D³re santoti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto an±thapiŗ¹ikassa dh²tara½ c³¼asubhadda½ n±ma ±rabbha kathesi.
An±thapiŗ¹ikassa kira daharak±lato paµµh±ya ugganagarav±s² uggo n±ma seµµhiputto sah±yako ahosi. Te ek±cariyakule sippa½ uggaŗhant± ańńamańńa½ katika½ kari½su “amh±ka½ vayappattak±le puttadh²t±su j±t±su yo puttassa dh²tara½ v±reti, tena tassa dh²t± d±tabb±”ti. Te ubhopi vayappatt± attano attano nagare seµµhiµµh±ne patiµµhahi½su. Athekasmi½ samaye uggaseµµhi vaŗijja½ payojento pańcahi sakaµasatehi s±vatthi½ agam±si. An±thapiŗ¹iko attano dh²tara½ c³¼asubhadda½ ±mantetv±, “amma, pit± te uggaseµµhi n±ma ±gato, tassa kattabbakicca½ sabba½ tava bh±ro”ti ±ŗ±pesi. S± “s±dh³”ti paµissuŗitv± tassa ±gatadivasato paµµh±ya sahattheneva s³pabyańjan±d²ni samp±deti, m±l±gandhavilepan±d²ni abhisaŖkharoti bhojanak±le tassa nh±nodaka½ paµiy±d±petv± nh±nak±lato paµµh±ya sabbakicc±ni s±dhuka½ karoti.
Uggaseµµhi tass± ±c±rasampatti½ disv± pasannacitto ekadivasa½ an±thapiŗ¹ikena saddhi½ sukhakath±ya sannisinno “maya½ daharak±le eva½ n±ma katika½ karimh±”ti s±retv± c³¼asubhadda½ attano puttassatth±ya v±resi. So pana pakatiy±va micch±diµµhiko. Tasm± dasabalassa tamattha½ ±rocetv± satth±r± uggaseµµhiss³panissaya½ disv± anuńń±to bhariy±ya saddhi½ mantetv± tassa vacana½ sampaµicchitv± divasa½ vavatthapetv± dh²tara½ vis±kha½ datv± uyyojento dhanańcayaseµµhi viya mahanta½ sakk±ra½ katv± subhadda½ ±mantetv±, “amma, sasurakule vasantiy± n±ma anto-aggi bahi na n²haritabbo”ti (a. ni. aµµha. 1.1.259; dha. pa. aµµha. 1.52 vis±kh±vatthu) dhanańcayaseµµhin± vis±kh±ya dinnanayeneva dasa ov±de datv± “sace me gataµµh±ne dh²tu doso uppajjati, tumhehi sodhetabbo”ti aµµha kuµumbike p±µibhoge gahetv± tass± uyyojanadivase buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaŖghassa mah±d±na½ datv± purimabhave dh²tar± kat±na½ sucarit±na½ phalavibh³ti½ lokassa p±kaµa½ katv± dassento viya mahantena sakk±rena dh²tara½ uyyojesi. Tass± anupubbena ugganagara½ pattak±le sasurakulena saddhi½ mah±jano paccuggamanamak±si.
S±pi attano sirivibhava½ p±kaµa½ k±tu½ vis±kh± viya sakalanagarassa att±na½ dassent² rathe µhatv± nagara½ pavisitv± n±garehi pesite paŗŗ±k±re gahetv± anur³pavasena tesa½ tesa½ pesent² sakalanagara½ attano guŗehi ek±baddhamak±si. MaŖgaladivas±d²su panass± sasuro acelak±na½ sakk±ra½ karonto “±gantv± amh±ka½ samaŗe vandat³”ti pesesi. S± lajj±ya nagge passitu½ asakkont² gantu½ na icchati. So punappuna½ pesetv±pi t±ya paµikkhitto kujjhitv± “n²haratha nan”ti ±ha. S± “na sakk± mama ak±raŗena dosa½ ±ropetun”ti kuµumbike pakkos±petv± tamattha½ ±rocesi. Te tass± niddosabh±va½ ńatv± seµµhi½ sańń±pesu½. So “aya½ mama samaŗe ahirik±ti na vand²”ti bhariy±ya ±rocesi. S± “k²dis± nu kho imiss± samaŗ±, ativiya tesa½ pasa½sat²”ti ta½ pakkos±petv± ±ha–
“K²dis± samaŗ± tuyha½, b±¼ha½ kho ne pasa½sasi;
ki½s²l± ki½sam±c±r±, ta½ me akkh±hi pucchit±”ti. (A. ni. aµµha. 2.4.24).

“Vimal± saŖkhamutt±bh±, suddh± antarab±hir±;
puŗŗ± suddhehi dhammehi, t±dis± samaŗ± mama.
“L±bhena unnato loko, al±bhena ca onato;
l±bh±l±bhena ekaµµh±, t±dis± samaŗ± mama.
“Yasena unnato loko, ayasena ca onato;
yas±yasena ekaµµh±, t±dis± samaŗ± mama.
“Pasa½s±yunnato loko, nind±y±pi ca onato;
sam± nind±pasa½s±su, t±dis± samaŗ± mama.
“Sukhena unnato loko, dukkhen±pi ca onato;
akamp± sukhadukkhesu, t±dis± samaŗ± mam±”ti.–

Atha na½ “sakk± tava samaŗe amh±kampi dassetun”ti vatv± “sakk±”ti vutte “tena hi yath± maya½ te pass±ma, tath± karoh²”ti vutte s± “s±dh³”ti buddhappamukhassa bhikkhusaŖghassa mah±d±na½ sajjetv± uparip±s±datale µhatv± jetavan±bhimukh² sakkacca½ pańcapatiµµhitena vanditv± buddhaguŗe ±vajjetv± gandhav±sapupphadhumehi p³ja½ katv±, “bhante, sv±tan±ya buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaŖgha½ nimantemi, imin± me sańń±ŗena satth± nimantitabh±va½ j±n±t³”ti sumanapupph±na½ aµµha muµµhiyo ±k±se khipi. Pupph±ni gantv± catuparisamajjhe dhamma½ desentassa satthuno upari m±l±vit±na½ hutv± aµµha½su. Tasmi½ khaŗe an±thapiŗ¹ikopi dhammakatha½ sutv± sv±tan±ya satth±ra½ nimantesi. Satth± “adhivuttha½ may±, gahapati, sv±tan±ya bhattan”ti vatv±, “bhante, may± puretara½ ±gato natthi, kassa nu kho vo adhivutthan”ti vutte “c³¼asubhadd±ya, gahapati, nimantito”ti vatv± “nanu, bhante, c³¼asubhadd± d³re vasati ito v²satiyojanasatamatthake”ti vutte, “±ma gahapati, d³re vasant±pi hi sappuris± abhimukhe µhit± viya pak±sent²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–

Tattha santoti r±g±d²na½ santat±ya buddh±dayo sant± n±ma. Idha pana pubbabuddhesu kat±dhik±r± ussannakusalam³l± bh±vitabh±van± satt± santoti adhippet±. Pak±sent²ti d³re µhit±pi buddh±na½ ń±ŗapatha½ ±gacchant± p±kaµ± honti. Himavanto v±ti yath± hi tiyojanasahassavitthato pańcayojanasatubbedho catur±s²tiy± k³µasahassehi paµimaŗ¹ito himavantapabbato d³re µhit±nampi abhimukhe µhito viya pak±seti, eva½ pak±sent²ti attho. Asantetth±ti diµµhadhammagaruk± vitiŗŗaparalok± ±misacakkhuk± j²vikatth±ya pabbajit± b±lapuggal± asanto n±ma, te ettha buddh±na½ dakkhiŗassa j±ŗumaŗ¹alassa santike nisinn±pi na dissanti na pańń±yanti. Ratti½ khitt±ti ratti½ caturaŖgasamann±gate andhak±re khittasar± viya tath±r³passa upanissayabh³tassa pubbahetuno abh±vena na pańń±yant²ti attho.
Desan±vas±ne bah³ sot±pattiphal±d²ni p±puŗi½s³ti.
Sakko devar±j± “satth±r± subhadd±ya nimantana½ adhiv±sitan”ti ńatv± vissakammadevaputta½ ±ŗ±pesi– “pańca k³µ±g±rasat±ni nimminitv± sve buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaŖgha½ ugganagara½ neh²”ti. So punadivase pańcasat±ni k³µ±g±r±ni nimminitv± jetavanadv±re aµµh±si. Satth± uccinitv± visuddhakh²ŗ±sav±na½yeva pańcasat±ni ±d±ya sapariv±ro k³µ±g±resu nis²ditv± ugganagara½ agam±si. Uggaseµµhipi sapariv±ro subhadd±ya dinnanayeneva tath±gatassa ±gatamagga½ olokento satth±ra½ mahantena sirivibhavena ±gacchanta½ disv± pasannam±naso m±l±d²hi mahanta½ sakk±ra½ karonto sapariv±ro sampaµicchitv± vanditv± mah±d±na½ datv± punappuna½ nimantetv± satt±ha½ mah±d±na½ ad±si. Satth±pissa sapp±ya½ sallakkhetv± dhamma½ desesi. Ta½ ±di½ katv± catur±s²tiy± p±ŗasahass±na½ dhamm±bhisamayo ahosi. Satth± “c³¼asubhadd±ya anuggahaŗattha½ tva½ idheva hoh²”ti anuruddhatthera½ nivatt±petv± s±vatthimeva agam±si. Tato paµµh±ya ta½ nagara½ saddh±sampanna½ ahos²ti.
