Sopi purimabuddhesu kat±dhik±ro tattha tattha bhave vivaµµ³panissaya½ kusala½ upacinanto ito ekanavute kappe buddhasuññe loke br±hmaºakule nibbattitv± vayappatto br±hmaºasippesu nipphatti½ gantv± k±mesu ±d²nava½ disv± ghar±v±sa½ pah±ya t±pasapabbajja½ pabbajitv± himavantappadese paººakuµi½ katv± v±sa½ kappesi. Tassa vasanaµµh±nassa avid³re ekasmi½ pabbh±re paccekabuddho ±b±dhiko hutv± parinibb±yi, tassa parinibb±nasamaye mah± ±loko ahosi. Ta½ disv± so, “katha½ nu kho aya½ ±loko uppanno”ti v²ma½sanavasena ito cito ca ±hiº¹anto pabbh±re paccekasambuddha½ parinibbuta½ disv± gandhad±r³ni sa½ka¹¹hitv± sar²ra½ jh±petv± gandhodakena upasiñci. Tattheko devaputto antalikkhe µhatv± evam±ha– “s±dhu, s±dhu, sappurisa, bahu½ tay± puñña½ pasavantena p³rita½ sugatisa½vattaniya½ kamma½ tena tva½ sugat²suyeva uppajjissasi, ‘puººo’ti ca te n±ma½ bhavissat²”ti. So tena puññakammena devamanussesu sa½saranto imasmi½ buddhupp±de sun±parantajanapade supp±rakapaµµane gahapatikule nibbatti, puººotissa n±ma½ ahosi. So vayappatto v±ºijjavasena mahat± satthena saddhi½ s±vatthi½ gato. Tena ca samayena bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati. Atha so s±vatthiv±s²hi up±sakehi saddhi½ vih±ra½ gato satthu santike dhamma½ sutv± paµiladdhasaddho pabbajitv± vattapaµivattehi ±cariyupajjh±ye ±r±dhento vih±si. So ekadivasa½ satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv±, “s±dhu ma½, bhante bhagav±, sa½khittena ov±dena ovadatu, yamaha½ sutv± sun±parantajanapade vihareyyan”ti ±ha. Tassa bhagav±, “santi kho, puººa, cakkhuviññeyy± r³p±”ti-±din± (ma. ni. 3.395; sa½. ni. 4.88) ov±da½ datv± s²han±da½ nad±petv± vissajjesi. So bhagavanta½ vanditv± sun±parantajanapada½ gantv± supp±rakapaµµane viharanto samathavipassana½ ussukk±petv± tisso vijj± sacch±k±si. Tena vutta½ apad±ne (apa. thera 1.41.29-44)–
“Pabbh±rak³µa½ niss±ya, sayambh³ apar±jito;
±b±dhiko ca so buddho, vasati pabbatantare.
“Mama assamas±mant±, pan±do ±si t±vade;
buddhe nibb±yam±namhi, ±loko udapajjatha.
“Y±vat± vanasaº¹asmi½, acchakokataracchak±;
v±¼± ca kesar² sabbe, abhigajji½su t±vade.
“Upp±ta½ tamaha½ disv±, pabbh±ra½ agam±saha½;
tatthaddas±si½ sambuddha½, nibbuta½ apar±jita½.
“Suphulla½ s±lar±ja½va, satara½si½va uggata½;
v²taccika½va aªg±ra½, nibbuta½ apar±jita½.
“Tiºa½ kaµµhañca p³retv±, citaka½ tatthak±saha½;
citaka½ sukata½ katv±, sar²ra½ jh±payi½ aha½.
“Sar²ra½ jh±payitv±na, gandhatoya½ samokiri½;
antalikkhe µhito yakkho, n±mamaggahi t±vade.
“Ya½ p³rita½ tay± kicca½, sayambhussa mahesino;
puººako n±ma n±mena, sad± hohi tuva½ mune.
“Tamh± k±y± cavitv±na, devaloka½ agacchaha½;
tattha dibbamayo gandho, antalikkh± pavassati.
“Tatr±pi n±madheyya½ me, puººakoti ah³ tad±;
devabh³to manusso v±, saªkappa½ p³ray±maha½.
“Ida½ pacchimaka½ mayha½, carimo vattate bhavo;
idh±pi puººako n±ma, n±madheyya½ pak±sati.
“Tosayitv±na sambuddha½, gotama½ sakyapuªgava½;
sabb±save pariññ±ya, vihar±mi an±savo.
“Ekanavutito kappe, ya½ kammamakari½ tad±;
duggati½ n±bhij±n±mi, tanukiccassida½ phala½.
“Kiles± jh±pit± mayha½…pe… kata½ buddhassa s±sanan”ti;
arahatta½ pana patv± thero bah³ manusse s±sane abhippas±desi; yato pañcasatamatt± puris± up±sakatta½ pañcasatamatt± ca itthiyo up±sik±bh±va½ paµivedesu½; so tattha rattacandanena candanam±¼a½ n±ma gandhakuµi½ k±r±petv±, “satth± pañcahi bhikkhusatehi saddhi½ m±¼a½ paµicchat³”ti bhagavanta½ pupphad³tena nimantesi bhagav± ca iddh±nubh±vena tattakehi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ tattha gantv± candanam±¼a½ paµiggahetv± aruºe anuµµhiteyeva pacc±gam±si; thero aparabh±ge parinibb±nasamaye añña½ by±karonto–

manussesu ca devesu, s²lapaññ±ºato jayan”ti.– G±tha½ abh±si.
Tattha s²lanti s²lanaµµhena s²la½, patiµµh±naµµhena sam±dh±naµµhena c±ti attho. S²lañhi sabbaguº±na½ patiµµh±, ten±ha– “s²le patiµµh±ya naro sapañño”ti (sa½. ni. 1.23; peµako. 22; visuddhi. 1.1). Sam±dahati ca ta½ k±yav±c±-avippakiººa½ karot²ti attho. Tayida½ s²lameva agga½ sabbaguº±na½ m³labh±vato pamukhabh±vato ca. Yath±ha– “tasm±tiha, tva½ bhikkhu, ±dimeva visodhehi kusalesu dhammesu. Ko c±di kusal±na½ dhamm±na½ s²lañca suvisuddhan”ti (sa½. ni. 5.369), “p±timokkhanti mukhameta½ pamukhametan”ti (mah±va. 135) ca ±di. Idh±ti nip±tamatta½. Paññav±ti ñ±ºasampanno. So uttamo seµµho pavaroti puggal±dhiµµh±n±ya g±th±ya paññ±yayeva seµµhabh±va½ dasseti. Paññuttar± hi kusal± dhamm±. Id±ni ta½ s²lapaññ±na½ aggaseµµhabh±va½ k±raºato dasseti “manussesu ca devesu, s²lapaññ±ºato jayan”ti ca. S²lapaññ±ºahetu paµipakkhajayo k±makilesajayo hot²ti attho.
