46. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± s±vatthiya½ viharati jetavane an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±me. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± mah±kacc±no avant²su viharati kuraraghare [kururaghare (sy±. mah±va. 257), kulaghare (ka.)] pavatte pabbate. Tena kho pana samayena soºo up±sako kuµikaººo ±yasmato mah±kacc±nassa upaµµh±ko hoti.
Atha kho soºassa up±sakassa kuµikaººassa rahogatassa paµisall²nassa eva½ cetaso parivitakko udap±di– “yath± yath± kho ayyo mah±kacc±no dhamma½ deseti nayida½ sukara½ ag±ra½ ajjh±vasat± ekantaparipuººa½ ekantaparisuddha½ saªkhalikhita½ brahmacariya½ caritu½. Ya½n³n±ha½ kesamassu½ oh±retv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajeyyan”ti.
Atha kho soºo up±sako kuµikaººo yen±yasm± mah±kacc±no tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho soºo up±sako kuµikaººo ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ etadavoca–
“Idha mayha½, bhante, rahogatassa paµisall²nassa eva½ cetaso parivitakko udap±di– ‘yath± yath± kho ayyo mah±kacc±no dhamma½ deseti nayida½ sukara½ ag±ra½ ajjh±vasat± ekantaparipuººa½ ekantaparisuddha½ saªkhalikhita½ brahmacariya½ caritu½. Ya½n³n±ha½ kesamassu½ oh±retv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajeyyan’ti. Pabb±jetu ma½, bhante ayyo mah±kacc±no”ti.
Eva½ vutte, ±yasm± mah±kacc±no soºa½ up±saka½ kuµikaººa½ etadavoca– “dukkara½ kho, soºa, y±vaj²va½ ekabhatta½ ekaseyya½ brahmacariya½. Iªgha tva½, soºa, tattheva ±g±rikabh³to sam±no buddh±na½ s±sana½ anuyuñja k±layutta½ ekabhatta½ ekaseyya½ brahmacariyan”ti. Atha kho soºassa up±sakassa kuµikaººassa yo ahosi pabbajj±bhisaªkh±ro so paµipassambhi.
Dutiyampi kho…pe… dutiyampi kho ±yasm± mah±kacc±no soºa½ up±saka½ kuµikaººa½ etadavoca– “dukkara½ kho, soºa, y±vaj²va½ ekabhatta½ ekaseyya½ brahmacariya½. Iªgha tva½, soºa, tattheva ±g±rikabh³to sam±no buddh±na½ s±sana½ anuyuñja k±layutta½ ekabhatta½ ekaseyya½ brahmacariyan”ti. Dutiyampi kho soºassa up±sakassa kuµikaººassa yo ahosi pabbajj±bhisaªkh±ro so paµipassambhi.

Ya½n³n±ha½ kesamassu½ oh±retv± k±s±y±ni vatth±ni acch±detv± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajeyyan”ti. Atha kho ±yasm± mah±kacc±no soºa½ up±saka½ kuµikaººa½ pabb±jesi. Tena kho pana samayena avantidakkhiº±patho [avanti dakkhiºapatho (s².)] appabhikkhuko hoti. Atha kho ±yasm± mah±kacc±no tiººa½ vass±na½ accayena kicchena kasirena tato tato dasavagga½ bhikkhusaªgha½ sannip±tetv± ±yasmanta½ soºa½ upasamp±desi.
Atha kho ±yasmato soºassa vassa½vuµµhassa [vassa½vutthassa (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] rahogatassa paµisall²nassa eva½ cetaso parivitakko udap±di– “na kho me so bhagav± sammukh± diµµho, api ca sutoyeva me so bhagav±– ‘²diso ca ²diso c±’ti. Sace ma½ upajjh±yo anuj±neyya, gaccheyy±ha½ ta½ bhagavanta½ dassan±ya arahanta½ samm±sambuddhan”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± soºo s±yanhasamaya½ paµisall±n± vuµµhito yen±yasm± mah±kacc±no tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± soºo ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ etadavoca–
“Idha mayha½, bhante, rahogatassa paµisall²nassa eva½ cetaso parivitakko udap±di– ‘na kho me so bhagav± sammukh± diµµho, api ca sutoyeva me so bhagav±– ²diso ca ²diso c±’ti. Sace ma½ upajjh±yo anuj±neyya, gaccheyy±ha½ ta½ bhagavanta½ dassan±ya arahanta½ samm±sambuddhan”ti ( ) [(gaccheyy±ha½ bhante ta½ bhagavanta½ dassan±ya arahanta½ samm±sambuddha½, sace ma½ upajjh±yo anuj±n±t²ti (mah±va. 257)].
“S±dhu s±dhu, soºa; gaccha tva½, soºa, ta½ bhagavanta½ dassan±ya arahanta½ samm±sambuddha½ [sam±sambuddhanti (sabbattha)]. Dakkhissasi tva½, soºa, ta½ bhagavanta½ p±s±dika½ pas±dan²ya½ santindriya½ santam±nasa½ uttamadamathasamathamanuppatta½ danta½ gutta½ yatindriya½ n±ga½. Disv±na mama vacanena bhagavato p±de siras± vand±hi, app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ [ph±suvih±rañca (s².)] puccha– ‘upajjh±yo me, bhante, ±yasm± mah±kacc±no bhagavato p±de siras± vandati, app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ [ph±suvih±rañca (s².)] pucchat²”’ti.
“Eva½, bhante”ti kho ±yasm± soºo ±yasmato mah±kacc±nassa bh±sita½ abhinanditv± anumoditv± uµµh±y±san± ±yasmanta½ mah±kacc±na½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± sen±sana½ sa½s±metv± pattac²varam±d±ya yena s±vatthi tena c±rika½ pakk±mi. Anupubbena c±rika½ caram±no yena s±vatthi jetavana½ an±thapiº¹ikassa ±r±mo, yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami, upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± soºo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “upajjh±yo me, bhante, ±yasm± mah±kacc±no bhagavato p±de siras± vandati, app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ [ph±suvih±rañca (s².)] pucchat²”ti.
“Kacci, bhikkhu, khaman²ya½, kacci y±pan²ya½, kaccisi appakilamathena addh±na½ ±gato, na ca piº¹akena kilantos²”ti? “Khaman²ya½ bhagav±, y±pan²ya½ bhagav±, appakilamathena c±ha½, bhante, addh±na½ ±gato, na piº¹akena kilantomh²”ti.
Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ ±nanda½ ±mantesi– “imass±nanda, ±gantukassa bhikkhuno sen±sana½ paññ±peh²”ti. Atha kho ±yasmato ±nandassa etadahosi– “yassa kho ma½ bhagav± ±º±peti ‘imass±nanda, ±gantukassa bhikkhuno sen±sana½ paññ±peh²’ti, icchati bhagav± tena bhikkhun± saddhi½ ekavih±re vatthu½, icchati bhagav± ±yasmat± soºena saddhi½ ekavih±re vatthun”ti. Yasmi½ vih±re bhagav± viharati, tasmi½ vih±re ±yasmato soºassa sen±sana½ paññ±pesi.
Atha kho bhagav± bahudeva ratti½ abbhok±se nisajj±ya v²tin±metv± p±de pakkh±letv± vih±ra½ p±visi. ¾yasm±pi kho soºo bahudeva ratti½ abbhok±se nisajj±ya v²tin±metv± p±de pakkh±letv± vih±ra½ p±visi. Atha kho bhagav± rattiy± pacc³sasamaya½ paccuµµh±ya ±yasmanta½ soºa½ ajjhesi– “paµibh±tu ta½ bhikkhu dhammo bh±situn”ti.
“Eva½, bhante”ti kho ±yasm± soºo bhagavato paµissutv± so¼asa aµµhakavaggik±ni sabb±neva sarena abhaºi. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmato soºassa sarabhaññapariyos±ne abbhanumodi– “s±dhu s±dhu, bhikkhu, suggahit±ni te, bhikkhu, so¼asa aµµhakavaggik±ni sumanasikat±ni s³padh±rit±ni, kaly±ºiy±si [kaly±ºiy± ca (ka.), kaly±ºiy± c±si (?)] V±c±ya samann±gato vissaµµh±ya anelaga¼±ya atthassa viññ±paniy±. Kati vassosi tva½, bhikkh³”ti? “Ekavasso aha½ bhagav±”ti. “Kissa pana tva½ bhikkhu, eva½ cira½ ak±s²”ti? “Cira½ diµµho [ciradiµµho (s².)] me, bhante, k±mesu ±d²navo; api ca samb±dho ghar±v±so bahukicco bahukaraº²yo”ti.
Atha kho bhagav± etamattha½ viditv± t±ya½ vel±ya½ ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Disv± ±d²nava½ loke, ñatv± dhamma½ nir³padhi½;
ariyo na ramat² p±pe, p±pe na ramat² suc²”ti. Chaµµha½.
