Kumbh³pamanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± s±vatthiya½ viharanto ±raddhavipassake bhikkh³ ±rabbha kathesi.
S±vatthiya½ kira pańcasat± bhikkh³ satthu santike y±va arahatt± kammaµµh±na½ gahetv±, “samaŗadhamma½ kariss±m±”ti yojanasatamagga½ gantv± eka½ mah±v±sag±ma½ agama½su. Atha te manuss± disv± pańńatt±sane nis²d±petv± paŗ²tehi y±gubhatt±d²hi parivisitv±, “kaha½, bhante, gacchath±”ti pucchitv±, “yath±ph±sukaµµh±nan”ti vutte, “bhante, ima½ tem±sa½ idheva vasatha, mayampi tumh±ka½ santike saraŗesu patiµµh±ya pańca s²l±ni rakkhiss±m±”ti y±citv± tesa½ adhiv±sana½ viditv±, “avid³re µh±ne mahanto vanasaŗ¹o atthi, ettha vasatha, bhante”ti vatv± uyyojesu½. Bhikkh³ ta½ vanasaŗ¹a½ pavisi½su. Tasmi½ vanasaŗ¹e adhivatth± devat± “s²lavanto, ayy±, ima½ vanasaŗ¹a½ anuppatt±, ayutta½ kho pana asm±ka½ ayyesu idha vasantesu puttad±re gahetv± rukkhe abhiruyha vasitun”ti rukkhato otaritv± bh³miya½ nis²ditv± cintayi½su, “ayy±, imasmi½ µh±ne ajjekaratti½ vasitv± addh± sve gamissant²”ti. Bhikkh³pi punadivase antog±me piŗ¹±ya caritv± puna tameva vanasaŗ¹a½ ±gami½su. Devat± “bhikkhusaŖgho sv±tan±ya kenaci nimantito bhavissati, tasm± pun±gacchati ajja gamana½ na bhavissati, sve gamissati mańńe”ti imin± up±yena a¹¹ham±samatta½ bh³miyameva acchi½su.
Tato cintayi½su– “bhadant± ima½ tem±sa½ idheva mańńe vasissanti, idheva kho pana imesu vasantesu amh±ka½ rukkhe abhiruhitv± nis²ditumpi na yutta½, tem±sa½ puttad±re gahetv± bh³miya½ nis²danaµµh±n±nipi dukkh±ni, kińci katv± ime bhikkh³ pal±petu½ vaµµat²”ti. T± tesu tesu rattiµµh±nadiv±µµh±nesu ceva caŖkamanakoµ²su ca chinnas²s±ni kabandh±ni dassetu½ amanussasaddańca bh±vetu½ ±rabhi½su. Bhikkh³na½ khipitak±s±dayo rog± pavatti½su. Te ańńamańńa½ “tuyha½, ±vuso, ki½ rujjat²”ti pucchant±, “mayha½ khipitarogo, mayha½ k±so”ti vatv±, “±vuso, aha½ ajja caŖkamanakoµiya½ chinnas²sa½ addasa½, aha½ rattiµµh±ne kabandha½ addasa½ aha½ div±µµh±ne amanussasadda½ assosi½, parivajjetabbayuttakamida½ µh±na½, amh±ka½ idha aph±suka½ ahosi, satthu santika½ gamiss±m±”ti nikkhamitv± anupubbena satthu santika½ gantv± vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di½su.
Atha ne satth± ±ha– “ki½, bhikkhave, tasmi½ µh±ne vasitu½ na sakkhissath±”ti? “¾ma, bhante, amh±ka½ tasmi½ µh±ne vasant±na½ evar³p±ni bherav±rammaŗ±ni upaµµhahanti, evar³pa½ aph±suka½ hoti, tena maya½ ‘vajjetabbayuttakamida½ µh±nan’ti ta½ cha¹¹etv± tumh±ka½ santika½ ±gat±”ti. “Bhikkhave, tattheva tumh±ka½ gantu½ vaµµat²”ti. “Na sakk±, bhante”ti. “Bhikkhave, tumhe ±vudha½ aggahetv± gat±, id±ni ±vudha½ gahetv± gacchath±”ti. “Katar±vudha½, bhante”ti? Satth± “aha½ ±vudha½ vo dass±mi, may± dinna½ ±vudha½ gahetv± gacchath±”ti vatv±–
“Karaŗ²yamatthakusalena, yanta santa½ pada½ abhisamecca;
sakko uj³ ca suhuj³ ca, suvaco cassa mudu anatim±n²”ti. (Khu. p±. 9.1; su. ni. 143)–

Sakala½ mettasutta½ kathetv±, “bhikkhave, ima½ tumhe bahi vih±rassa vanasaŗ¹ato paµµh±ya sajjh±yant± antovih±ra½ paviseyy±th±”ti uyyojesi. Te satth±ra½ vanditv± nikkhamitv± anupubbena ta½ µh±na½ patv± bahivih±re gaŗasajjh±ya½ katv± sajjh±yam±n± vanasaŗ¹a½ pavisi½su. Sakalavanasaŗ¹e devat± mettacitta½ paµilabhitv± tesa½ paccuggamana½ katv± pattac²varapaµiggahaŗa½ ±pucchi½su, hatthap±dasamb±hana½ ±pucchi½su, tesa½ tattha tattha ±rakkha½ sa½vidahi½su, pakkadh³panatela½ viya sannisinn± ahesu½. Katthaci amanussasaddo n±ma n±hosi. Tesa½ bhikkh³na½ citta½ ekagga½ ahosi. Te rattiµµh±nadiv±µµh±nesu nisinn± vipassan±ya citta½ ot±retv± attani khayavaya½ paµµhapetv±, “aya½ attabh±vo n±ma bhijjanakaµµhena ath±varaµµhena kul±labh±janasadiso”ti vipassana½ va¹¹hayi½su. Samm±sambuddho gandhakuµiy± nisinnova tesa½ vipassan±ya ±raddhabh±va½ ńatv± te bhikkh³ ±mantetv±, “evameva, bhikkhave, aya½ attabh±vo n±ma bhijjanakaµµhena ath±varaµµhena kul±labh±janasadiso ev±”ti vatv± obh±sa½ pharitv± yojanasate µhitopi abhimukhe nisinno viya chabbaŗŗara½siyo vissajjetv± dissam±nena r³pena ima½ g±tham±ha–

40. “Kumbh³pama½ k±yami½ma viditv±, nagar³pama½ cittamida½ µhapetv±;
yodhetha m±ra½ pańń±vudhena, jitańca rakkhe anivesano siy±”ti.
Tattha kumbh³pamanti abaladubbalaµµhena anaddhaniyat±vak±likaµµhena ima½ kes±disam³hasaŖkh±ta½ k±ya½ kumbh³pama½ kul±labh±janasadisa½ viditv±. Nagar³pama½ cittamida½ µhapetv±ti nagara½ n±ma bahiddh± thira½ hoti, gambh²raparikha½ p±k±raparikkhitta½ dv±raµµ±lakayutta½, antosuvibhattav²thicatukkasiŖgh±µakasampanna½ antar±paŗa½, ta½ “vilumpiss±m±”ti bahiddh± cor± ±gantv± pavisitu½ asakkont± pabbata½ ±sajja paµihat± viya gacchanti, evameva paŗ¹ito kulaputto attano vipassan±citta½ thira½ nagarasadisa½ katv± µhapetv± nagare µhito ekatodh±r±din±nappak±r±vudhena coragaŗa½ viya vipassan±mayena ca ariyamaggamayena ca pańń±vudhena ta½ta½maggavajjha½ kilesam±ra½ paµib±hanto ta½ ta½ kilesam±ra½ yodhetha, pahareyy±th±ti attho. Jitańca rakkheti jitańca upp±dita½ taruŗavipassana½ ±v±sasapp±ya-utusapp±yabhojanasapp±yapuggalasapp±yadhammassavanasapp±y±d²ni ±sevanto antarantar± sam±patti½ sam±pajjitv± tato vuµµh±ya suddhacittena saŖkh±re sammasanto rakkheyya.
Anivesano siy±ti an±layo bhaveyya. Yath± n±ma yodho saŖg±mas²se balakoµµhaka½ katv± amittehi saddhi½ yujjhanto ch±to v± pip±sito v± hutv± sann±he v± sithile ±vudhe v± patite balakoµµhaka½ pavisitv± vissamitv± bhuńjitv± pivitv± sannahitv± ±vudha½ gahetv± puna nikkhamitv± yujjhanto parasena½ maddati, ajita½ jin±ti, jita½ rakkhati. So hi sace balakoµµhake µhito eva½ vissamanto ta½ ass±dento accheyya, rajja½ parahatthagata½ kareyya, evameva, bhikkhu, paµiladdha½ taruŗavipassana½ punappuna½ sam±patti½ sam±pajjitv± tato vuµµh±ya suddhacittena saŖkh±re sammasanto rakkhitu½ sakkoti, uttarimaggaphalapaµil±bhena kilesam±ra½ jin±ti. Sace pana so sam±pattimeva ass±deti, suddhacittena punappuna½ saŖkh±re na sammasati, maggaphalapaµivedha½ k±tu½ na sakkoti. Tasm± rakkhitabbayuttaka½ rakkhanto anivesano siy±, sam±patti½ nivesana½ katv± tattha na niveseyya, ±laya½ na kareyy±ti attho. “Addh± tumhepi eva½ karoth±”ti eva½ satth± tesa½ bhikkh³na½ dhamma½ desesi.
Desan±vas±ne pańcasat± bhikkh³ nisinnaµµh±ne nisinn±yeva saha paµisambhid±hi arahatta½ patv± tath±gatassa suvaŗŗavaŗŗa½ sar²ra½ vaŗŗayant± thoment± vandant±va ±gacchi½s³ti.
