1. Meghiyasutta½

31. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± c±lik±ya½ viharati c±like pabbate. Tena kho pana samayena ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavato upaµµh±ko hoti. Atha kho ±yasm± meghiyo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Ekamanta½ µhito kho ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “icch±maha½, bhante, jantug±ma½ piº¹±ya pavisitun”ti. “Yassad±ni tva½, meghiya, k±la½ maññas²”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± meghiyo pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya jantug±ma½ piº¹±ya p±visi. Jantug±me piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto yena kimik±¼±ya nadiy± t²ra½ tenupasaªkami. [Upasaªkamitv± (sabbattha) a. ni. 9.3 passitabba½] addas± kho ±yasm± meghiyo [upasaªkamitv± (sabbattha) a. ni. 9.3 passitabba½] kimik±¼±ya nadiy± t²re jaªgh±vih±ra½ [jaªghavih±ra½ (ka.)] anucaªkamam±no anuvicaram±no [anuvicaram±no addas± kho (s². sy±. p².), anuvicaram±no addasa (ka.)] ambavana½ p±s±dika½ manuñña½ ramaº²ya½. Disv±nassa etadahosi– “p±s±dika½ vatida½ ambavana½ manuñña½ [ida½ pada½ videsapotthakesu natthi, aªguttarepi] ramaº²ya½. Ala½ vatida½ kulaputtassa padh±natthikassa padh±n±ya. Sace ma½ bhagav± anuj±neyya, ±gaccheyy±ha½ ima½ ambavana½ padh±n±y±”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± meghiyo yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavanta½ etadavoca–
“Idh±ha½, bhante, pubbaºhasamaya½ niv±setv± pattac²varam±d±ya jantug±ma½ piº¹±ya p±visi½. Jantug±me piº¹±ya caritv± pacch±bhatta½ piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto yena kimik±¼±ya nadiy± t²ra½ tenupasaªkami½ [upasaªkamitv± (sabbattha)]. Addasa½ kho aha½, bhante [upasaªkamitv± (sabbattha)], kimik±¼±ya nadiy± t²re jaªgh±vih±ra½ anucaªkamam±no anuvicaram±no [anuvicaram±no addasa½ (sabbattha)] ambavana½ p±s±dika½ manuñña½ ramaº²ya½. Disv±na me etadahosi– ‘p±s±dika½ vatida½ ambavana½ manuñña½ ramaº²ya½. Ala½ vatida½ kulaputtassa padh±natthikassa padh±n±ya. Sace ma½ bhagav± anuj±neyya, ±gaccheyy±ha½ ima½ ambavana½ padh±n±y±’ti. Sace ma½, bhante, bhagav± anuj±n±ti [anuj±neyya (a. ni. 9.3)], gaccheyy±ha½ ta½ ambavana½ padh±n±y±”ti.
Eva½ vutte, bhagav± ±yasmanta½ meghiya½ etadavoca– “±gamehi t±va, meghiya, ekakamhi [ekakamh± (s². p².), ekakomhi (sy±.)] t±va, y±va aññopi koci bhikkhu ±gacchat²”ti.
Dutiyampi kho ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “bhagavato, bhante, natthi kiñci uttari [uttari½ (s². sy±. ka½. p².)] karaº²ya½, natthi katassa v± paticayo. Mayha½ kho pana, bhante, atthi uttari karaº²ya½, atthi katassa paticayo. Sace ma½ bhagav± anuj±n±ti, gaccheyy±ha½ ta½ ambavana½ padh±n±y±”ti. Dutiyampi kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ meghiya½ etadavoca– “±gamehi t±va, meghiya, ekakamhi t±va, y±va aññopi koci bhikkhu ±gacchat²”ti.
Tatiyampi kho ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “bhagavato, bhante, natthi kiñci uttari karaº²ya½, natthi katassa v± paticayo. Mayha½ kho pana, bhante, atthi uttari karaº²ya½, atthi katassa paticayo. Sace ma½ bhagav± anuj±n±ti, gaccheyy±ha½ ta½ ambavana½ padh±n±y±”ti. “Padh±nanti kho, meghiya, vadam±na½ kinti vadeyy±ma? Yassad±ni tva½, meghiya, k±la½ maññas²”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± meghiyo uµµh±y±san± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± yena ta½ ambavana½ tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ta½ ambavana½ ajjhog±hetv± [ajjhogahetv± (s². sy±. p².)] aññatarasmi½ rukkham³le div±vih±ra½ nis²di. Atha kho ±yasmato meghiyassa tasmi½ ambavane viharantassa yebhuyyena tayo p±pak± akusal± vitakk± samud±caranti, seyyathida½– k±mavitakko, by±p±davitakko, vihi½s±vitakko [vitakkoti (s². p². ka.)].
Atha kho ±yasmato meghiyassa etadahosi– “acchariya½ vata bho, abbhuta½ vata bho! Saddh±ya ca vatamh± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajit±. Atha ca panimehi t²hi p±pakehi akusalehi vitakkehi anv±satt±, seyyathida½– k±mavitakkena, by±p±davitakkena, vihi½s±vitakkena”.
Atha kho ±yasm± meghiyo s±yanhasamaya½ paµisall±n± vuµµhito yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho ±yasm± meghiyo bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “idha mayha½, bhante, tasmi½ ambavane viharantassa yebhuyyena tayo p±pak± akusal± vitakk± samud±caranti, seyyathida½– k±mavitakko, by±p±davitakko, vihi½s±vitakko Tassa mayha½, bhante, etadahosi– ‘acchariya½ vata, bho, abbhuta½ vata, bho! Saddh±ya ca vatamh± ag±rasm± anag±riya½ pabbajit±. Atha ca panimehi t²hi p±pakehi akusalehi vitakkehi anv±satt±, seyyathida½– k±mavitakkena, by±p±davitakkena, vihi½s±vitakkena”’.
“Aparipakk±ya meghiya, cetovimuttiy± pañca dhamm± parip±k±ya sa½vattanti. Katame pañca?
“Idha, meghiya, bhikkhu kaly±ºamitto hoti kaly±ºasah±yo kaly±ºasampavaªko. Aparipakk±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± aya½ paµhamo dhammo parip±k±ya sa½vattati.
“Puna capara½, meghiya, bhikkhu s²lav± hoti, p±timokkhasa½varasa½vuto viharati ±c±ragocarasampanno, aºumattesu vajjesu bhayadass±v², sam±d±ya sikkhati sikkh±padesu. Aparipakk±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± aya½ dutiyo dhammo parip±k±ya sa½vattati.
“Puna capara½, meghiya, bhikkhu y±ya½ kath± abhisallekhik± cetovivaraºasapp±y± ekantanibbid±ya vir±g±ya nirodh±ya upasam±ya abhiññ±ya sambodh±ya nibb±n±ya sa½vattati, seyyathida½– appicchakath±, santuµµhikath±, pavivekakath±, asa½saggakath±, v²riy±rambhakath±, s²lakath±, sam±dhikath±, paññ±kath±, vimuttikath±, vimuttiñ±ºadassanakath±; evar³p±ya kath±ya nik±mal±bh² hoti akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh². Aparip±k±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± aya½ tatiyo dhammo parip±k±ya sa½vattati.
“Puna capara½ meghiya, bhikkhu ±raddhav²riyo viharati, akusal±na½ dhamm±na½ pah±n±ya, kusal±na½ dhamm±na½ upasampad±ya [upp±d±ya (sy±.)], th±mav± da¼haparakkamo anikkhittadhuro kusalesu dhammesu. Aparipakk±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± aya½ catuttho dhammo parip±k±ya sa½vattati.
“Puna capara½, meghiya, bhikkhu paññav± hoti udayatthag±miniy± paññ±ya samann±gato ariy±ya nibbedhik±ya samm± dukkhakkhayag±miniy±. Aparipakk±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± aya½ pañcamo dhammo parip±k±ya sa½vattati. Aparipakk±ya, meghiya, cetovimuttiy± ime pañca dhamm± parip±k±ya sa½vattanti.
“Kaly±ºamittasseta½ meghiya, bhikkhuno p±µikaªkha½ kaly±ºasah±yassa kaly±ºasampavaªkassa ya½ s²lav± bhavissati, p±timokkhasa½varasa½vuto viharissati, ±c±ragocarasampanno, aºumattesu vajjesu bhayadass±v², sam±d±ya sikkhissati sikkh±padesu.
“Kaly±ºamittasseta½ meghiya, bhikkhuno p±µikaªkha½ kaly±ºasah±yassa kaly±ºasampavaªkassa ya½ y±ya½ kath± abhisallekhik± cetovivaraºasapp±y± ekantanibbid±ya vir±g±ya nirodh±ya upasam±ya abhiññ±ya sambodh±ya nibb±n±ya sa½vattati, seyyathida½– appicchakath±, santuµµhikath±, pavivekakath±, asa½saggakath±, v²riy±rambhakath±, s²lakath±, sam±dhikath±, paññ±kath±, vimuttikath±, vimuttiñ±ºadassanakath±; evar³p±ya kath±ya nik±mal±bh² bhavissati akicchal±bh² akasiral±bh².
“Kaly±ºamittasseta½, meghiya, bhikkhuno p±µikaªkha½ kaly±ºasah±yassa kaly±ºasampavaªkassa ya½ ±raddhav²riyo viharissati akusal±na½ dhamm±na½ pah±n±ya, kusal±na½ dhamm±na½ upasampad±ya, th±mav± da¼haparakkamo anikkhittadhuro kusalesu dhammesu.
“Kaly±ºamittasseta½, meghiya, bhikkhuno p±µikaªkha½ kaly±ºasah±yassa kaly±ºasampavaªkassa ya½ paññav± bhavissati, udayatthag±miniy± paññ±ya samann±gato ariy±ya nibbedhik±ya samm± dukkhakkhayag±miniy±.
“Tena ca pana, meghiya, bhikkhun± imesu pañcasu dhammesu patiµµh±ya catt±ro dhamm± uttari bh±vetabb±– asubh± bh±vetabb± r±gassa pah±n±ya, mett± bh±vetabb± by±p±dassa pah±n±ya, ±n±p±nassati bh±vetabb± vitakkupacched±ya, aniccasaññ± bh±vetabb± asmim±nasamuggh±t±ya. Aniccasaññino hi, meghiya, anattasaññ± saºµh±ti, anattasaññ² asmim±nasamuggh±ta½ p±puº±ti diµµheva dhamme nibb±nan”ti.
Atha kho bhagav± etamattha½ viditv± t±ya½ vel±ya½ ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“Khudd± vitakk± sukhum± vitakk±,
anugat± [anuggat± (s². ka. aµµhakath±ya½ p±µhantara½)] manaso uppil±v± [ubbil±p± (s². sy±. p².)];
ete avidv± manaso vitakke,
hur± hura½ dh±vati bhantacitto.
“Ete ca vidv± manaso vitakke,
±t±piyo sa½varat² sat²m±;
anugate manaso uppil±ve,
asesamete pajah±si buddho”ti. Paµhama½.
