Up±yakusalen±ti vineyy±na½ daman³p±yacchekena kovidena buddhena bhagavat± hetubh³tena. Hetu-atthe hi eta½ karaŗavacana½. Paluµµhamakkaµ²devacchar±dassanena hi upakkitav±dacodan±ya attano k±mar±g±panayana½ sandh±ya vadati. Bhagav± hi ±yasmanta½ nandatthera½ paµhama½ janapadakaly±ŗi½ up±d±ya “yath±ya½ makkaµ², eva½ kakuµap±diniyo up±d±ya janapadakaly±ŗ²”ti mahatiy± ±ŗiy± khuddaka½ ±ŗi½ n²haranto cha¹¹ako viya, sinehap±nena sar²ra½ kiledetv± vamanavirecanehi dosa½ n²haranto bhisakko viya ca kakuµap±dinidassanena janapadakaly±ŗiya½ virattacitta½ k±retv± puna upakkitav±dena kakuµap±din²supi citta½ vir±jetv± sammadeva samathavipassan±nuyogena ariyamagge patiµµh±pesi. Ima½ ud±na½ ud±netv± thero punadivase bhagavanta½ upasaŖkamitv± evam±ha– “ya½ me, bhante, bhagav± p±µibhogo pańcanna½ acchar±sat±na½ paµil±bh±ya kakuµap±d±na½, muńc±maha½, bhante, bhagavanta½ etasm± paµissav±”ti (ud±. 22). Bhagav±pi, “yadeva kho te, nanda, anup±d±ya ±savehi citta½ vimutta½, ath±ha½ mutto etasm± paµissav±”ti (ud±. 22) ±ha. Athassa bhagav± savisesa½ indriyesu guttadv±rata½ ńatv± ta½ guŗa½ vibh±vento, “etadagga½, bhikkhave, mama s±vak±na½ bhikkh³na½ indriyesu guttadv±r±na½ yadida½ nando”ti (a. ni. 1.219, 230) indriyesu guttadv±rabh±vena aggaµµh±ne µhapesi. Thero hi “yamev±ha½ indriy±na½ asa½vara½ niss±ya ima½ vippak±ra½ patto, tamev±ha½ suµµhu niggahess±m²”ti uss±haj±to balavahirottappo tattha ca kat±dhik±ratt± indriyasa½vare ukka½sap±rami½ agam±s²ti.
