78. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati pubb±r±me mig±ram±tup±s±de. Tena kho pana samayena vis±kh±ya mig±ram±tuy± natt± k±laªkat± hoti piy± man±p±. Atha kho vis±kh± mig±ram±t± allavatth± allakes± div± divassa yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinna½ kho vis±kha½ mig±ram±tara½ bhagav± etadavoca
“Handa kuto nu tva½, vis±khe, ±gacchasi allavatth± allakes± idh³pasaªkant± div± divass±”ti? “Natt± me, bhante, piy± man±p± k±laªkat±. Ten±ha½ allavatth± allakes± idh³pasaªkant± div± divass±”ti. “Iccheyy±si tva½, vis±khe, y±vatik± [y±vatak± (?)] S±vatthiy± manuss± t±vatike [t±vatake (?)] Putte ca natt±ro c±”ti? “Iccheyy±ha½, bhagav± [iccheyy±ha½ bhante bhagav± (sy±.)] y±vatik± s±vatthiy± manuss± t±vatike putte ca natt±ro c±”ti.
“K²vabahuk± pana, vis±khe, s±vatthiy± manuss± devasika½ k±la½ karont²”ti? “Dasapi, bhante, s±vatthiy± manuss± devasika½ k±la½ karonti; navapi, bhante… aµµhapi, bhante… sattapi, bhante… chapi, bhante… pañcapi, bhante… catt±ropi, bhante… t²ºipi, bhante… dvepi, bhante, s±vatthiy± manuss± devasika½ k±la½ karonti. Ekopi, bhante, s±vatthiy± manusso devasika½ k±la½ karoti. Avivitt±, bhante, s±vatthi manussehi k±la½ karonteh²”ti.
“Ta½ ki½ maññasi, vis±khe, api nu tva½ kad±ci karahaci anallavatth± v± bhaveyy±si anallakes± v±”ti? “No heta½, bhante Ala½ me, bhante, t±va bahukehi puttehi ca natt±rehi c±”ti.
“Yesa½ kho, vis±khe, sata½ piy±ni, sata½ tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ navuti piy±ni, navuti tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ as²ti piy±ni, as²ti tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ sattati piy±ni, sattati tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ saµµhi piy±ni, saµµhi tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ paññ±sa½ piy±ni, paññ±sa½ tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ catt±r²sa½ piy±ni, catt±r²sa½ tesa½ dukkh±ni, yesa½ ti½sa½ piy±ni, ti½sa½ tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ v²sati piy±ni, v²sati tesa½ dukkh±ni, yesa½ dasa piy±ni, dasa tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ nava piy±ni, nava tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ aµµha piy±ni, aµµha tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ satta piy±ni, satta tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ cha piy±ni, cha tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ pañca piy±ni, pañca tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ catt±ri piy±ni, catt±ri tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ t²ºi piy±ni, t²ºi tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ dve piy±ni, dve tesa½ dukkh±ni; yesa½ eka½ piya½, eka½ tesa½ dukkha½; yesa½ natthi piya½, natthi tesa½ dukkha½, asok± te viraj± anup±y±s±ti vad±m²”ti.
Atha kho bhagav± etamattha½ viditv± t±ya½ vel±ya½ ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Ye keci sok± paridevit± v±,
dukkh± ca [dukkh± va (aµµha.)] lokasmimanekar³p±;
piya½ paµiccappabhavanti ete,
piye asante na bhavanti ete.
“Tasm± hi te sukhino v²tasok±,
yesa½ piya½ natthi kuhiñci loke;
tasm± asoka½ viraja½ patthay±no,
piya½ na kayir±tha kuhiñci loke”ti. Aµµhama½.
