7. Chattap±ºi-up±sakavatthu

Yath±pi rucira½ pupphanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± s±vatthiya½ viharanto chattap±ºi-up±saka½ ±rabbha kathesi.
S±vatthiyañhi chattap±ºi n±ma up±sako tipiµakadharo an±g±m². So p±tova uposathiko hutv± satthu upaµµh±na½ agam±si. An±g±mi-ariyas±vak±nañhi sam±d±navasena uposathakamma½ n±ma natthi, maggeneva tesa½ brahmacariyañca ekabhattikañca ±gata½. Tenev±ha– “ghaµik±ro kho, mah±r±ja, kumbhak±ro ekabhattiko brahmac±r² s²lav± kaly±ºadhammo”ti (ma. ni. 2.288). Eva½ an±g±mino pakatiy±va ekabhattik± ca brahmac±rino ca honti. Sopi tatheva uposathiko hutv± satth±ra½ upasaªkamitv± vanditv± dhammakatha½ suºanto nis²di. Tasmi½ samaye r±j± pasenadi kosalo satthu upaµµh±na½ agam±si. Chattap±ºi up±sako ta½ ±gacchanta½ disv± “uµµh±tabba½ nu kho, no”ti cintetv±– “aha½ aggar±jassa santike nisinno, tassa me padesar±j±na½ disv± uµµh±tu½ na yutta½, r±j± kho pana me anuµµhahantassa kujjhissati, etasmi½ kujjhantepi neva uµµhahiss±mi R±j±na½ disv± uµµhahantena hi r±j± garukato hoti, no satth±, tasm± neva uµµhahiss±m²”ti na uµµhahi. Paº¹itapuris± n±ma garutar±na½ santike nis²ditv± anuµµhahanta½ disv± na kujjhanti. R±j± pana ta½ anuµµhahanta½ disv± kupitam±naso satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di. Satth± kupitabh±va½ ñatv±, “mah±r±ja, aya½ chattap±ºi up±sako paº¹ito diµµhadhammo tipiµakadharo atth±natthakusalo”ti up±sakassa guºa½ kathesi. Rañño tassa guºakatha½ suºantasseva citta½ muduka½ j±ta½.
Athekadivasa½ r±j± uparip±s±de µhito chattap±ºi½ up±saka½ katabhattakicca½ chattam±d±ya up±hanam±ruyha r±jaªgaºena gacchanta½ disv± pakkos±pesi. So chattup±hana½ apanetv± r±j±namupasaªkamitv± vanditv± ekamanta½ aµµh±si. Atha na½ r±j± ±ha– “bho up±saka, kinte chattup±hana½ apan²tan”ti. “‘R±j± pakkosat²’ti sutv± apanetv± ±gatomh²”ti. “Ajja amh±ka½ r±jabh±vo tumhehi ñ±to bhavissat²”ti. “Sad±pi maya½, deva, tumh±ka½ r±jabh±va½ j±n±m±”ti. “Yadi eva½ kasm± purimadivase satthu santike nisinno ma½ disv± na uµµhah²”ti? “Mah±r±ja, aha½ aggar±jassa santike nisinno, padesar±j±na½ disv± uµµhahanto satthari ag±rava½ pavedeyya½, tasm± na uµµhahin”ti. “Hotu, bho, tiµµhateta½”. “Tumhe kira diµµhadhammikasampar±yik±na½ atth±natth±na½ kusal± tipiµakadhar± amh±ka½ antepure dhamma½ v±ceth±”ti. “Na sakkomi, dev±”ti. “Ki½ k±raº±”ti? “R±jageha½ n±ma mah±s±vajja½, duyuttasuyuttak±ni garuk±nettha, dev±”ti. “M± eva½ vadetha, ‘purimadivase ma½ disv± na uµµhitomh²’ti m± kukkucca½ karoth±”ti. “Deva, gih²na½ vicaraºaµµh±na½ n±ma mah±s±vajja½, eka½ pabbajita½ pakkos±petv± dhamma½ v±c±peth±”ti. R±j± “s±dhu, bho, gacchatha tumhe”ti ta½ uyyojetv± satthu santika½ gantv± satth±ra½ y±ci, “bhante, mallik± ca dev² v±sabhakhattiy± ca dhamma½ pariy±puºiss±m±ti vadanti, pañcahi bhikkhusatehi saddhi½ nibaddha½ mama geha½ gantv± t±sa½ dhamma½ uddisath±”ti. “Buddh±na½ nibaddha½ ekaµµh±nagamana½ n±ma natthi, mah±r±j±”ti. “Tena hi, bhante, añña½ eka½ bhikkhu½ deth±”ti. Satth± ±nandattherassa bh±ramak±si. Thero nibaddha½ gantv± t±sa½ uddesa½ uddisati. T±su mallik± sakkacca½ gahetv± sajjh±yitv± uddesa½ paµicch±pesi. V±sabhakhattiy± pana neva sakkacca½ gaºh±ti, na sajjh±yati, na uddesa½ paµicch±petu½ sakkoti.
Athekadivasa½ satth± thera½ pucchi– “kim±nanda, up±sik± dhamma½ pariy±puºant²”ti? “¾ma, bhante”ti. “K± sakkacca½ gaºh±t²”ti? “Mallik±, bhante, sakkacca½ gaºh±ti, sakkacca½ sajjh±yati, sakkacca½ uddesa½ paµicch±petu½ sakkoti. Tumh±ka½ pana ñ±tidh²t± neva sakkacca½ gaºh±ti, na sajjh±yati, na uddesa½ paµicch±petu½ sakkot²”ti. Satth± therassa vacana½ sutv±, “±nanda, may± kathitadhammo n±ma sakkaccamasuºantassa aggaºhantassa asajjh±yantassa adesentassa vaººasampanna½ agandhakapuppha½ viya aphalo hoti, sakkacca½ pana savan±d²ni karontassa mahapphalo hoti mah±nisa½so”ti vatv± im± dve g±th± abh±si–

eva½ subh±sit± v±c±, saphal± hoti kubbato”ti.
Tattha ruciranti sobhana½. Vaººavantanti vaººasaºµh±nasampanna½, agandhakanti gandhavirahita½ p±libhaddakagirikaººikajayasuman±dibheda½. Eva½ subh±sit± v±c±ti subh±sit± v±c± n±ma tepiµaka½ buddhavacana½. Ta½ vaººasaºµh±nasampanna½ agandhakapupphasadisa½. Yath± pana agandhakapuppha½ yo na½ dh±reti, tassa sar²re gandha½ na pharati, eva½ etampi yo na½ sakkacca½ savan±d²hi na sam±carati, tassa sakkacca½ asam±carantassa ya½ tattha kattabba½, ta½ akubbato sutagandhañca v±c±gandhañca paµipattigandhañca na ±vahati aphal± hoti. Tena vutta½– “eva½ subh±sit± v±c±, aphal± hoti akubbato”ti. Sagandhakanti campakan²luppal±dibheda½. Evanti yath± ta½ puppha½ dh±rentassa sar²re gandho pharati, eva½ tepiµakabuddhavacanasaªkh±t± subh±sit± v±c±pi. Kubbatoti yo sakkacca½ savan±d²hi tattha kattabba½ karoti, s± assa puggalassa saphal± hoti, sutagandhav±c±gandhapaµipattigandh±na½ ±vahanato mahapphal± hoti, mah±nisa½s±ti attho.
