So kuddho viya hutv±, “amma, ki½ vadesi, mayha½ upaµµh±napupphehi tena p³j± kat±”ti? “¾ma, dev±”ti. “Bhaddaka½ te kata½ ta½ cha¹¹entiy±, mama pupphehi p³j±k±rassa aha½ kattabbayuttaka½ j±niss±m²”ti ta½ uyyojetv± vegena satthu santika½ gantv± vanditv± satth±r± saddhi½yeva vicari.
Satth± rańńo cittappas±da½ ńatv± bhericaraŗav²thiy± nagara½ caritv± rańńo gharadv±ra½ agam±si. R±j± patta½ gahetv± satth±ra½ geha½ pavesetuk±mo ahosi. Satth± pana r±jaŖgaŗeyeva nis²dan±k±ra½ dassesi R±j± ta½ ńatv± “s²gha½ maŗ¹apa½ karoth±”ti taŖkhaŗańńeva maŗ¹apa½ k±r±pesi. Nis²di satth± saddhi½ bhikkhusaŖghena. Eva½ kirassa ahosi– “sac±ha½ anto pavisitv± nis²deyya½, mah±jano ma½ daµµhu½ na labheyya, m±l±k±rassa guŗo p±kaµo na bhaveyya, r±jaŖgaŗe pana ma½ nisinna½ mah±jano daµµhu½ labhissati, m±l±k±rassa guŗo p±kaµo bhavissat²”ti. Guŗavant±nańhi guŗa½ buddh± eva p±kaµa½ k±tu½ sakkonti, avasesajano guŗavant±na½ guŗa½ kathento macchar±yati. Catt±ro pupphapaµ± catuddisa½ aµµha½su. Mah±jano satth±ra½ pariv±resi. R±j± buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaŖgha½ paŗ²ten±h±rena parivisi. Satth± bhattakicc±vas±ne anumodana½ katv± purimanayeneva cat³hi pupphapaµehi parikkhitto s²han±da½ nadanto mah±janena parivuto vih±ra½ agam±si. R±j± satth±ra½ anugantv± nivatto m±l±k±ra½ pakkos±petv± “mama ±haritapupphehi kinti katv± satth±ra½ p³jes²”ti pucchi. M±l±k±ro “r±j± ma½ gh±tetu v± raµµhato v± pabb±jet³ti j²vita½ pariccajitv± p³jesi½ dev±”ti ±ha. Atha na½ satth± ±ha– “±nanda, imin± m±l±k±rena appamattaka½ kamma½ katan”ti m± sallakkhesi, ayańhi mayha½ j²vita½ pariccajitv± p³ja½ ak±si. So eva½ mayi citta½ pas±detv±–
“Kapp±na½ satasahassa½, duggati½ na gamissati;
µhatv± devamanussesu, phala½ etassa kammuno;
pacch± paccekasambuddho, sumano n±ma bhavissat²”ti.–

¾ha. Satthu pana vih±ra½ gantv± gandhakuµipavisanak±le t±ni pupph±ni dv±rakoµµhake pati½su. S±yanhasamaye bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½ “aho acchariya½ m±l±k±rassa kamma½, dharam±nakabuddhassa j²vita½ pariccajitv± pupphap³ja½ katv± taŖkhaŗańńeva sabbaµµhaka½ n±ma labhat²”ti. Satth± gandhakuµito nikkhamitv± tiŗŗa½ gaman±na½ ańńatarena gamanena dhammasabha½ gantv± buddh±sane nis²ditv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte, “±ma, bhikkhave, yassa kammassa katatt± pacch±nutappa½ na hoti, anussarit±nussaritakkhaŗe somanassameva uppajjati, evar³pa½ kamma½ kattabbamev±”ti anusandhi½ ghaµetv± dhamma½ desento ima½ g±tham±ha–

Tattha ya½ katv±ti ya½ devamanussasampatt²nańceva nibb±nasampattiy± ca nibbattanasamattha½ sukhudraya½ kamma½ katv± n±nutappati, atha kho diµµhadhammeyeva anussarit±nussaritakkhaŗeyeva p²tivegena pat²to somanassavegena ca sumano hutv± ±yati½ p²tisomanassaj±to hutv± vip±ka½ paµisevati, ta½ kamma½ kata½ s±dhu bhaddakanti.
