Daharo aggis±la½ gantv± bh±jane u¼uŖka½ ot±retv± tucchabh±va½ ńatv± “passatha duµµhassa kamma½ tucchabh±jana½ uddhane ±ropetv± kuhi½ gato, aha½ ‘koµµhake udakan’ti sańń±ya ±rocesin”ti ujjh±yanto ghaµa½ ±d±ya tittha½ agam±si. Thero cintesi– “aya½ daharo ‘udaka½ me t±petv± koµµhake µhapita½, etha, bhante, nh±yath±’ti vatv± id±ni ujjh±yanto ghaµa½ ±d±ya tittha½ gacchati, ki½ nu kho etan”ti upadh±rento “ettaka½ k±la½ esa daharo imin± kata½ vatta½ attan±va kata½ viya pak±set²”ti ńatv± s±ya½ ±gantv± nisinnassa ov±damad±si, “±vuso, bhikkhun± n±ma ‘attan± katameva katan’ti vattu½ vaµµati, no akata½, tva½ id±neva ‘koµµhake udaka½ µhapita½, nh±yatha, bhante’ti vatv± mayi pavisitv± µhite ghaµa½ ±d±ya ujjh±yanto gacchasi, pabbajitassa n±ma eva½ k±tu½ na vaµµat²”ti. So tasmi½ gate therassa upaµµh±kakula½ gantv± “thero kaha½, bhante”ti puµµho “therassa aph±suka½ j±ta½, vih±reyeva nisinno”ti ±ha. “Ki½ pana, bhante, laddhu½ vaµµat²”ti? “Evar³pa½ kira n±ma ±h±ra½ deth±”ti vutte tena vuttaniy±meneva samp±detv± ada½su. So antar±maggeva ta½ bhatta½ bhuńjitv± vih±ra½ gato. Theropi gataµµh±ne mahanta½ sukhumavattha½ labhitv± attan± saddhi½ gatadaharassa ad±si. So ta½ rajitv± attano niv±sanap±rupana½ ak±si.
Thero punadivase ta½ upaµµh±kakula½ gantv±, “bhante, ‘tumh±ka½ kira aph±suka½ j±tan’ti amhehi daharena vuttaniy±meneva paµiy±detv± ±h±ro pesito, paribhuńjitv± vo ph±suka½ j±tan”ti vutte tuŗh² ahosi. Vih±ra½ pana gantv± ta½ dahara½ vanditv± nisinna½ evam±ha– “±vuso, tay± kira hiyyo, ida½ n±ma kata½, ida½ pabbajit±na½ na anucchavika½, vińńatti½ katv± bhuńjitu½ na vaµµat²”ti. Atheko bhikkhu aparabh±ge r±jagah± nikkhamitv± satth±ra½ daµµhuk±mo jetavana½ gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± satth±r± paµisanth±ra½ katv± “kuto ±gatos²”ti puµµho “r±jagahato, bhante”ti ±ha. “Mama puttassa mah±kassapassa khaman²yan”ti? “Khaman²ya½, bhante, eko pana saddhivih±riko ov±damattena kujjhitv± paŗŗas±la½ jh±petv± pal±to”ti. Satth± “na so id±neva ov±da½ sutv± kujjhati, pubbepi kujjhiyeva. Na id±neva kuµi½ d³seti, pubbepi d³sesiyev±”ti vatv± at²ta½ ±hari–
At²te b±r±ŗasiya½ brahmadatte rajja½ k±rente himavantapadese eko siŖgilasakuŗo kul±vaka½ katv± vasi. Athekadivasa½ deve vassante eko makkaµo s²tena kampam±no ta½ padesa½ agam±si. SiŖgilo ta½ disv± g±tham±ha–
“Manussasseva te s²sa½, hatthap±d± ca v±nara;

61. “Carańce n±dhigaccheyya, seyya½ sadisamattano;
ekacariya½ da¼ha½ kayir±, natthi b±le sah±yat±”ti.
Tattha caranti iriy±pathac±ra½ aggahetv± manas±c±ro veditabbo, kaly±ŗamitta½ pariyesantoti attho. Seyya½ sadisamattanoti attano s²lasam±dhipańń±guŗehi adhikatara½ v± sadisa½ v± na labheyya ce. Ekacariyanti etesu hi seyya½ labham±no s²l±d²hi va¹¹hati, sadisa½ labham±no na parih±yati, h²nena pana saddhi½ ekato vasanto ekato sa½bhogaparibhoga½ karonto s²l±d²hi parih±yati. Tena vutta½– “evar³po puggalo na sevitabbo na bhajitabbo na payirup±sitabbo ańńatra anudday± ańńatra anukamp±”ti (pu. pa. 121; a. ni. 3.26). Tasm± sace k±ruńńa½ paµicca “aya½ ma½ niss±ya s²l±d²hi va¹¹hissat²”ti tamh± puggal± kińci apacc±s²santo ta½ saŖgaŗhitu½ sakkoti, icceta½ kusala½ No ce sakkoti, ekacariya½ da¼ha½ kayir± ek²bh±vameva thira½ katv± sabba-iriy±pathesu ekakova vihareyya. Ki½ k±raŗ±? Natthi b±le sah±yat±ti sah±yat± n±ma c³¼as²la½ majjhimas²la½ mah±s²la½ dasa kath±vatth³ni terasa dhutaŖgaguŗ± vipassan±guŗ± catt±ro magg± catt±ri phal±ni tisso vijj± cha abhińń±. Aya½ sah±yat±guŗo b±la½ niss±ya natth²ti.
