Macchik±saº¹anagarasmiñhi citto n±ma gahapati pañcavaggiy±na½ abbhantara½ mah±n±matthera½ n±ma piº¹±ya caram±na½ disv± tassa iriy±pathe pas²ditv± patta½ ±d±ya geha½ pavesetv± bhojetv± bhattakicc±vas±ne dhammakatha½ suºanto sot±pattiphala½ patv± acalasaddho hutv± amb±µakavana½ n±ma attano uyy±na½ saªgh±r±ma½ kattuk±mo therassa hatthe udaka½ p±tetv± niyy±desi. Tasmi½ khaºe “patiµµhita½ buddhas±sanan”ti udakapariyanta½ katv± mah±pathav² kampi. Mah±seµµhi uyy±ne mah±vih±ra½ k±retv± sabbadis±hi ±gat±na½ bhikkh³na½ vivaµadv±ro ahosi. Macchik±saº¹e sudhammatthero n±ma nev±siko ahosi.
Aparena samayena cittassa guºakatha½ sutv± dve aggas±vak± tassa saªgaha½ kattuk±m± macchik±saº¹a½ agama½su. Citto gahapati tesa½ ±gamana½ sutv± a¹¹hayojanamagga½ paccuggantv± te ±d±ya attano vih±ra½ pavesetv± ±gantukavatta½ katv±, “bhante, thoka½ dhammakatha½ sotuk±momh²”ti dhammasen±pati½ y±ci. Atha na½ thero, “up±saka, addh±nena ±gat±mh± kilantar³p±. Apica thoka½ suº±h²”ti tassa dhamma½ kathesi. So therassa dhamma½ suºantova an±g±miphala½ p±puºi. So dve aggas±vake vanditv±, “bhante, sve bhikkhusahassena saddhi½ mama gehe bhikkha½ gaºhath±”ti nimantetv± pacch± nev±sika½ sudhammatthera½ “tumhepi, bhante, sve therehi saddhi½ ±gaccheyy±th±”ti nimantesi. So “aya½ ma½ pacch± nimantet²”ti kuddho paµikkhipitv± punappuna½ y±ciyam±nopi paµikkhipi eva. Up±sako “paññ±yissatha, bhante”ti pakkamitv± punadivase attano nivesane mah±d±na½ sajjesi. Sudhammattheropi pacc³sak±leyeva “k²diso nu kho gahapatin± aggas±vak±na½ sakk±ro sajjito, sve gantv± passiss±m²”ti cintetv± p±tova pattac²vara½ ±d±ya tassa geha½ agam±si.
So gahapatin± “nis²datha, bhante”ti vuccam±nopi “n±ha½ nis²d±mi, piº¹±ya cariss±m²”ti vatv± aggas±vak±na½ paµiy±dita½ sakk±ra½ oloketv± gahapati½ j±tiy± ghaµµetuk±mo “u¼±ro te, gahapati, sakk±ro, apicettha ekaññeva natth²”ti ±ha. “Ki½, bhante”ti? “Tilasa½gu¼ik±, gahapat²”ti vatv± gahapatin± k±kopam±ya apas±dito kujjhitv± “eso te, gahapati, ±v±so, pakkamiss±mahan”ti vatv± y±vatatiya½ v±riyam±nopi pakkamitv± satthu santika½ gantv± cittena ca attan± ca vuttavacana½ ±rocesi. Satth± “tay± up±sako saddho pasanno h²nena khu½sito”ti tasseva dosa½ ±ropetv± paµis±raº²yakamma½ k±r±petv± “gaccha, cittagahapati½ kham±peh²”ti pesesi. So tattha gantv±, “gahapati, mayhameva so doso, kham±hi me”ti vatv±pi “n±ha½ kham±m²”ti tena paµikkhitto maªkubh³to ta½ kham±petu½ n±sakkhi. Punadeva satthu santika½ pacc±gam±si. Satth± “n±ssa up±sako khamissat²”ti j±nantopi “m±nathaddho esa, ti½sayojana½ t±va magga½ gantv± pacc±gacchat³”ti khaman³p±ya½ an±cikkhitv±va uyyojesi. Athassa pun±gatak±le nihatam±nassa anud³ta½ datv± “gaccha, imin± saddhi½ gantv± up±saka½ kham±peh²”ti vatv± “samaºena n±ma ‘mayha½ vih±ro, mayha½ niv±saµµh±na½, mayha½ up±sako, mayha½ up±sik±’ti m±na½ v± issa½ v± k±tu½ na vaµµati. Eva½ karontassa hi icch±m±n±dayo kiles± va¹¹hant²”ti anusandhi½ ghaµµetv± dhamma½ desento im± g±th± abh±si–

Tattha asantanti yo b±lo bhikkhu avijjam±na½ sambh±vana½ iccheyya, “assaddhova sam±no ‘saddhoti ma½ jano j±n±t³’ti icchat²”ti. P±picchat±niddese (vibha. 851) vuttanayeneva b±lo “asaddho duss²lo appassuto appavivitto kus²to anupaµµhitassati asam±hito duppañño akh²º±savova sam±no ‘aho vata ma½ jano aya½ saddho, s²lav±, bahussuto, pavivitto, ±raddhav²riyo, upaµµhitassati, sam±hito, paññav± kh²º±savo’ti j±neyy±”ti ida½ asantasambh±vana½ icchati. Purekkh±ranti pariv±ra½. “Aho vata ma½ sakalavih±re bhikkh³ pariv±retv± pañha½ pucchant± vihareyyun”ti eva½ icch±c±re µhatv± purekkh±rañca bhikkh³su icchati. ¾v±ses³ti saªghikesu ca ±v±sesu y±ni vih±ramajjhe paº²tasen±san±ni, t±ni attano sandiµµhasambhatt±d²na½ bhikkh³na½ “tumhe idha vasath±”ti vic±rento sayampi varatara½ sen±sana½ palibodhento, ses±na½ ±gantukabhikkh³na½ paccantim±ni l±makasen±san±ni ceva amanussapariggahit±ni ca “tumhe idha vasath±”ti vic±rento ±v±sesu issariya½ icchati. P³j± parakulesu c±ti neva m±t±pit³na½ na ñ±tak±na½ paresuyeva kulesu “aho vatime mayhameva dadeyyu½, na aññesan”ti eva½ catuppaccayehi p³ja½ icchati.
Mameva kata maññant³ti yassa ca b±lassa “ya½kiñci vih±re uposath±g±r±dikaraºavasena kata½ navakamma½, ta½ sabba½ amh±ka½ therena katanti eva½ gih² ca pabbajit± ca ubhopi mameva niss±ya kata½ parikamma½ niµµhita½ maññant³”ti saªkappo uppajjati. Mamev±tivas± ass³ti “gih² ca pabbajit± ca sabbepi mameva vase vattantu, sakaµagoºav±sipharasu-±d²ni v± laddhabb±ni hontu, antamaso y±gumattampi t±petv± pivan±d²ni v±, evar³pesu kicc±kiccesu khuddakamahantesu karaº²yesu kismiñci ekakiccepi mameva vase vattantu, mameva ±pucchitv± karont³”ti saªkappo uppajjati. Iti b±lass±ti yassa b±lassa s± ca icch± ayañca evar³po saªkappo uppajjati, tassa neva vipassan±, na maggaphal±ni va¹¹hanti. Kevala½ panassa candodaye samuddassa udaka½ viya chasu dv±resu uppajjam±n± taºh± ceva navavidham±no ca va¹¹hat²ti.

Sudhammattheropi ima½ ov±da½ sutv± satth±ra½ vanditv± uµµh±y±san± padakkhiºa½ katv± tena anud³tena bhikkhun± saddhi½ gantv± up±sakassa cakkhupathe ±patti½ paµikaritv± up±saka½ kham±pesi. So up±sakena “kham±maha½, bhante, sace mayha½ doso atthi, khamatha me”ti paµikham±pito satth±r± dinne ov±de µhatv± katip±heneva saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ p±puºi. Up±sakopi cintesi– “may± satth±ra½ adisv±va sot±pattiphala½ patta½, adisv± eva an±g±miphale patiµµhito, satth±ra½ me daµµhu½ vaµµat²”ti. So tilataº¹ulasappiph±ºitavatthacch±dan±d²hi parip³r±ni pañca sakaµasat±ni yoj±petv± “satth±ra½ daµµhuk±m± ±gacchantu, piº¹ap±t±d²hi na kilamissant²”ti bhikkhusaªghassa ±roc±petv± bhikkhun²saªghass±pi up±sak±nampi up±sik±nampi ±roc±pesi. Tena saddhi½ pañcasat± pañcasat± bhikkh³ ca bhikkhuniyo ca up±sak± ca up±sik±yo ca nikkhami½su. So tesañceva attano paris±ya c±ti tiººa½ janasahass±na½ yath± ti½sayojane magge y±gubhatt±d²hi kiñci vekalla½ na hoti, tath± sa½vidahi. Eva½ devat±hi upaµµhiyam±no devasika½ yojana½ gacchanto m±sena s±vatthi½ p±puºi, pañca sakaµasat±ni yath±p³rit±neva ahesu½. Devat±hi ceva manussehi ca abhihaµa½ paºº±k±ra½ vissajjentova agam±si.
Satth± ±nandatthera½ ±ha– “±nanda, ajja va¹¹ham±nakacch±y±ya citto gahapati pañcahi up±sakasatehi parivuto ±gantv± ma½ vandissat²”ti. “Ki½ pana, bhante, tassa tumh±ka½ vandanak±le kiñci p±µih±riya½ bhavissat²”ti? “Bhavissati, ±nand±”ti. “Ki½, bhante”ti? Tassa ±gantv± “ma½ vandanak±le r±jam±nena aµµhakar²samatte padese jaººukamattena odhin± pañcavaºº±na½ dibbapupph±na½ ghanavassa½ vassissat²”ti. Ta½ katha½ sutv± nagarav±sino “eva½ mah±puñño kira citto n±ma gahapati ±gantv± ajja satth±ra½ vandissati, evar³pa½ kira p±µih±riya½ bhavissati, mayampi ta½ mah±puñña½ daµµhu½ labhiss±m±”ti paºº±k±ra½ ±d±ya maggassa ubhosu passesu aµµha½su. Vih±rasam²pe ±gatak±le pañca bhikkhusat±ni paµhama½ ±gami½su. Citto gahapati, “amm±, tumhe pacchato ±gacchath±”ti mah±-up±sik±yo µhapetv± pañcahi up±sakasatehi parivuto satthu santika½ agam±si. Buddh±na½ sammukhaµµh±ne pana µhit± v± nisinn± v± ito v± etto v± na honti, buddhav²thiy± dv²su passesu niccal±va tiµµhanti. Citto gahapati mahanta½ buddhav²thi½ okkami. T²ºi phal±ni pattena ariyas±vakena olokitolokitaµµh±na½ kampi. “Eso kira citto gahapat²”ti mah±jano olokesi So satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± chabbaºº±na½ buddharasm²na½ anto pavisitv± dv²su gopphakesu satthu p±de gahetv± vandi. Ta½ khaºaññeva vuttappak±ra½ pupphavassa½ vassi, s±dhuk±rasahass±ni pavattayi½su. So ekam±sa½ satthu santike vasi, vasam±no ca sakala½ buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ vih±reyeva nis²d±petv± mah±d±na½ ad±si, attan± saddhi½ ±gatepi antovih±reyeva katv± paµijaggi. Ekadivasampi attano sakaµesu kiñci gahetabba½ n±hosi, devamanussehi ±bhatapaºº±k±reneva d±na½ ad±si, sabbakicc±ni ak±si. So satth±ra½ vanditv± ±ha– “bhante, aha½ ‘tumh±ka½ d±na½ dass±m²’ti ±gacchanto m±sa½ antar±magge ahosi½. Idheva me m±so v²tivatto, may± ±bhata½ paºº±k±ra½ kiñci gahetu½ na labh±mi, ettaka½ k±la½ devamanussehi ±bhatapaºº±k±reneva d±na½ ad±si½, soha½ sacepi idha sa½vacchara½ vasiss±mi, neva mama deyyadhamma½ d±tu½ labhiss±mi. Aha½ sakaµ±ni ot±retv± gantu½ icch±mi, paµis±manaµµh±na½ me ±roc±peth±”ti.
Satth± ±nandatthera½ ±ha– “±nanda, up±sakassa eka½ padesa½ tuccha½ k±retv± deh²”ti. Thero tath± ak±si. Kappiyabh³mi (mah±va. 295) kira cittassa gahapatino anuññ±t±. Up±sakopi attan± saddhi½ ±gatehi t²hi janasahassehi saddhi½ tucchasakaµehi puna magga½ paµipajji. Devamanuss± uµµh±ya, “ayya, tay± tucchasakaµehi gamanakamma½ katan”ti sattahi ratanehi sakaµ±ni p³rayi½su. So attano ±bhatapaºº±k±reneva mah±jana½ paµijagganto agam±si. ¾nandatthero satth±ra½ vanditv± ±ha– “bhante, tumh±ka½ santika½ ±gacchantopi m±sena ±gato, idh±pi m±sameva vuµµho, ettaka½ k±la½ devamanussehi abhihaµapaºº±k±reneva mah±vad±na½ ad±si, id±ni pañca sakaµasat±ni tucch±ni katv± m±seneva kira gamissati, devamanuss± panassa uµµh±ya, ‘ayya tay± tucchasakaµehi gamanakamma½ katan’ti pañca sakaµasat±ni sattaratanehi p³rayi½su. So puna attano ±bhatapaºº±k±reneva kira mah±jana½ paµijagganto gamissat²”ti. “Ki½ pana, bhante, etassa tumh±ka½ santika½ ±gacchantassev±ya½ sakk±ro uppajjati, ud±hu aññattha gacchantass±pi uppajjat²”ti? “¾nanda, mama santika½ ±gacchantass±pi aññattha gacchantass±pi etassa uppajjateva. Ayañhi up±sako saddho pasanno sampannas²lo, evar³po puggalo ya½ ya½ padesa½ bhajati, tattha tatthevassa l±bhasakk±ro nibbattat²”ti vatv± satth± ima½ pakiººakavagge g±tham±ha–
“Saddho s²lena sampanno, yaso bhogasamappito;

Id±nipissa j±tadivase ceva idha ca ±gatassa pupphavassavassanañca paºº±k±r±bhih±ro ca sattahi ratanehi sakaµap³raºañca tasseva kammassa nissandoti.
