18. Eva½ me suta½– eka½ samaya½ bhagav± kuº¹ik±ya½ [kuº¹iy±ya½ (s². sy±. p².)] viharati kuº¹adh±navane [kuº¹iµµh±navane (sy±. p².)]. Tena kho pana samayena suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±reti. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± dukkh±hi tibb±hi khar±hi kaµuk±hi vedan±hi phuµµh± t²hi vitakkehi adhiv±seti– “samm±sambuddho vata so bhagav± yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya dhamma½ deseti; suppaµipanno vata tassa bhagavato s±vakasaªgho yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya paµipanno; susukha½ vata ta½ nibb±na½ yatthida½ evar³pa½ dukkha½ na sa½vijjat²”ti.
Atha kho suppav±s± koliyadh²t± s±mika½ ±mantesi– “ehi tva½, ayyaputta, yena bhagav± tenupasaªkama; upasaªkamitv± mama vacanena bhagavato p±de siras± vand±hi; app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ puccha– ‘suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± bhagavato p±de siras± vandati; app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ pucchat²’ti. Evañca vadehi– ‘suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±reti. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± dukkh±hi tibb±hi khar±hi kaµuk±hi vedan±hi phuµµh± t²hi vitakkehi adhiv±seti– samm±sambuddho vata so bhagav± yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya dhamma½ deseti; suppaµipanno vata tassa bhagavato s±vakasaªgho yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya paµipanno; susukha½ vata ta½ nibb±na½ yatthida½ evar³pa½ dukkha½ na sa½vijjat²”’ti.
“Paraman”ti kho so koliyaputto suppav±s±ya koliyadh²t±ya paµissutv± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Ekamanta½ nisinno kho koliyaputto bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± bhagavato p±de siras± vandati, app±b±dha½ app±taªka½ lahuµµh±na½ bala½ ph±suvih±ra½ pucchati; evañca vadeti– ‘suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±reti. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± dukkh±hi tibb±hi khar±hi kaµuk±hi vedan±hi phuµµh± t²hi vitakkehi adhiv±seti– samm±sambuddho vata so bhagav± yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya dhamma½ deseti; suppaµipanno vata tassa bhagavato s±vakasaªgho yo imassa evar³passa dukkhassa pah±n±ya paµipanno; susukha½ vata nibb±na½ yatthida½ evar³pa½ dukkha½ na sa½vijjat²”’ti.
“Sukhin² hotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t±; arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±yat³”ti. Saha vacan± ca pana bhagavato suppav±s± koliyadh²t± sukhin² arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±yi.
“Eva½, bhante”ti kho so koliyaputto bhagavato bh±sita½ abhinanditv± anumoditv± uµµh±y±san± bhagavanta½ abhiv±detv± padakkhiºa½ katv± yena saka½ ghara½ tena pacc±y±si. Addas± kho so koliyaputto suppav±sa½ koliyadh²tara½ sukhini½ aroga½ aroga½ putta½ vij±ta½. Disv±nassa etadahosi– “acchariya½ vata, bho, abbhuta½ vata, bho, tath±gatassa mahiddhikat± mah±nubh±vat±, yatra hi n±m±ya½ suppav±s± koliyadh²t± saha vacan± ca pana [saha vacan± pana (p².), saha vacan± (?)] Bhagavato sukhin² arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±yissat²”ti! Attamano pamudito p²tisomanassaj±to ahosi.
Atha kho suppav±s± koliyadh²t± s±mika½ ±mantesi– “ehi tva½, ayyaputta, yena bhagav± tenupasaªkama; upasaªkamitv± mama vacanena bhagavato p±de siras± vand±hi– ‘suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± bhagavato p±de siras± vandat²’ti; evañca vadehi– ‘suppav±s±, bhante, koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±reti. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± etarahi sukhin² arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±t±. S± satt±ha½ buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ bhattena nimanteti. Adhiv±setu kira, bhante, bhagav± suppav±s±ya koliyadh²t±ya satta bhatt±ni saddhi½ bhikkhusaªghen±”’ti.

Adhiv±setu kira, bhante, bhagav± suppav±s±ya koliyadh²t±ya satta bhatt±ni saddhi½ bhikkhusaªghen±”’ti.
Tena kho pana samayena aññatarena up±sakena buddhappamukho bhikkhusaªgho sv±tan±ya bhattena nimantito hoti. So ca up±sako ±yasmato mah±moggall±nassa [mah±moggal±nassa (ka.)] upaµµh±ko hoti. Atha kho bhagav± ±yasmanta½ mah±moggall±na½ ±mantesi– “ehi tva½, moggall±na, yena so up±sako tenupasaªkama upasaªkamitv± ta½ up±saka½ eva½ vadehi– ‘suppav±s±, ±vuso, koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±resi. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± etarahi sukhin² arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±t±. S± satt±ha½ buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ bhattena nimanteti. Karotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta bhatt±ni, pacch± tva½ karissas²’ti [karissas²ti saññ±pehi (ka.)]. Tuyheso upaµµh±ko”ti.
“Eva½, bhante”ti kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no bhagavato paµissutv± yena so up±sako tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± ta½ up±saka½ etadavoca– “suppav±s±, ±vuso, koliyadh²t± satta vass±ni gabbha½ dh±reti. Satt±ha½ m³¼hagabbh± s± etarahi sukhin² arog± aroga½ putta½ vij±t±. S± satt±ha½ buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ bhattena nimanteti. Karotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta bhatt±ni, pacch± tva½ karissas²”ti.
“Sace me, bhante, ayyo mah±moggall±no tiººa½ dhamm±na½ p±µibhogo– bhog±nañca j²vitassa ca saddh±ya ca, karotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta bhatt±ni, pacch±ha½ kariss±m²”ti. “Dvinna½ kho te aha½ [dvinna½ kho tesa½ (p².), dvinna½ kho nesa½ (ka.)], ±vuso, dhamm±na½ p±µibhogo– bhog±nañca j²vitassa ca. Saddh±ya pana tva½yeva p±µibhogo”ti.
“Sace me, bhante, ayyo mah±moggall±no dvinna½ dhamm±na½ p±µibhogo– bhog±nañca j²vitassa ca, karotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta bhatt±ni, pacch±ha½ kariss±m²”ti.
Atha kho ±yasm± mah±moggall±no ta½ up±saka½ saññ±petv± yena bhagav± tenupasaªkami; upasaªkamitv± bhagavanta½ etadavoca– “saññatto [saññ±to (sy±.)], bhante, so up±sako may±; karotu suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satta bhatt±ni, pacch± so karissat²”ti.
Atha kho suppav±s± koliyadh²t± satt±ha½ buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ paº²tena kh±dan²yena bhojan²yena sahatth± santappesi sampav±resi, tañca d±raka½ bhagavanta½ vand±pesi sabbañca bhikkhusaªgha½.
Atha kho ±yasm± s±riputto ta½ d±raka½ etadavoca– “kacci te, d±raka, khaman²ya½, kacci y±pan²ya½, kacci na kiñci dukkhan”ti? “Kuto me, bhante s±riputta, khaman²ya½, kuto y±pan²ya½! Satta me vass±ni lohitakumbhiya½ vutt±n²”ti.
Atha kho suppav±s± koliyadh²t±– “putto me dhammasen±patin± saddhi½ mantet²”ti attaman± pamudit± p²tisomanassaj±t± ahosi. Atha kho bhagav± (suppav±sa½ kol²yadh²tara½ attamana½ pamudita½ p²tisomanassaj±ta½ viditv± [disv± (s².)]) [( ) natthi iªgalisapotthake] suppav±sa½ koliyadh²tara½ etadavoca– “iccheyy±si tva½, suppav±se, aññampi evar³pa½ puttan”ti? “Iccheyy±maha½, bhagav±, aññ±nipi evar³p±ni satta putt±n²”ti
Atha kho bhagav± etamattha½ viditv± t±ya½ vel±ya½ ima½ ud±na½ ud±nesi–
“As±ta½ s±tar³pena, piyar³pena appiya½;
dukkha½ sukhassa r³pena, pamattamativattat²”ti. Aµµhama½.
