“Tena kho pana samayena bhagav± sakkato hoti garukato m±nito p³jito”ti vatthu vitth±rato ud±ne (ud±. 38) ±gatameva. Aya½ panettha saªkhepo– bhagavato kira bhikkhusaªghassa ca pañcanna½ mah±nad²na½ mahoghasadise l±bhasakk±re uppanne hatal±bhasakk±r± aññatitthiy± s³riyuggamanak±le khajjopanak± viya nippabh± hutv± ekato sannipatitv± mantayi½su– “maya½ samaºassa gotamassa uppannak±lato paµµh±ya hatal±bhasakk±r±, na no koci atthibh±vampi j±n±ti, kena nu kho saddhi½ ekato hutv± samaºassa gotamassa avaººa½ upp±detv± l±bhasakk±ramassa antaradh±peyy±m±”ti. Atha nesa½ etadahosi– “sundariy± saddhi½ ekato hutv± sakkuºiss±m±”ti. Te ekadivasa½ sundari½ titthiy±r±ma½ pavisitv± vanditv± µhita½ n±lapi½su. S± punappuna½ sallapant²pi paµivacana½ alabhitv± “api panayy±, kenaci viheµhitatth±”ti pucchi. “Ki½, bhagini, samaºa½ gotama½ amhe viheµhetv± hatal±bhasakk±re katv± vicaranta½ na passas²”ti? “May± ettha ki½ k±tu½ vaµµat²”ti? “Tva½ khosi, bhagini, abhir³p± sobhaggappatt±, samaºassa gotamassa ayasa½ ±ropetv± mah±jana½ tava katha½ g±h±petv± hatal±bhasakk±ra½ karoh²”ti. S±vatthiv±sino µhapetv± ariyas±vake ses± yebhuyyena “passatha samaº±na½ sakyaputtiy±na½ kamman”ti-±d²ni vatv± antonagarepi bahinagarepi bhikkh³ akkosant± vicaranti. Bhikkh³ ta½ pavatti½ tath±gatassa ±rocesu½. Satth± “tena hi tumhepi te manusse eva½ paµicodeth±”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

Tattha abh³tav±d²ti parassa dosa½ adisv±va mus±v±da½ katv± tucchena para½ abbh±cikkhanto. Katv±ti yo v± pana p±pakamma½ katv± “n±ha½ eta½ karom²”ti ±ha. Pecca sam± bhavant²ti te ubhopi jan± paraloka½ gantv± niraya½ upagamanena gatiy± sam± bhavanti. Gatiyeva nesa½ paricchinn±, ±yu pana nesa½ na paricchinna½. Bahukañhi p±pakamma½ katv± cira½ niraye paccanti, paritta½ katv± appamattakameva k±la½. Yasm± pana nesa½ ubhinnampi l±makameva kamma½, tena vutta½– “nih²nakamm± manuj± paratth±”ti. Paratth±ti imassa pana padassa purato peccapadena sambandho. Pecca parattha ito gantv± te nih²nakamm± paraloke sam± bhavant²ti attho. Desan±vas±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puºi½s³ti.
R±j± “sundariy± aññehi m±ritabh±va½ j±n±th±”ti purise uyyojesi. Atha te dhutt± tehi kah±paºehi sura½ pivant± aññamañña½ kalaha½ kari½su. Eko eka½ ±ha– “tva½ sundari½ ekappah±reneva m±retv± m±l±kacavarantare nikkhipitv± tato laddhakah±paºehi sura½ pivasi, hotu hot³”ti. R±japuris± te dhutte gahetv± rañño dassesu½. Atha ne r±j± “tumhehi s± m±rit±”ti pucchi. “¾ma, dev±”ti. “Kehi m±r±pit±”ti? “Aññatitthiyehi, dev±”ti. R±j± titthiye pakkos±petv± pucchi. Te tatheva vadi½su. Tena hi gacchatha tumhe eva½ vadant± nagara½ ±hiº¹atha– “aya½ sundar² samaºassa gotamassa avaººa½ ±ropetuk±mehi amhehi m±r±pit±, neva samaºassa gotamassa, na s±vak±na½ doso atthi, amh±kameva doso”ti. Te tath± kari½su. B±lamah±jano tad± saddahi, titthiy±pi dhutt±pi purisavadhadaº¹a½ p±puºi½su. Tato paµµh±ya buddh±na½ sakk±ro mah± ahos²ti.
