Yattha ver² nivasat²ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto devadattassa pathavipavesana½ ±rabbha kathesi. Tasmiñhi pathavi½ paviµµhe dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “±vuso, devadatto saha paris±ya naµµho”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±neva devadatto saha paris±ya naµµho, pubbepi nassiyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ºasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto kapiyoniya½ nibbattitv± pañcasatakapipariv±ro r±juyy±ne vasi. Devadattopi kapiyoniya½ nibbattitv± pañcasatakapipariv±ro tattheva vasi. Athekadivasa½ purohite uyy±na½ gantv± nhatv± alaªkaritv± nikkhamante eko lolakapi puretara½ gantv± r±juyy±nadv±re toraºamatthake nis²ditv± tassa matthake vaccapiº¹a½ p±tetv± puna uddha½ olokentassa mukhe p±tesi. So nivattitv± “hotu, j±niss±mi tumh±ka½ kattabban”ti makkaµe santajjetv± puna nhatv± pakk±mi. Tena vera½ gahetv± makkaµ±na½ santajjitabh±va½ bodhisattassa ±rocesu½. So “ver²na½ nivasanaµµh±ne n±ma vasitu½ na vaµµati, sabbopi kapigaºo pal±yitv± aññattha gacchat³”ti kapisahassassapi ±roc±pesi. Dubbacakapi attano pariv±ramakkaµe gahetv± “pacch± j±niss±m²”ti tattheva nis²di. Bodhisatto attano pariv±ra½ gahetv± arañña½ p±visi. Athekadivasa½ ekiss± v²hikoµµik±ya d±siy± ±tape pas±ritav²hi½ kh±danto eko e¼ako ummukkena pah±ra½ labhitv± ±dittasar²ro pal±yanto ekiss± hatthis±la½ niss±ya tiºakuµiy± kuµµe sar²ra½ gha½si So aggi tiºakuµika½ gaºhi, tato uµµh±ya hatthis±la½ gaºhi, hatthis±l±ya hatth²na½ piµµhi jh±yi, hatthivejj± hatth²na½ paµijagganti.
Purohitopi makkaµ±na½ gahaº³p±ya½ upadh±rento vicarati. Eko pana jeµµhakamakkaµo pal±yanto sarapah±ra½ labhitv±pi tattheva apatitv± bodhisattassa vasanaµµh±na½ patv± pati. V±nar± “amh±ka½ vasanaµµh±na½ patv± mato”ti tassa pah±ra½ laddh± matabh±va½ bodhisattassa ±rocesu½. So gantv± kapigaºamajjhe nisinno “paº¹it±na½ ov±da½ akatv± veriµµh±ne vasant± n±ma eva½ vinassant²”ti kapigaºassa ov±davasena im± g±th± abh±si–

Tattha lahucittass±ti lahucitto assa. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– yo poso lahucittassa mittassa v± ñ±tino v± anuvidh²yati anuvattati, tassa posassa anuvidh²yato so lahucitto diso hoti, verikicca½ karoti. Ekassa kapinoti passatha ekassa lahucittassa andhab±lassa kapino hetu aya½ sakalassa y³thassa anayo avu¹¹hi mah±vin±so katoti. Paº¹itam±n²ti yo saya½ b±lo hutv± “aha½ paº¹ito”ti att±na½ maññam±no paº¹it±na½ ov±da½ akatv± sakassa cittassa vasa½ gacchati, so sacittassa vasa½ gantv± yath±ya½ dubbacakapi matasayana½ sayito, eva½ sayeth±ti attho.
Na s±dh³ti b±lo n±ma balasampanno y³thassa parih±rako na s±dhu na laddhako. Ki½k±raº±? So hi ahito bhavati ñ±t²na½, vin±sameva vahati. Sakuº±na½va cetakoti yath± hi tittirasakuº±na½ d²pakatittiro divasampi vassanto aññe sakuºe na m±reti, ñ±takeva m±reti, tesaññeva ahito hoti, evanti attho. Hito bhavat²ti k±yenapi v±c±yapi manas±pi hitak±rakoyeva. Ubhinnamattha½ carat²ti yo idha puggalo ete s²l±dayo guºe attani passati, so “mayha½ ±c±ras²lampi atthi, paññ±pi sutapariyattipi atth²”ti tathato j±nitv± gaºa½ pariharanto attano ca paresañca att±na½ pariv±retv± carant±nanti ubhinnampi atthameva carati.
Tuleyya matt±nanti tuleyya att±na½. Tuleyy±ti tuletv±. S²lapaññ±sut±miv±ti et±ni s²l±d²ni viya. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– yasm± s²l±d²ni attani samanupassanto ubhinnamattha½ carati, tasm± paº¹ito et±ni s²l±d²ni viya att±nampi tesu tuletv± “patiµµhito nu khomhi s²le paññ±ya sute”ti t²retv± patiµµhitabh±va½ paccakkha½ katv± dh²ro gaºa½ v± parihareyya, cat³su iriy±pathesu eko v± hutv± paribbajeyya vatteyya, parisupaµµh±kenapi vivekac±rin±pi imehi t²hi dhammehi samann±gateneva bhavitabbanti. Eva½ mah±satto kapir±j± hutv±pi vinayapariyattikicca½ kathesi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± dubbacakapi devadatto ahosi, paris±pissa devadattaparis±, paº¹itakapir±j± pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
