Itaro ta½ gahetv±va cintesi– “sace so evar³pa½ piº¹ap±ta½ bhuñjissati, imasmi½yeva µh±ne paluddho bhavissat²”ti antar±magge ta½ piº¹ap±ta½ cha¹¹etv± therassa vasanaµµh±na½ gantv± ta½ tattha olokento na addasa. Atha na½ ettakassa kammassa katatt± v²sativassasahass±ni katopi samaºadhammo rakkhitu½ n±sakkhi. ¾yupariyos±ne pana k±la½ katv± av²cimhi nibbattitv± eka½ buddhantara½ mah±dukkha½ anubhavitv± imasmi½ buddhupp±de r±jagahanagare ekasmi½ bahvannap±ne kulaghare nibbatti. Mah±jano ta½ disv± upasaªkamitv± vanditv±, “bhante, kasm± ayyo mukha½ vivaritv± µhito”ti pucchati. “Aha½ v±tabhakkho, añño me ±h±ro natth²”ti. Atha “kasm± eka½ p±da½ jaººuke katv± µhitosi, bhante”ti? “Aha½ uggatapo ghoratapo, may± dv²hi p±dehi akkant± pathav² kampati, tasm± eka½ p±da½ ukkhipitv± jaººuke µhapetv± µhitomhi. Ahañhi rattindiva½ µhitakova v²tin±memi, na nis²d±mi, na nipajj±m²”ti. Manuss± n±ma yebhuyyena vacanamattameva saddahanti, tasm± “aho acchariya½, evar³p±pi n±ma tapassino honti, na no evar³p± diµµhapubb±”ti yebhuyyena aªgamagadhav±sino saªkhubhitv± upasaªkamitv± m±se m±se mahanta½ sakk±ra½ abhiharanti. So “aha½ v±tameva bhakkh±mi, na añña½ ±h±ra½. Aññañhi me kh±dantassa tapo nassat²”ti tehi abhihaµa½ na kiñci icchati. Manuss± “m± no, bhante, n±setha, tumh±disena ghoratapena paribhoge kate amh±ka½ d²gharatta½ hit±ya sukh±ya sa½vattat²”ti punappuna½ y±canti. Tassa añño ±h±ro na ruccati. Mah±janassa pana y±can±ya p²¼ito tehi ±bhat±ni sappiph±ºit±d²ni kusaggena jivhagge µhapetv± “gacchatha, ala½ vo ettaka½ hit±ya sukh±ya c±”ti uyyojesi. Eva½ so pañcapaññ±sa vass±ni naggo g³tha½ kh±danto kese luñcanto bh³miya½ sayam±no v²tin±mesi.
Buddh±nampi kho pacc³sak±le lokavolokana½ avijahitameva hoti. Tasm± ekadivasa½ bhagavato pacc³sasamaye loka½ volokentassa aya½ jambuk±j²vako ñ±ºaj±lassa anto paññ±yi. Satth± “ki½ nu kho bhavissat²”ti ±vajjetv± tassa saha paµisambhid±hi arahattass³panissaya½ disv± “aha½ eta½ ±di½ katv± eka½ g±tha½ bh±siss±mi, g±th±vas±ne catur±s²tiy± p±ºasahass±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo bhavissati. Ima½ kulaputta½ niss±ya mah±jano sotthibh±va½ p±puºissat²”ti ñatv± punadivase r±jagahe piº¹±ya caritv± piº¹ap±tapaµikkanto ±nandatthera½ ±mantesi– “±nanda, jambuk±j²vakassa santika½ gamiss±m²”ti. “Bhante, ki½ tumheyeva gamissath±”ti? “¾ma, ahamev±”ti eva½ vatv± satth± va¹¹ham±nakacch±y±ya tassa santika½ p±y±si.
Devat± cintayi½su– “satth± s±ya½ jambuk±j²vakassa santika½ gacchati, so ca jegucche ucc±rapass±vadantakaµµhakiliµµhe piµµhip±s±ºe vasati, deva½ vass±petu½ vaµµat²”ti attano ±nubh±vena ta½ muhutta½yeva deva½ vass±pesu½. Piµµhip±s±ºo suci nimmalo ahosi. Athassa upari pañcavaººa½ pupphavassa½ vass±pesu½. Satth± s±ya½ jambuk±j²vakassa santika½ gantv± “jambuk±”ti saddamak±si. Jambuko “ko nu kho esa, dujjano ma½ jambukav±dena vadat²”ti cintetv± “ko eso”ti ±ha. “Aha½ samaºo”ti. “Ki½ mah±samaº±”ti? “Ajja me ekaratti½ idha vasanaµµh±na½ deh²”ti. “Natthi, mah±samaºa, imasmi½ µh±ne vasanaµµh±nan”ti “Jambuka, m± eva½ kari, ekaratti½ me vasanaµµh±na½ dehi, pabbajit± n±ma pabbajita½ patthenti, manuss± manussa½, pasavo pasavan”ti. “Ki½ pana tva½ pabbajito”ti? “¾ma, pabbajitomh²”ti. “Sace tva½ pabbajito, kaha½ te l±buka½, kaha½ dh³makaµacchuko, kaha½ yaññasuttakan”ti? “‘Attheta½ mayha½, visu½ visu½ pana gahetv± vicaraºa½ dukkhan’ti abbhantareneva gahetv± car±m²”ti. So “carissasi tva½ eta½ aggaºhitv±”ti kujjhi. Atha na½ satth± ±ha– “hotu, jambuka, m± kujjha, vasanaµµh±na½ me ±cikkh±”ti. “Natthi, mah±samaºa, ettha vasanaµµh±nan”ti.
Satth± tassa vasanaµµh±nato avid³re eka½ pabbh±ra½ atthi, ta½ niddisanto “etasmi½ pabbh±re ko vasat²”ti ±ha. “Natthi koci, mah±samaº±”ti. “Tena hi eta½ mayha½ deh²”ti “Tvaññeva j±na, mah±samaº±”ti. Satth± pabbh±re nis²dana½ paññ±petv± nis²di. Paµhamay±me catt±ro mah±r±j±no catuddisa½ ekobh±sa½ karont± satthu upaµµh±na½ ±gami½su. Jambuko obh±sa½ disv± “ko obh±so n±meso”ti cintesi. Majjhimay±me sakko devar±j± ±gami. Jambuko tampi disv± “ko n±meso”ti cintesi. Pacchimay±me ek±ya aªguliy± eka½, dv²hi dve, dasahi dasa cakkav±¼±ni obh±setu½ samattho mah±brahm± sakala½ arañña½ ekobh±sa½ karonto ±gami. Ahañhi ettaka½ addh±na½ v±tabhakkho hutv± µhitakova v²tin±mesi½, na t±va te mayha½ upaµµh±na½ ±gatapubb±”ti.
Atha na½ satth± ±ha– jambuka, tva½ lokasmi½ andhab±la½ mah±jana½ vañcayam±no mampi vañcetuk±mo j±to, nanu tva½ pañcapaññ±sa vass±ni g³thameva kh±di, bh³miya½yeva nipajji, naggo hutv± vicari, t±laµµhikhaº¹ena kese luñci. Atha ca pana loka½ vañcento “aha½ v±tabhakkho, ekap±dena tiµµh±mi, na nis²d±mi, na nipajj±m²”ti vadesi, “mamampi vañcetuk±mosi pubbepi tva½ p±pika½ l±mika½ diµµhi½ niss±ya ettaka½ k±la½ g³thabhakkho bh³misayo naggo vicaranto t±laµµhikhaº¹ena kesaluñcana½ patto, id±nipi p±pika½ l±mika½ diµµhimeva gaºh±s²”ti. “Ki½ pana may± kata½, mah±samaº±”ti? Athassa satth± pubbe katakamma½ ±cikkhi. Tassa satthari kathenteyeva sa½vego uppajji, hirottappa½ upaµµhita½, so ukkuµiko nis²di. Athassa satth± udakas±µika½ khipitv± ad±si. So desan±vas±ne saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ patv± satth±ra½ vanditv± uµµh±y±san± pabbajjañca upasampadañca y±ci. Ett±vat± tassa purimakamma½ parikkh²ºa½. Ayañhi kh²º±savamah±thera½ cat³hi akkosehi akkositv± y±v±ya½ mah±pathav² tig±vut±dhika½ yojana½ ussann±, t±va av²cimhi paccitv± tattha pakk±vasesena pañcapaññ±sa vass±ni ima½ vippak±ra½ patto. Tenassa ta½ kamma½ kh²ºa½. V²sati pana vassasahass±ni imin± katassa samaºadhammassa phala½ n±setu½ na sakk±. Tasm± satth± dakkhiºahattha½ pas±retv± “ehi, bhikkhu, cara brahmacariya½ samm± dukkhassa antakiriy±y±”ti ±ha. T±vadevassa gihiliªga½ antaradh±yi aµµhaparikkh±radharo saµµhivassikamah±thero viya ahosi.
Aªgamagadhav±s²na½ tassa sakk±ra½ gahetv± ±gatadivaso kiresa, tasm± ubhayaraµµhav±sino sakk±ra½ gahetv± ±gat± tath±gata½ disv± “ki½ nu kho amh±ka½ ayyo jambuko mah±, ud±hu samaºo gotamo”ti cintetv± “sace samaºo gotamo mah± bhaveyya, aya½ samaºassa gotamassa santika½ gaccheyya, jambuk±j²vakassa pana mahantat±ya samaºo gotamo imassa santika½ ±gato”ti cintayi½su. Satth± mah±janassa parivitakka½ ñatv±, “jambuka, tava upaµµh±k±na½ kaªkha½ chind±h²”ti ±ha, so “ahampi, bhante, ettakameva pacc±s²s±m²”ti vatv± catutthajjh±na½ sam±pajjitv± uµµh±ya t±lappam±ºa½ veh±sa½ abbhuggantv± “satth± me, bhante bhagav±, s±vakohamasm²”ti vatv± oruyha vanditv± puna dvit±lamatta½ tit±lamattanti eva½ sattat±lamatta½ veh±sa½ abbhuggantv± oruyha attano s±vakabh±va½ j±n±pesi. Ta½ disv± mah±jano “aho buddh± n±ma acchariy± anopamaguº±”ti cintesi. Na so saªkh±tadhamm±na½, kala½ agghati so¼asinti saªkh±tadhamm± vuccanti ñ±tadhamm± tulitadhamm±. Tesu heµµhimakoµiy± sot±panno saªkh±tadhammo, uparimakoµiy± kh²º±savo. Imesa½ saªkh±tadhamm±na½ so b±lo kala½ na agghati so¼asinti puggal±dhiµµh±n± desan±. Aya½ panettha attho– y± cassa tath± tapacaraºa½ p³rentassa vassasata½ cetan± y± ca saªkh±tadhamm±na½ k±la½ v± bhatta½ v± kukkucc±yitv± abhuñjant±na½ ek± bhattacchedanakusalacetan±, tass± cetan±ya s± t±va d²gharatta½ pavattacetan± so¼asi½ kala½ na agghati.
