209. Santhav±to bhaya½ j±tanti munisutta½. K± uppatti? Na sabbasseva suttassa ek± uppatti, apicettha ±dito t±va catunna½ g±th±na½ ayamuppatti– bhagavati kira s±vatthiya½ viharante g±mak±v±se aññatar± duggatitth² matapatik± putta½ bhikkh³su pabb±jetv± attan±pi bhikkhun²su pabbaji. Te ubhopi s±vatthiya½ vassa½ upagantv± abhiºha½ aññamaññassa dassanak±m± ahesu½. M±t± kiñci labhitv± puttassa harati, puttopi m±tu. Eva½ s±yampi p±topi aññamañña½ sam±gantv± laddha½ laddha½ sa½vibhajam±n±, sammodam±n±, sukhadukkha½ puccham±n±, nir±saªk± ahesu½. Tesa½ eva½ abhiºhadassanena sa½saggo uppajji, sa½sagg± viss±so, viss±s± ot±ro, r±gena otiººacitt±na½ pabbajitasaññ± ca m±tuputtasaññ± ca antaradh±yi. Tato mariy±dav²tikkama½ katv± asaddhamma½ paµisevi½su, ayasappatt± ca vibbhamitv± ag±ramajjhe vasi½su. Bhikkh³ bhagavato ±rocesu½. “Ki½ nu so, bhikkhave, moghapuriso maññati na m±t± putte s±rajjati, putto v± pana m±tar²”ti garahitv± “n±ha½, bhikkhave, añña½ ekar³pampi samanupass±m²”ti-±din± (a. ni. 5.55) avasesasuttenapi bhikkh³ sa½vejetv± “tasm±tiha, bhikkhave–
“Visa½ yath± hal±hala½, tela½ pakkuthita½ yath±;
tambalohavil²na½va, m±tug±ma½ vivajjaye”ti ca.–

Vatv± puna bhikkh³na½ dhammadesanattha½– “santhav±to bhaya½ j±tan”ti im± attupan±yik± catasso g±th± abh±si.

Tattha santhavo taºh±diµµhimittabhedena tividhoti pubbe vutto. Idha taºh±diµµhisanthavo adhippeto. Ta½ sandh±ya bhagav± ±ha– “passatha, bhikkhave, yath± ida½ tassa moghapurisassa santhav±to bhaya½ j±tan”ti. Tañhi tassa abhiºhadassanak±mat±ditaºh±ya balavakilesabhaya½ j±ta½, yena saºµh±tu½ asakkonto m±tari vippaµipajji. Att±nuv±d±dika½ v± mah±bhaya½, yena s±sana½ cha¹¹etv± vibbhanto. Niket±ti “r³panimittaniketavis±ravinibandh± kho, gahapati, ‘niketas±r²’ti vuccat²”ti-±din± (sa½. ni. 3.3) nayena vutt± ±rammaºappabhed±. J±yate rajoti r±gadosamoharajo j±yate. Ki½ vutta½ hoti? Na kevalañca tassa santhav±to bhaya½ j±ta½, apica kho pana yadeta½ kiles±na½ niv±saµµhena s±sav±rammaºa½ “niketan”ti vuccati, id±nissa bhinnasa½varatt± atikkantamariy±datt± suµµhutara½ tato niket± j±yate rajo, yena sa½kiliµµhacitto anayabyasana½ p±puºissati. Atha v± passatha, bhikkhave, yath± ida½ tassa moghapurisassa santhav±to bhaya½ j±ta½, yath± ca sabbaputhujjan±na½ niket± j±yate rajoti evampeta½ padadvaya½ yojetabba½.
Sabbath± pana imin± purimaddhena bhagav± puthujjanadassana½ garahitv± attano dassana½ pasa½santo “aniketan”ti pacchimaddham±ha. Tattha yath±vuttaniketapaµikkhepena aniketa½, santhavapaµikkhepena ca asanthava½ veditabba½. Ubhayampeta½ nibb±nass±dhivacana½. Eta½ ve munidassananti eta½ aniketamasanthava½ buddhamunin± diµµhanti attho. Tattha veti vimhayatthe nip±to daµµhabbo. Tena ca ya½ n±ma niketasanthavavasena m±t±puttesu vippaµipajjam±nesu aniketamasanthava½, eta½ munin± diµµha½ aho abbhutanti ayamadhipp±yo siddho hoti. Atha v± munino dassanantipi munidassana½, dassana½ n±ma khanti ruci, khamati ceva ruccati c±ti attho.

Dutiyag±th±ya yo j±tamucchijj±ti yo kismiñcideva vatthusmi½ j±ta½ bh³ta½ nibbatta½ kilesa½ yath± uppann±kusalappah±na½ hoti, tath± v±yamanto tasmi½ vatthusmi½ puna anibbattanavasena ucchinditv± yo an±gatopi kileso tath±r³pappaccayasamodh±ne nibbattitu½ abhimukh²bh³tatt± vattam±nasam²pe vattam±nalakkhaºena “j±yanto”ti vuccati, tañca na ropayeyya j±yanta½, yath± anuppann±kusal±nupp±do hoti, tath± v±yamanto na nibbatteyy±ti attho. Kathañca na nibbatteyya? Assa n±nuppavecche, yena paccayena so nibbatteyya ta½ n±nuppaveseyya na samodh±neyya. Eva½ sambh±ravekallakaraºena ta½ na ropayeyya j±yanta½. Atha v± yasm± maggabh±van±ya at²t±pi kiles± ucchijjanti ±yati½ vip±k±bh±vena vattam±n±pi na rop²yanti tadabh±vena, an±gat±pi cittasantati½ n±nuppaves²yanti uppattis±matthiyavigh±tena, tasm± yo ariyamaggabh±van±ya j±tamucchijja na ropayeyya j±yanta½, an±gatampi cassa j±yantassa n±nuppavecche, tam±hu eka½ munina½ caranta½, so ca addakkhi santipada½ mahes²ti evampettha yojan± veditabb±. Ekantanikkilesat±ya eka½, seµµhaµµhena v± eka½. Muninanti muni½, mun²su v± eka½. Carantanti sabb±k±raparip³r±ya lokatthacariy±ya avasesacariy±hi ca caranta½. Addakkh²ti addasa. Soti yo j±tamucchijja aropane ananuppavesane ca samatthat±ya “na ropayeyya j±yantamassa n±nuppavecche”ti vutto buddhamuni. Santipadanti santikoµµh±sa½, dv±saµµhidiµµhigatavipassan±nibb±nabhed±su t²su sammutisanti, tadaªgasanti, accantasant²su seµµha½ eva½ anupasante loke accantasanti½ addasa mahes²ti evamattho veditabbo.
211. Tatiyag±th±ya saªkh±y±ti gaºayitv±, paricchinditv± v²ma½sitv± yath±bh³tato ñatv±, dukkhapariññ±ya parij±nitv±ti attho. Vatth³n²ti yesu evamaya½ loko sajjati, t±ni khandh±yatanadh±tubhed±ni kilesaµµh±n±ni. Pam±ya b²janti ya½ tesa½ vatth³na½ b²ja½ abhisaªkh±raviññ±ºa½, ta½ pam±ya hi½sitv±, b±dhitv±, samucchedappah±nena pajahitv±ti attho. Sinehamassa n±nuppaveccheti yena taºh±diµµhisinehena sinehita½ ta½ b²ja½ ±yati½ paµisandhivasena ta½ yath±vutta½ vatthusassa½ viruheyya, ta½ sinehamassa n±nuppavecche, tappaµipakkh±ya maggabh±van±ya ta½ n±nuppaveseyy±ti attho. Sa ve muni j±tikhayantadass²ti so evar³po buddhamuni nibb±nasacchikiriy±ya j±tiy± ca maraºassa ca antabh³tassa nibb±nassa diµµhatt± j±tikkhayantadass² takka½ pah±ya na upeti saªkha½. Im±ya catusaccabh±van±ya navappabhedampi akusalavitakka½ pah±ya sa-up±disesanibb±nadh±tu½ patv± lokatthacariya½ karonto anupubbena carimaviññ±ºakkhay± anup±disesanibb±nadh±tuppattiy± “devo v± manusso v±”ti na upeti saªkha½. 212. Catutthag±th±ya aññ±y±ti anicc±dinayena j±nitv±. Sabb±n²ti anavases±ni, nivesan±n²ti k±mabhav±dike bhave. Nivasanti hi tesu satt±, tasm± “nivesan±n²”ti vuccanti. Anik±maya½ aññatarampi tesanti eva½ diµµh±d²navatt± tesa½ nivesan±na½ ekampi apatthento so evar³po buddhamuni maggabh±van±balena taºh±gedhassa vigatatt± v²tagedho, v²tagedhatt± eva ca agiddho, na yath± eke av²tagedh± eva sam±n± “agiddhamh±”ti paµij±nanti, eva½. N±y³hat²ti tassa tassa nivesanassa nibbattaka½ kusala½ v± akusala½ v± na karoti. Ki½ k±raº±? P±ragato hi hoti, yasm± evar³po sabbanivesan±na½ p±ra½ nibb±na½ gato hot²ti attho.
Eva½ paµhamag±th±ya puthujjanadassana½ garahitv± attano dassana½ pasa½santo dutiyag±th±ya yehi kilesehi puthujjano anupasanto hoti, tesa½ abh±vena attano santipad±dhigama½ pasa½santo tatiyag±th±ya yesu vatth³su puthujjano takka½ appah±ya tath± tath± saªkha½ upeti, tesu catusaccabh±van±ya takka½ pah±ya attano saªkh±nupagamana½ pasa½santo catutthag±th±ya ±yatimpi y±ni nivesan±ni k±mayam±no puthujjano bhavataºh±ya ±y³hati, tesu taºh±bh±vena attano an±y³hana½ pasa½santo cat³hi g±th±hi arahattanik³µeneva ekaµµhuppattika½ desana½ niµµh±pesi.
213. Sabb±bhibhunti k± uppatti? Mah±puriso mah±bhinikkhamana½ katv± anupubbena sabbaññuta½ patv± dhammacakkappavattanatth±ya b±r±ºasi½ gacchanto bodhimaº¹assa ca gay±ya ca antare upaken±j²vakena sam±gacchi. Tena ca “vippasann±ni kho te, ±vuso, indriy±n²”ti-±din± (ma. ni. 1.285; mah±va. 11) nayena puµµho “sabb±bhibh³”ti-±d²ni ±ha. Upako “hupeyy±vuso”ti vatv±, s²sa½ okampetv±, ummagga½ gahetv± pakk±mi Anukkamena ca vaªkah±rajanapade aññatara½ m±gavikag±ma½ p±puºi. Tamena½ m±gavikajeµµhako disv±– “aho appiccho samaºo vatthampi na niv±seti, aya½ loke arah±”ti ghara½ netv± ma½sarasena parivisitv± bhutt±viñca na½ saputtad±ro vanditv± “idheva, bhante, vasatha, aha½ paccayena upaµµhahiss±m²”ti nimantetv±, vasanok±sa½ katv± ad±si. So tattha vasati.
M±gaviko gimhak±le udakasampanne s²tale padese caritu½ d³ra½ apakkantesu migesu tattha gacchanto “amh±ka½ arahanta½ sakkacca½ upaµµhahass³”ti ch±va½ n±ma dh²tara½ ±º±petv± agam±si saddhi½ puttabh±tukehi. S± cassa dh²t± dassan²y± hoti koµµh±sasampann±. Dutiyadivase upako ghara½ ±gato ta½ d±rika½ sabba½ upac±ra½ katv±, parivisitu½ upagata½ disv±, r±gena abhibh³to bhuñjitumpi asakkonto bh±janena bhatta½ ±d±ya vasanaµµh±na½ gantv±, bhatta½ ekamante nikkhipitv±– “sace ch±va½ labh±mi, j²v±mi, no ce, mar±m²”ti nir±h±ro sayi. Sattame divase m±gaviko ±gantv± dh²tara½ upakassa pavatti½ pucchi. S±– “ekadivasameva ±gantv± puna n±gatapubbo”ti ±ha. M±gaviko “±gataveseneva na½ upasaªkamitv± pucchiss±m²”ti taªkhaºaññeva gantv±– “ki½, bhante, aph±sukan”ti p±de par±masanto pucchi. Upako nitthunanto parivattatiyeva. So “vada, bhante, ya½ may± sakk± k±tu½, sabba½ kariss±m²”ti ±ha. Upako– “sace ch±va½ labh±mi, j²v±mi, no ce, idheva maraºa½ seyyo”ti ±ha. “J±n±si pana, bhante, kiñci sippan”ti? “Na j±n±m²”ti “Na, bhante, kiñci sippa½ aj±nantena sakk± ghar±v±sa½ adhiµµh±tun”ti? So ±ha– “n±ha½ kiñci sippa½ j±n±mi, apica tumh±ka½ ma½sah±rako bhaviss±mi, ma½sañca vikkiºiss±m²”ti. M±gavikopi “amh±ka½ etadeva ruccat²”ti uttaras±µaka½ datv±, ghara½ ±netv± dh²tara½ ad±si. Tesa½ sa½v±samanv±ya putto vij±yi. Subhaddotissa n±ma½ aka½su. Ch±v± puttatosanag²tena upaka½ uppaº¹esi. So ta½ asahanto “bhadde, aha½ anantajinassa santika½ gacch±m²”ti majjhimades±bhimukho pakk±mi.
Bhagav± ca tena samayena s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavanamah±vih±re. Atha kho bhagav± paµikacceva bhikkh³ ±º±pesi– “yo, bhikkhave, anantajinoti puccham±no ±gacchati, tassa ma½ dasseyy±th±”ti. Upakopi kho anupubbeneva s±vatthi½ ±gantv± vih±ramajjhe µhatv± “imasmi½ vih±re mama sah±yo anantajino n±ma atthi, so kuhi½ vasat²”ti pucchi. Ta½ bhikkh³ bhagavato santika½ nayi½su. Bhagav± tass±nur³pa½ dhamma½ desesi. So desan±pariyos±ne an±g±miphale patiµµh±si. Bhikkh³ tassa pubbappavatti½ sutv± katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “bhagav± paµhama½ nissirikassa naggasamaºassa dhamma½ deses²”ti. Bhagav± ta½ kath±samuµµh±na½ viditv± gandhakuµito nikkhamma taªkhaº±nur³pena p±µih±riyena buddh±sane nis²ditv± bhikkh³ ±mantesi– “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti? Te sabba½ kathesu½. Tato bhagav±– “na, bhikkhave, tath±gato ahetu-appaccay± dhamma½ deseti, nimmal± tath±gatassa dhammadesan±, na sakk± tattha dosa½ daµµhu½. Tena, bhikkhave, dhammadesan³panissayena upako etarahi an±g±m² j±to”ti vatv± attano desan±mal±bh±vad²pika½ ima½ g±thamabh±si.
