Kassapasamm±sambuddhak±le pana ek± b±r±ºasiseµµhino dh²t± va¹¹ham±nakacch±y±ya ±d±sa½ gahetv± att±na½ alaªkaront² nis²di. Athass± viss±sik± ek± kh²º±sav± bhikkhun² ta½ daµµhu½ agam±si. Bhikkhuniyo hi kh²º±sav±pi s±yanhasamaye upaµµh±kakul±ni daµµhuk±m± honti. Tasmi½ pana khaºe seµµhidh²t±ya santike k±ci pesanak±rik± natthi, s± “vand±mi, ayye, eta½ t±va me pas±dhanape¼aka½ gahetv± deth±”ti ±ha. Pajjanti imin±ti pada½, amata½ p±puºant²ti attho. Amatassa pada½ amatapada½, amatassa adhigam³p±yoti vutta½ hoti, pam±doti pamajjanabh±vo, muµµhassatisaªkh±tassa satiy± vosaggasseta½ n±ma½. Maccunoti maraºassa. Padanti up±yo maggo. Pamatto hi j±ti½ n±tivattati, j±to j²yati ceva m²yati c±ti pam±do maccuno pada½ n±ma hoti, maraºa½ upeti. Appamatt± na m²yant²ti satiy± samann±gat± hi appamatt± na maranti. Ajar± amar± hont²ti na sallakkhetabba½. Ye pamatt± yath± mat±ti ye pana satt± pamatt±, te pam±damaraºena matatt±, yath± hi j²vitindriyupacchedena mat± d±rukkhandhasadis± apagataviññ±º± tatheva honti. Tesampi hi mat±na½ viya gahaµµh±na½ t±va “d±na½ dass±ma, s²la½ rakkhiss±ma, uposathakamma½ kariss±m±”ti ekacittampi na uppajjati, pabbajit±nampi “±cariyupajjh±yavatt±d²ni p³ress±ma, dhutaªg±ni sam±diyiss±ma, bh±vana½ va¹¹hess±m±”ti na uppajjat²ti matena te ki½ n±n±karaº±va honti. Tena vutta½– “ye pamatt± yath± mat±”ti.
Eva½ visesato ñatv±ti pamattassa vaµµato nissaraºa½ natthi, appamattassa atth²ti eva½ visesatova j±nitv±. Ke paneta½ visesa½ j±nant²ti? Appam±damhi paº¹it±ti ye paº¹it± medh±vino sappaññ± attano appam±de µhatv± appam±da½ va¹¹henti, te eva½ visesak±raºa½ j±nanti.
