Tad± pana dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “±vuso, samm±sambuddho ñ±tak±na½ attha½ carat²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva, pubbepi tath±gato ñ±t²na½ attha½ cariyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto kapiyoniya½ nibbattitv± vayappatto ±rohapariº±hasampanno th±mabal³peto pañcahatthibalaparim±ºo as²tisahassakapigaºaparivuto himavantapadese vasati. Tattha gaªg±t²ra½ niss±ya s±kh±viµapasampanno sandacch±yo bahalapatto pabbatak³µa½ viya samuggato ambarukkho ahosi “nigrodharukkho”tipi vadanti. Tassa madhur±ni phal±ni dibbagandharas±ni mahant±ni mahantakumbhappam±º±ni. Tassa ekiss± s±kh±ya phal±ni thale patanti, ekiss± s±kh±ya gaªg±jale, dvinna½ s±kh±na½ phal±ni majjhe rukkham³le patanti. Bodhisatto kapigaºa½ ±d±ya tattha phal±ni kh±danto “ekasmi½ k±le imassa rukkhassa udake patita½ phala½ niss±ya amh±ka½ bhaya½ uppajjissat²”ti udakamatthake s±kh±ya ekaphalampi anavasesetv± pupphak±le ka¼±yamattak±lato paµµh±ya kh±d±peti ceva p±t±peti ca. Eva½ santepi as²tiv±narasahassehi adiµµha½ kipillikapuµapaµicchanna½ eka½ pakkaphala½ nadiya½ patitv± uddhañca adho ca j±la½ bandh±petv± udakak²¼a½ k²¼antassa b±r±ºasirañño uddha½j±le laggi. Rañño divasa½ k²¼itv± s±ya½ gamanasamaye kevaµµ± j±la½ ukkhipant± ta½ disv± “asukaphala½ n±m±”ti aj±nant± rañño dassesu½.

R±j± pabujjhitv± kapigaºa½ disv± manusse uµµh±petv± dhanuggahe pakkos±petv± “yath± ete phalakh±dak± v±nar± na pal±yanti, tath± te parikkhipitv± vijjhatha, sve amb±ni ceva v±narama½sañca kh±diss±m²”ti ±ha. Dhanuggah± “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± rukkha½ pariv±retv± sare sannayhitv± aµµha½su. Te disv± v±nar± maraºabhayabh²t± pal±yitu½ asakkont± mah±satta½ upasaªkamitv± “deva, ‘pal±yanamakkaµe vijjhiss±m±’ti rukkha½ pariv±retv± dhanuggah± µhit±, ki½ karom±”ti pucchitv± kampam±n± aµµha½su. Bodhisatto “m± bh±yittha, aha½ vo j²vita½ dass±m²”ti v±naragaºa½ samass±setv± ujuka½ uggatas±kha½ ±ruyha gaªg±bhimukha½ gatas±kha½ gantv± tass± pariyantato pakkhanditv± dhanusatamatta½ µh±na½ atikkamma gaªg±t²re ekasmi½ gumbamatthake patitv± tato oruyha “mam±gataµµh±na½ ettaka½ bhavissat²”ti ±k±sa½ paricchinditv± eka½ vettalata½ m³le chinditv± sodhetv± “ettaka½ µh±na½ rukkhe bajjhissati, ettaka½ ±k±saµµha½ bhavissat²”ti im±ni dve µh±n±ni vavatthapetv± attano kaµiya½ bandhanaµµh±na½ na sallakkhesi.
So ta½ lata½ ±d±ya eka½ koµi½ gaªg±t²re patiµµhitarukkhe bandhitv± eka½ attano kaµiya½ bandhitv± v±tacchinnaval±hako viya vegena dhanusatamatta½ µh±na½ laªghitv± kaµiya½ bandhanaµµh±nassa asallakkhitatt± rukkha½ p±puºitu½ asakkonto ubhohi hatthehi ambas±kha½ da¼ha½ gaºhitv± v±naragaºassa saññamad±si “s²gha½ mama piµµhi½ maddam±n± vettalat±ya sotthigamana½ gacchath±”ti. As²tisahassav±nar± mah±satta½ vanditv± kham±petv± tath± agama½su. Tad± devadattopi makkaµo hutv± tesa½ abbhantare hoti. So “aya½ me pacc±mittassa piµµhi½ passitu½ k±lo”ti ucca½ s±kha½ ±ruyha vega½ janetv± tassa piµµhiya½ pati. Mah±sattassa hadaya½ bhijji, balavavedan± uppajji. Sopi ta½ vedan±ppatta½ katv± pakk±mi. Mah±satto ekakova ahosi. R±j± anidd±yanto v±narehi ca mah±sattena ca katakiriya½ sabba½ disv± “aya½ tiracch±no hutv± attano j²vita½ agaºetv± paris±ya sotthibh±vameva ak±s²”ti cintento nipajji.
So pabh±t±ya rattiy± mah±sattassa tussitv± “na yutta½ ima½ kapir±j±na½ n±setu½, up±yena na½ ot±retv± paµijaggiss±m²”ti antogaªg±ya n±v±saªgh±µa½ µhapetv± tattha aµµaka½ bandh±petv± saºika½ mah±satta½ ot±r±petv± piµµhiya½ k±s±vavattha½ patthar±petv± gaªgodakena nh±petv± ph±ºitodaka½ p±yetv± parisuddhasar²ra½ sahassap±katelena abbhañj±petv± sayanapiµµhe e¼akacamma½ santhar±petv± saºika½ tattha nipajj±petv± attan± n²ce ±sane nis²ditv± paµhama½ g±tham±ha–

Tassattho ambho mah±kapi, yo tva½ att±na½ saªkama½ katv± tula½ ±ropetv± j²vita½ pariccajitv± ime v±nare sotthi½ samat±rayi, khemena sant±resi; ki½ tva½ tesa½ hosi, kime tuyha½ v± ki½su ete hont²ti?

86. “Chinnabbhamiva v±tena, nuººo rukkha½ up±gami½;
soha½ appabhava½ tattha, s±kha½ hatthehi aggahi½.
87. “Ta½ ma½ viy±yata½ santa½, s±kh±ya ca lat±ya ca;
samanukkamant± p±dehi, sotthi½ s±kh±mig± gat±.
88. “Ta½ ma½ na tapate bandho, mato me na tapessati;
sukham±harita½ tesa½, yesa½ rajjamak±rayi½.
89. “Es± te upam± r±ja, ta½ suºohi arindama;
raññ± raµµhassa yoggassa, balassa nigamassa ca;
sabbesa½ sukhameµµhabba½, khattiyena paj±nat±”ti.
Tattha tesanti tesa½ as²tisahass±na½ v±nar±na½. Bh²t±na½ teti tava vijjhanatth±ya ±º±petv± µhitassa bh²t±na½. Arindam±ti r±j±na½ ±lapati. R±j± hi cor±d²na½ ar²na½ damanato “arindamo”ti vuccati. Vissaµµhadhanuno satanti an±ropitadhanusatappam±ºa½ µh±na½ att±na½ ±k±se ullaªghayitv± vissajjetv± tato imamh± rukkh± laªghayitv± gataµµh±nato. Aparap±des³ti pacch±p±desu. Ida½ kaµibh±ga½ sandh±ya vutta½. Bodhisatto hi kaµibh±ge ta½ lat±guºa½ da¼ha½ bandhitv± pacchimap±dehi bh³miya½ akkamitv± vissajjetv± v±tavegena ±k±sa½ pakkhandi. Nuººo rukkha½ up±gaminti v±tacchinna½ abbhamiva attano vegajanitena v±tena nuººo. Yath± v±tacchinnabbha½ v±tena, eva½ attano vegena nuººo hutv± ima½ ambarukkha½ up±gami½ Appabhavanti so aha½ tattha ±k±sappadese rukkha½ p±puºitu½ appahonto tassa rukkhassa s±kha½ hatthehi aggahesinti attho.
Viy±yatanti rukkhas±kh±ya ca vettalat±ya ca v²º±ya bhamaratanti viya vitata½ ±ka¹¹hitasar²ra½. Samanukkamant±ti may± anuññ±t± ma½ vanditv± p±dehi anukkamant± nirantarameva akkamant± sotthi½ gat±. Ta½ ma½ na tapate bandhoti ta½ ma½ n±pi so valliy± bandho tapati, n±pi id±ni maraºa½ tapessati. Ki½k±raº±? Sukham±harita½ tesanti yasm± yesa½ aha½ rajjamak±rayi½, tesa½ may± sukham±harita½. Ete hi “mah±r±ja, aya½ no uppanna½ dukkha½ haritv± sukha½ ±harissat²”ti ma½ r±j±na½ aka½su. Ahampi “tumh±ka½ uppanna½ dukkha½ hariss±mi”cceva etesa½ r±j± j±to. Ta½ ajja may± etesa½ maraºadukkha½ haritv± j²vitasukha½ ±haµa½, tena ma½ n±pi bandho tapati, na maraºavadho tapessati.
Es± te upam±ti es± te mah±r±ja, may± katakiriy±ya upam±. Ta½ suºoh²ti tasm± im±ya upam±ya sa½sandetv± attano diyyam±na½ ov±da½ suº±hi. R±j± amacce pakkos±petv± “imassa kapir±jassa r±j³na½ viya sar²rakicca½ karoth±”ti vatv± itth±g±rampi ±º±pesi “tumhe rattavatthanivatth± vikiººakes± daº¹ad²pikahatth± kapir±j±na½ pariv±retv± ±¼±hana½ gacchath±”ti.
