Tattha d²gh±ti ratti n±mes± tiy±mamatt±va, j±garantassa pana d²gh± hoti, dviguºatiguº± viya hutv± kh±yati. Tass± d²ghabh±va½ att±na½ maªkuºasaªghassa bhatta½ katv± y±va s³riyuggaman± samparivattaka½ sem±no mah±kus²topi, subhojana½ bhuñjitv± sirisayane sayam±no k±mabhog²pi na j±n±ti, sabbaratti½ pana padh±na½ padahanto yog±vacaro ca, dhammakatha½ kathento dhammakathiko ca, ±sanasam²pe µhatv± dhamma½ suºanto ca, s²sarog±diphuµµho v± hatthap±dacchedan±di½ patto v± vedan±bhibh³to ca, ratti½ maggapaµipanno addhiko ca j±n±ti. Yojananti yojanampi catug±vutamattameva, santassa pana kilantassa d²gha½ hoti, dviguºatiguºa½ viya kh±yati. Sakaladivasañhi magga½ gantv± kilanto paµipatha½ ±gacchanta½ disv± “purato g±mo k²vad³ro”ti pucchitv± “yojanan”ti vutte thoka½ gantv± aparampi pucchitv± ten±pi “yojanan”ti vutte puna thoka½ gantv± aparampi pucchati. Sopi “yojanan”ti vadati. So pucchitapucchit± yojananteva vadanti, d²gha½ vatida½ yojana½, ekayojana½ dve t²ºi yojan±ni viya maññeti. B±l±nanti idhalokaparalokattha½ pana aj±nant±na½ b±l±na½ sa½s±ravaµµassa pariyanta½ k±tu½ asakkont±na½ ya½ sattati½sabodhipakkhiyabheda½ saddhamma½ ñatv± sa½s±rassa anta½ karonti, ta½ saddhamma½ avij±nata½ sa½s±ro d²gho n±ma hoti. So hi attano dhammat±ya eva d²gho n±ma. Vuttampi ceta½– “anamataggoya½, bhikkhave, sa½s±ro, pubb± koµi na paññ±yat²”ti (sa½. ni. 2.124). B±l±na½ pana pariyanta½ k±tu½ asakkont±na½ atid²ghoyev±ti.
Desan±vas±ne so puriso sot±pattiphala½ patto, aññepi bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni patt±. Mah±janassa s±tthik± dhammadesan± j±t±ti.
R±j± satth±ra½ vanditv± gacchantoyeva te satte bandhan± mocesi. Tattha itthipuris± bandhan± mutt± s²sa½ nhatv± sak±ni geh±ni gacchant± “cira½ j²vatu no, ayy±, mallik± dev², ta½ niss±ya j²vita½ labhimh±”ti mallik±ya guºakatha½ kathayi½su. S±yanhasamaye bhikkh³ dhammasabh±ya½ katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “aho paº¹it± vat±ya½, mallik±, attano pañña½ niss±ya ettakassa janassa j²vitad±na½ ad±s²”ti. R±j±pi ta½ ±º±pesi. S± ±gantv± tesa½ r±j³na½ pariyante nisinnampi attano r±j±nameva vandi. R±j± “mayi sabbar±jajeµµhake µhite sabbakaniµµha½ attano s±mika½ vandat²”ti tass± kujjhi. Atha na½ s± ±ha– “ki½ mayha½ tayi paµibaddha½, aya½ pana me s±miko issariyassa d±yako, ima½ avanditv± kasm± ta½ vandiss±m²”ti? Rukkhadevat± passantasseva mah±janassa “eva½, bhadde, eva½, bhadde”ti vatv± ta½ pupphamuµµhin± p³jesi Puna r±j± ±ha– “sace ma½ na vandasi, mayha½ rajjasirid±yika½ eva½ mah±nubh±va½ devata½ kasm± na vandas²”ti? “Mah±r±ja, tay± attano puññe µhatv± r±j±no gahit±, na devat±ya gahetv± dinn±”ti. S± kathayam±n± µhit± rodi ceva hasi ca. Atha na½ r±j± “ki½ ummattik±s²”ti ±ha. “Kasm± deva eva½ vadesi”? “Na m±disiyo ummattik± hont²”ti. Eva½ at²ta½ samodh±netv± puna dhamma½ desento, “bhikkhave, p±º±tip±to n±ma na kattabbayuttako. P±º±tip±tino hi d²gharatta½ socant²”ti vatv± im± g±th± ±ha–
“Idha socati pecca socati,
p±pak±r² ubhayattha socati;
so socati so vihaññati,
disv± kammakiliµµhamattano”ti. (Dha. pa. 15).
