T±su ek± devadh²t± rukkhas±kh±yameva cut±, sar²ra½ d²pasikh± viya nibb±yi. Ta½ sutv± puthujjan± bhikkh³ tass± upak±ra½ sarant± ass³ni sandh±retu½ n±sakkhi½su. Kh²º±sav±na½ dhammasa½vego udap±di. Te bhattakicca½ katv± vih±ra½ gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± pucchi½su– “bhante, patip³jik± n±ma up±sik± uµµh±ya samuµµh±ya n±nappak±r±ni puññ±ni katv± s±mikameva patthesi, s± id±ni mat±, kaha½ nu kho nibbatt±”ti? “Attano s±mikasseva santike, bhikkhave”ti. “Natthi, bhante, s±mikassa santike”ti. “Na s±, bhikkhave, eta½ s±mika½ pattheti, t±vati½sabhavane tass± m±labh±r²devaputto n±ma s±miko, s± tassa pupphapilandhanaµµh±nato cavitv± puna gantv± tasseva santike nibbatt±”ti. “Eva½ kira, bhante”ti. “¾ma, bhikkhave”ti. “Aho paritta½, bhante, satt±na½ j²vita½, p±tova amhe parivisitv± s±ya½ uppannaby±dhin± mat±”ti. Tattha pupph±ni heva pacinantanti pupph±r±me m±l±k±ro n±n±pupph±ni viya attabh±vapaµibaddh±ni ceva upakaraºapaµibaddh±ni ca k±maguºapupph±ni ocinantameva By±sattamanasa½ naranti asampattesu patthan±vasena, sampattesu gedhavasena vividhen±k±rena ±sattacitta½. Atitta½yeva k±mes³ti vatthuk±makilesak±mesu pariyesanenapi paµil±bhenapi paribhogenapi nidh±nenapi atitta½ eva sam±na½.
