµµhah²”ti tato paµµh±ya laddhaladdh±ni madhurakh±dan²y±d²ni tass±yeva deti. S± aparabh±ge cintesi “aya½ laddhaladdh±ni madhurakh±dan²y±d²ni mayhaññeva deti, addh± m±tara½ n²harituk±mo bhavissati, n²haraº³p±yamass± kariss±m²”ti eva½ ayoniso ummujjitv± eka½ divasa½ ±ha– “s±mi, tayi bahi nikkhamante tava m±t± ma½ akkosat²”ti. So tuºh² ahosi.
S± cintesi– “ima½ mahallika½ ujjh±petv± puttassa paµik³la½ k±ress±m²”ti. Tato paµµh±ya y±gu½ dadam±n± accuºha½ v± atis²tala½ v± atiloºa½ v± aloºa½ v± deti. “Amma, accuºh±”ti v± “atiloº±”ti v± vutte p³retv± s²todaka½ pakkhipati. Puna “atis²tal± aloº±yev±”ti vutte “id±neva ‘accuºh±, atiloº±’ti vatv± puna ‘atis²tal±, aloº±’ti vadasi, k± ta½ tosetu½ sakkhissat²”ti mah±sadda½ karoti. S± tassa vacana½ sutv± bh²t± cintesi “na sakk± ima½ m±tu antare bhinditu½, eka½senassa m±t± piy±, sace pan±ha½ kulaghara½ gamissa½, vidhavav±sa½ vasant² dukkhit± bhaviss±mi, purimanayeneva sassu½ ±r±dhetv± paµijaggiss±m²”ti S± tato paµµh±ya purimasadisameva ta½ paµijaggi. Athekadivasa½ so uposako dhammassavanatth±ya jetavana½ gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di. “Ki½, up±saka, tva½ puññakammesu na pamajjasi, m±tu-upaµµh±nakamma½ p³res²”ti ca vutto “±ma, bhante, s± pana mama m±t± mayha½ aruciy±yeva eka½ kulad±rika½ ±nesi, s± idañcidañca an±c±rakamma½ ak±s²”ti sabba½ satthu ±cikkhitv± “iti bhagav± s± itth² neva ma½ m±tu antare bhinditu½ sakkhi, id±ni na½ sakkacca½ upaµµhahat²”ti ±ha. Satth± tassa katha½ sutv± “id±ni t±va tva½ up±saka, tass± vacana½ na ak±si, pubbe panetiss± vacanena tava m±tara½ nikka¹¹hitv± ma½ niss±ya puna geha½ ±netv± paµijagg²”ti vatv± tena y±cito at²ta½ ±hari.

Itar± “mama kira nikka¹¹hitak±le putta½ labh²”ti sutv± cintesi “addh± imasmi½ loke dhammo mato bhavissati, sace hi dhammo mato na bhaveyya, m±tara½ pothetv± nikka¹¹hant± putta½ na labheyyu½, sukha½ na j²veyyu½, dhammassa matakabhatta½ dass±m²”ti. Bodhisatt± ca n±ma appamatt± honti, so tasmi½ khaºe loka½ olokento ta½ dukkhappatta½ “dhammo mato”ti saññ±ya dhammassa matakabhatta½ d±tuk±ma½ disv± “ajja mayha½ bala½ dassess±m²”ti br±hmaºavesena mah±magga½ paµipanno viya hutv± ta½ disv± magg± okkamma tass± santike µhatv± “amma, sus±ne ±h±ra½ pacant± n±ma natthi, tva½ imin± idha pakkena tilodanena ki½ karissas²”ti katha½ samuµµh±pento paµhama½ g±tham±ha–
1. “Od±tavatth± suci allakes±, kacc±ni ki½ kumbhimadhissayitv±;
piµµh± til± dhovasi taº¹ul±ni, tilodano hehiti kissahet³”ti.
Tattha kacc±n²ti ta½ gottena ±lapati. Kumbhimadhissayitv±ti pacanath±lika½ manussas²suddhana½ ±ropetv±. Hehit²ti aya½ tilodano kissa hetu bhavissati, ki½ attan± bhuñjissasi, ud±hu añña½ k±raºamatth²ti.

2. “Na kho aya½ br±hmaºa bhojanatth±, tilodano hehiti s±dhupakko;
dhammo mato tassa pahuttamajja, aha½ kariss±mi sus±namajjhe”ti.
Tattha dhammoti jeµµh±pac±yanadhammo ceva tividhasucaritadhammo ca. Tassa pahuttamajj±ti tass±ha½ dhammassa ida½ matakabhatta½ kariss±m²ti attho.

3. “Anuvicca kacc±ni karohi kicca½, dhammo mato ko nu taveva sa½si;
sahassanetto atul±nubh±vo, na miyyat² dhammavaro kad±c²”ti.
Tattha anuvicc±ti upaparikkhitv± j±nitv±. Ko nu taveva sa½s²ti ko nu tava eva½ ±cikkhi. Sahassanettoti att±na½ dhammavara½ uttamadhamma½ katv± dassento evam±ha.

4. “Da¼happam±ºa½ mama ettha brahme, dhammo mato natthi mamettha kaªkh±;
ye yeva d±ni p±p± bhavanti, te teva d±ni sukhit± bhavanti.
5. “Suºis± hi mayha½ vañjh± ahosi, s± ma½ vadhitv±na vij±yi putta½;
s± d±ni sabbassa kulassa issar±, aha½ panamhi apaviddh± ekik±”ti.
Tattha da¼happam±ºanti da¼ha½ thira½ nissa½saya½ br±hmaºa ettha mama pam±ºanti vadati. Ye yeti tassa matabh±ve k±raºa½ dassent² evam±ha. Vadhitv±n±ti pothetv± nikka¹¹hitv±. Apaviddh±ti cha¹¹it± an±th± hutv± ekik± vas±mi.

Tattha s± k±tiy±n²ti bhikkhave, s± kacc±nagott±. Dev±namindena adhiggah²t±ti devindena sakkena anuggahit± hutv± tass±nubh±vena samaggav±sa½ vasi½s³ti.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi, saccapariyos±ne so up±sako sot±pattiphale patiµµhahi. Tad± m±tuposako etarahi m±tuposako ahosi bhariy±pissa tad± bhariy±yeva, sakko pana ahameva ahosinti.
