Kimatthamabhisandh±y±ti ida½ satth± jetavane viharanto eka½ lolamakkaµa½ ±rabbha kathesi. S±vatthiya½ kira ekasmi½ kule eko pos±vaniyalolamakkaµo hatthis±la½ gantv± ekassa s²lavantassa hatthissa piµµhiya½ nis²ditv± ucc±rapass±va½ karoti, piµµhiya½ caŖkamati. Hatth² attano s²lavantat±ya khantisampad±ya na kińci karoti. Athekadivasa½ tassa hatthissa µh±ne ańńo duµµhahatthipoto aµµh±si. Makkaµo “soyeva ayan”ti sańń±ya duµµhahatthissa piµµhi½ abhiruhi. Atha na½ so soŗ¹±ya gahetv± bh³miya½ µhapetv± p±dena akkamitv± sańcuŗŗesi. S± pavatti bhikkhusaŖghe p±kaµ± j±t±. Athekadivasa½ bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “±vuso, lolamakkaµo kira s²lavantahatthisańń±ya duµµhahatthipiµµhi½ abhiruhi, atha na½ so j²vitakkhaya½ p±pes²”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, id±nevesa, lolamakkaµo eva½s²lo, por±ŗato paµµh±ya eva½s²loyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te b±r±ŗasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente bodhisatto himavantapadese mahi½sayoniya½ nibbattitv± vayappatto th±masampanno mah±sar²ro pabbatap±dapabbh±ragiriduggavanaghaµesu vicaranto eka½ ph±suka½ rukkham³la½ disv± gocara½ gahetv± div± tasmi½ rukkham³le aµµh±si. Atheko lolamakkaµo rukkh± otaritv± tassa piµµhi½ abhiruhitv± ucc±rapass±va½ katv± siŖge gaŗhitv± olambanto naŖguµµhe gahetv± dol±yantova k²¼i. Bodhisatto khantimett±nuddayasampad±ya ta½ tassa an±c±ra½ na manas±k±si, makkaµo punappuna½ tatheva kari. Athekadivasa½ tasmi½ rukkhe adhivatth± devat± rukkhakkhandhe µhatv± na½ “mahi½sar±ja kasm± imassa duµµhamakkaµassa avam±na½ sahasi, nisedhehi nan”ti vatv± etamattha½ pak±sent² purim± dve g±th± avoca–
82. “Kimatthamabhisandh±ya, lahucittassa dubbhino;
sabbak±madadasseva, ima½ dukkha½ titikkhasi.
83. “SiŖgena nihan±heta½, padas± ca adhiµµhaha;
bhiyyo b±l± pakujjheyyu½, no cassa paµisedhako”ti.
Tattha kimatthamabhisandh±y±ti ki½ nu kho k±raŗa½ paµicca ki½ sampassam±no. Dubbhinoti mittadubbhissa. Sabbak±madadassev±ti sabbak±madadassa s±mikassa iva. Titikkhas²ti adhiv±sesi. Padas± ca adhiµµhah±ti p±dena ca na½ tiŗhakhuraggena yath± ettheva marati, eva½ akkama. Bhiyyo b±l±ti sace hi paµisedhako na bhaveyya, b±l± ańń±ŗasatt± punappuna½ kujjheyyu½ ghaµµeyyu½ viheµheyyu½ ev±ti d²peti.
Ta½ sutv± bodhisatto “rukkhadevate, sac±ha½ imin± j±tigottabal±d²hi adhiko sam±no imassa dosa½ na sahiss±mi, katha½ me manoratho nipphatti½ gamissati. Aya½ pana ma½ viya ańńampi mańńam±no eva½ an±c±ra½ karissati, tato yesa½ caŗ¹amahi½s±na½ esa eva½ karissati eteyeva eta½ vadhissanti. S± tassa ańńehi m±raŗ± mayha½ dukkhato ca p±ŗ±tip±tato ca vimutti bhavissat²”ti vatv± tatiya½ g±tham±ha–
84. “Mamev±ya½ mańńam±no, ańńepeva½ karissati;
te na½ tattha vadhissanti, s± me mutti bhavissat²”ti.
Katip±haccayena pana bodhisatto ańńattha gato. Ańńo caŗ¹amahi½so tattha ±gantv± aµµh±si. Duµµhamakkaµo “soyeva ayan”ti sańń±ya tassa piµµhi½ abhiruhitv± tatheva an±c±ra½ cari. Atha na½ so vidhunanto bh³miya½ p±tetv± siŖgena hadaye vijjhitv± p±dehi madditv± sańcuŗŗesi.
Satth± ima½ dhammadesana½ ±haritv± sacc±ni pak±setv± j±taka½ samodh±nesi– “tad± duµµhamahi½so aya½ duµµhahatth² ahosi, duµµhamakkaµo etarahi aya½ makkaµo, s²lav± mahi½sar±j± pana ahameva ahosin”ti.
