Ayampi purimabuddhesu katt±dhik±ro tattha tattha puññ±ni upacinanto ito catunavute kappe siddhattha½ bhagavanta½ passitv± pasannam±naso savaºµ±ni pupph±ni kaººikabaddh±ni gahetv± p³jesi. So tena puññakammena devaloke nibbattitv± apar±para½ puññ±ni katv± sugat²suyeva parivattento imasmi½ buddhupp±de r±jagahe kulagehe nibbatti. Tassa j±tak±lato paµµh±ya ta½ kula½ dhanadhaññ±d²hi va¹¹hi, attabh±vo cassa abhir³po dassan²yo guºav± iti vibhavasamiddhiy± ca guºasamiddhiy± ca samiddh²tveva paññ±yittha. So bimbis±rasam±game buddh±nubh±va½ disv± paµiladdhasaddho pabbajitv± bh±van±ya yuttappayutto viharanto bhagavati tapod±r±me viharante ekadivasa½ eva½ cintesi– “l±bh± vata me satth± araha½ samm±sambuddho, sv±kkh±te c±ha½ dhammavinaye pabbajito, sabrahmac±r² ca me s²lavanto kaly±ºadhamm±”ti. Tasseva½ cintentassa u¼±ra½ p²tisomanassa½ udap±di. Ta½ asahanto m±ro p±pim± therassa avid³re mahanta½ bheravasaddamak±si, pathaviy± undriyanak±lo viya ahosi. Thero bhagavato tamattha½ ±rocesi. Bhagav± “m±ro tuyha½ vicakkhukamm±ya ceteti, gaccha, bhikkhu tattha acintetv± vihar±h²”ti ±ha. Thero tattha gantv± viharanto nacirasseva vipassana½ ussukk±petv± arahatta½ p±puºi. Tena vutta½ apad±ne (apa. thera 1.21.30-34)–
“Kaºik±ra½va jotanta½, nisinna½ pabbatantare;
obh±senta½ dis± sabb±, siddhattha½ naras±rathi½.
“Dhanu½ advejjha½ katv±na, usu½ sannayhaha½ tad±;
puppha½ savaºµa½ chetv±na, buddhassa abhiropayi½.
“Catunnavutito kappe, ya½ pupphamabhiropayi½;
duggati½ n±bhij±n±mi, buddhap³j±yida½ phala½.
“Ekapaññ±sito kappe, eko ±si½ jutindharo;
sattaratanasampanno, cakkavatt² mahabbalo.
“Kiles± jh±pit± mayha½…pe… kata½ buddhassa s±sanan”ti;
arahatta½ pana patv± tattheva viharantassa therassa kh²º±savabh±va½ aj±nanto purimanayeneva m±ro mahanta½ bheravasadda½ ak±si; ta½ sutv± thero abh²to acchambh² “t±dis±na½ m±r±na½ satampi sahassampi mayha½ lomampi na kampet²”ti añña½ by±karonto “saddh±y±ha½ pabbajito”ti g±tha½ abh±si;
46. tattha saddh±y±ti dhammacchandasamuµµh±n±ya kammaphalasaddh±ya ceva ratanattayasaddh±ya ca; ahanti att±na½ niddisati; pabbajitoti upagato; ag±rasm±ti gehato ghar±v±sato v±; anag±riyanti pabbajja½, s± hi ya½kiñci kasiv±ºijj±dikamma½ ‘ag±rassa hitan’ti ag±riya½ n±ma, tadabh±vato “anag±riy±”ti vuccati; sati paññ± ca me vu¹¹h±ti saraºalakkhaº± sati, paj±nanalakkhaº± paññ±ti ime dhamm± vipassan±kkhaºato paµµh±ya maggapaµip±µiy± y±va arahatt± me vu¹¹h± va¹¹hit±, na d±ni va¹¹hetabb± atthi satipaññ± vepullappatt±ti dasseti; cittañca susam±hitanti aµµhasam±pattivasena ceva lokuttarasam±dhivasena ca citta½ me suµµhu sam±hita½, na d±ni tassa sam±dh±tabba½ atthi, sam±dhi vepullappattoti dasseti; tasm± k±ma½ karassu r³p±n²ti p±pima ma½ uddissa y±ni k±nici vippak±r±ni yath±ruci½ karohi, tehi pana neva ma½ by±dhayissasi mama sar²rakampanamattampi k±tu½ na sakkhissasi, kuto cittaññathatta½? Tasm± tava kiriy± appaµicchitapahenaka½ viya na kiñci attha½ sodheti, kevala½ tava cittavigh±tamattaphal±ti thero m±ra½ tajjesi; ta½ sutv± m±ro “j±n±ti ma½ samaºo”ti tatthevantaradh±yi;
