So bhagavanta½ disv± pasannacitto sugandh±ni punn±gapupph±ni ocinitv± bhagavanta½ p³jesi. So tena puññakammena devaloke nibbattitv± apar±para½ puññ±ni katv± devamanussesu sa½saranto imasmi½ buddhupp±de p±riyantadese vibhavasampannassa br±hmaºassa putto hutv± nibbatti, suhemantotissa n±ma½ ahosi. So viññuta½ patto saªkassanagare migad±ye viharanta½ bhagavanta½ upasaªkamitv± dhamma½ sutv± paµiladdhasaddho pabbajitv± tepiµako hutv± vipassana½ paµµhapetv± nacirasseva cha¼abhiñño paµisambhid±patto ahosi. Tattha sataliªgass±ti l²namattha½ gament²ti liªg±ni, atthesu saddassa pavattinimitt±ni, t±ni pana sata½ anek±ni liªg±ni etass±ti sataliªgo. Anekattho hi idha satasaddo, “sata½ sahassan”ti-±d²su viya na saªkhy±visesattho tassa sataliªgassa. Atthass±ti ñeyyassa, ñeyyañhi ñ±ºena araº²yato “attho”ti vuccati. So ca ekopi anekaliªgo, yath± “sakko purindado maghav±”ti, “paññ± vijj± medh± ñ±ºan”ti ca. Yena liªgena pavattinimittena t±vati½s±dhipatimhi indasaddo pavatto, na tena tattha sakk±disadd± pavatt±, atha kho aññena. Tath± yena samm±diµµhimhi paññ±saddo pavatto, na tena vijj±disadd±. Tena vutta½ “sataliªgassa atthass±”ti.
Satalakkhaºadh±rinoti anekalakkhaºavato. Lakkh²yati eten±ti lakkhaºa½, paccayabh±vino atthassa attano phala½ paµicca paccayabh±vo, tena hi so aya½ imassa k±raºanti lakkh²yati. So ca ekasseva atthassa anekappabhedo upalabbhati ten±ha “satalakkhaºadh±rino”ti. Atha v± lakkh²yant²ti lakkhaº±ni, tassa tassa atthassa saªkhatat±dayo pak±ravises± te pana atthato avatth±vises± veditabb±. Te ca pana tesa½ aniccat±dis±maññalakkhaºa½ liªgenti ñ±pent²ti “liªg±n²”ti ca vuccanti. Tassime ±k±r±, yasm± ekass±pi atthassa aneke upalabbhanti. Tena vutta½ “sataliªgassa atthassa, satalakkhaºadh±rino”ti. Ten±ha ±yasm± dhammasen±pati– “sabbe dhamm± sabb±k±rena buddhassa bhagavato ñ±ºamukhe ±p±tha½ ±gacchant²”ti (mah±ni. 156; c³¼ani. moghar±jam±ºavapucch±niddesa 85; paµi. ma. 3.5).
Ekaªgadass² dummedhoti eva½ anekaliªge anekalakkhaºe atthe yo tattha ekaªgadass² aputhupaññat±ya ekaliªgamatta½ ekalakkhaºamattañca disv± attan± diµµhameva “idameva saccan”ti abhinivissa “moghamaññan”ti itara½ paµikkhipati, hatthidassanaka-andho viya ekaªgag±h² dummedho duppañño tattha vijjam±n±na½yeva pak±ravises±na½ aj±nanato micch± abhinivisanato ca. Satadass² ca paº¹itoti paº¹ito pana tattha vijjam±ne anekepi pak±re attano paññ±cakkhun± sabbaso passati. Yo v± tattha labbham±ne aneke paññ±cakkhun± attan±pi passati, aññesampi dasseti pak±seti, so paº¹ito vicakkhaºo atthesu kusalo n±m±ti. Eva½ thero ukka½sagata½ attano paµisambhid±sampatti½ bhikkh³na½ vibh±vesi.
