Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepesa mama vadh±ya parisakki, t±samattampi pana k±tu½ asakkonto attan±va dukkha½ anubhos²”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.

Bodhisatto mant±nubh±vena tass± bh±sa½ j±nitv± sayanagabbh± nikkhamma v±tap±na½ vivaritv± “ko etth±”ti ±ha. “Aha½, deva, addhikamanusso”ti. “Up±han± te kuhin”ti? “Bh³miya½, dev±”ti. “Ukkhitv± olambetv± µhapeh²”ti. Ta½ sutv± siªg±l² bodhisattassa kujjhi.
Puna ekadivasa½ s± tatheva nagara½ p±visi. Tad± ceko mattamanusso “p±n²ya½ piviss±m²”ti pokkharaºi½ otaranto patitv± nimuggo nirass±so mari. Nivatth± panassa dve s±µak± niv±sanantare kah±paºasahassa½ aªguliy± ca muddik± atthi. Tad±pi s± puttake “ch±tamh±, amm±”ti viravante “t±t±, m± sadda½ karittha, etiss± pokkharaºiy± manusso mato, tassa idañcidañca atthi, so pana maritv± sop±neyeva nipanno, tumhe eta½ manussa½ kh±d±pess±m²”ti ±ha. Bodhisatto ta½ sutv± v±tap±na½ vivaritv± “s±l±ya ko atth²”ti vatv± ekenuµµh±ya “aha½, dev±”ti vutte “gaccha etiss± pokkharaºiy± matamanussassa s±µake ca kah±paºasahassañca aªgulimuddikañca gahetv± sar²ramassa yath± na uµµhahati, eva½ udake os²d±peh²”ti ±ha. Tatiyadivase eko sapattar±j± ±gantv± nagara½ pariv±resi. R±j± bodhisatta½ “gaccha, t±ta, tena saddhi½ yujjh±”ti ±ha. “May±, deva, eka½ diµµha½ atthi, gantu½ na visah±mi, j²vitantar±ya½ bh±y±m²”ti. “Mayha½ tayi mate v± amate v± ki½, gacch±heva tvan”ti? So “s±dhu, dev±”ti mah±satto parisa½ gahetv± sapattarañño µhitadv±rena anikkhamitv± añña½ dv±ra½ vivaritv± nikkhami. Tasmi½ gacchante sakalanagara½ tuccha½ viya ahosi. Sabbe teneva saddhi½ nikkhami½su. So ekasmi½ sabh±gaµµh±ne khandh±v±ra½ niv±setv± acchi. R±j± cintesi “upar±j± nagara½ tuccha½ katv± bala½ gahetv± pal±yi, sapattar±j±pi nagara½ pariv±retv± µhito, id±ni mayha½ j²vita½ natth²”ti. R±j± ca purohito ca phal±phalatth±ya gacchanti. Parantapad±so deviy± saddhi½ paººas±l±yameva hoti. Tatr±pi r±j±na½ paµicca deviy± kucchismi½ gabbho patiµµh±si. S± abhiºhasa½saggavasena parantapena saddhi½ aticari. S± ekadivasa½ parantapa½ ±ha “raññ± ñ±te neva tava, na mayha½ j²vita½ atthi, tasm± m±rehi nan”ti. “Katha½ m±rem²”ti? Athekadivasa½ purohitoyeva phal±phalatth±ya gantv± avid³re rañño nh±natitthas±mante eka½ rukkha½ ±ruyha phal±phala½ gaºh±ti. R±j± “nh±yiss±m²”ti parantapa½ khaggañca nh±nas±µakañca g±h±petv± nad²t²ra½ agam±si. Tattha na½ nh±nak±le pam±dam±panna½ “m±ress±m²”ti parantapo g²v±ya gahetv± khagga½ ukkhipi. tad± hi calit± s±kh±, manussena migena v±”ti.
Tattha p±panti l±maka½ aniµµha½ akanta½. Bhayanti cittutr±sabhayampi me ±gamissati, na sakk± n±gantu½. Ki½k±raº±? Tad± hi calit± s±kh± manussena migena v±ti na paññ±yati, tasm± tato ma½ bhaya½ ±gamissati.

Avid³reti n±tid³re ito katipayayojanamatthake vasantiy± bh²ruy± mayha½ br±hmaºiy± yo mama k±mo uppanno, so n³na ma½ kisañca paº¹uñca karissat²ti dasseti. “S±va s±kh±”ti imin± pana opamma½ dasseti, yath± s±kh± parantapa½ kisa½ paº¹u½ karoti, evanti attho.
