Cuti½ yo ved²ti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto vaªg²satthera½ ±rabbha kathesi.
R±jagahe kireko br±hmaºo vaªg²so n±ma matamanuss±na½ s²sa½ ±koµetv± “ida½ niraye nibbattassa s²sa½, ida½ tiracch±nayoniya½, ida½ pettivisaye, ida½ manussaloke, ida½ devaloke nibbattassa s²san”ti j±n±ti. Br±hmaº± “sakk± ima½ niss±ya loka½ kh±ditun”ti cintetv± ta½ dve rattavatth±ni paridah±petv± ±d±ya janapada½ carant± manusse vadanti “eso vaªg²so n±ma br±hmaºo matamanuss±na½ s²sa½ ±koµetv± nibbattaµµh±na½ j±n±ti, attano ñ±tak±na½ nibbattaµµh±na½ pucchath±”ti. Manuss± yath±bala½ dasapi kah±paºe v²satipi satampi datv± ñ±tak±na½ nibbattaµµh±na½ pucchanti. Te anupubbena s±vatthi½ patv± jetavanassa avid³re niv±sa½ gaºhi½su. Te bhuttap±tar±s± mah±jana½ gandham±l±dihattha½ dhammassavan±ya gacchanta½ disv± “kaha½ gacchath±”ti pucchitv± “vih±ra½ dhammassavan±y±”ti vutte “tattha gantv± ki½ karissatha, amh±ka½ vaªg²sabr±hmaºena sadiso n±ma natthi, matamanuss±na½ s²sa½ ±koµetv± nibbattaµµh±na½ j±n±ti, ñ±tak±na½ nibbattaµµh±na½ pucchath±”ti ±ha½su. Te “vaªg²so ki½ j±n±ti amh±ka½ satth±r± sadiso n±ma natth²”ti vatv± itarehipi “vaªg²sasadiso natth²”ti vutte katha½ va¹¹hetv± “etha, d±ni vo vaªg²sassa v± amh±ka½ v± satthu j±nanabh±va½ j±niss±m±”ti te ±d±ya vih±ra½ agama½su. Satth± tesa½ ±gamanabh±va½ ñatv± niraye tiracch±nayoniya½ manussaloke devaloketi cat³su µh±nesu nibbatt±na½ catt±ri s²s±ni, kh²º±savas²sañc±ti pañca s²s±ni ±har±petv± paµip±µiy± µhapetv± ±gatak±le vaªg²sa½ pucchi– “tva½ kira s²sa½ ±koµetv± matak±na½ nibbattaµµh±na½ j±n±s²”ti? “¾ma, j±n±m²”ti. “Ida½ kassa s²san”ti? So ta½ ±koµetv± “niraye nibbattass±”ti ±ha. So ta½ sajjh±yanto antarantar± br±hmaºehi “gahito te manto”ti pucchiyam±no “±gametha t±va, gaºh±m²”ti vatv± katip±heneva arahatta½ patv± puna br±hmaºehi puµµho “abhabbo d±n±ha½, ±vuso, gantun”ti ±ha. asatta½ sugata½ buddha½, tamaha½ br³mi br±hmaºa½.
420. “Yassa gati½ na j±nanti, dev± gandhabbam±nus±;
kh²º±sava½ arahanta½, tamaha½ br³mi br±hmaºan”ti.
Tattha yo ved²ti yo satt±na½ sabb±k±rena cutiñca paµisandhiñca p±kaµa½ katv± j±n±ti, tamaha½ alaggat±ya asatta½, paµipattiy± suµµhu gatatt± sugata½, catunna½ sacc±na½ buddhat±ya buddha½ br±hmaºa½ vad±m²ti attho. Yass±ti yassete dev±dayo gati½ na j±nanti, tamaha½ ±sav±na½ kh²ºat±ya kh²º±sava½, kilesehi ±rakatt± arahanta½ br±hmaºa½ vad±m²ti attho.
