Gaªg±ya nibbattan±gar±j±no cintesu½– “manuss± tath±gatassa sakk±ra½ karonti, maya½ ki½ na karom±”ti. Te suvaººarajatamaºimay± n±v±yo m±petv± suvaººarajatamaºimaye pallaªke paññ±petv± pañcavaººapadumasañchanna½ udaka½ karitv±, “bhante, amh±kampi anuggaha½ karoth±”ti attano attano n±va½ abhiruhaºatth±ya satth±ra½ y±ci½su. “Manuss± ca n±g± ca tath±gatassa p³ja½ karonti, maya½ pana ki½ na karom±”ti bh³maµµhakadevepi ±di½ katv± y±va akaniµµhabrahmalok± sabbe dev± sakk±ra½ kari½su. Chattantaresu dhaj±, dhajantaresu paµ±k±, tesa½ antarantar± pupphad±mav±sacuººadhum±d²hi sakk±ro ahosi. Sabbalaªk±rapaµimaº¹it± devaputt± chaºavesa½ gahetv± ugghosayam±n± ±k±se vicari½su. Satth± gaªg±ya ubhosu passesu r±j³na½ mahanta½ paricc±ga½ oloketv± n±g±d²nañca ajjh±saya½ viditv± ekek±ya n±v±ya pañcapañcabhikkhusatapariv±ra½ ekeka½ nimmitabuddha½ m±pesi. So ekekassa setacchattassa ceva kapparukkhassa ca pupphad±massa ca heµµh± n±gagaºaparivuto nisinno hoti. Bh³maµµhakadevat±d²supi ekekasmi½ ok±se sapariv±ra½ ekeka½ nimmitabuddha½ m±pesi. Eva½ sakalacakkav±¼agabbhe ek±laªk±re ekussave ekachaºeyeva ca j±te satth± n±g±namanuggaha½ karonto eka½ ratanan±va½ abhiruhi. Bhikkh³supi ekeko ekekameva abhiruhi. N±gar±j±no buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ n±gabhavana½ pavesetv± sabbaratti½ satthu santike dhammakatha½ sutv± dutiyadivase dibbena kh±dan²yena bhojan²yena buddhappamukha½ bhikkhusaªgha½ parivisi½su. Satth± anumodana½ katv± n±gabhavan± nikkhamitv± sakalacakkav±¼adevat±hi p³jiyam±no pañcahi n±v±satehi gaªg±nadi½ atikkami.
R±j± paccuggantv± satth±ra½ n±v±to ot±retv± ±gamanak±le licchav²ti katasakk±rato diguºa½ sakk±ra½ katv± purimanayeneva pañcahi divasehi r±jagaha½ abhinesi. Dutiyadivase bhikkh³ piº¹ap±tapaµikkant± s±yanhasamaye dhammasabh±ya½ sannisinn± katha½ samuµµh±pesu½– “aho buddh±na½ mah±nubh±vo, aho satthari devamanuss±na½ pas±do, gaªg±ya n±ma orato ca p±rato ca aµµhayojane magge buddhagatena pas±dena r±j³hi samatala½ bh³mi½ katv± v±luk± okiºº±, jaººumattena odhin± n±n±vaºº±ni pupph±ni santhat±ni, gaªg±ya udaka½ n±g±nubh±vena pañcavaººehi padumehi sañchanna½, y±va akaniµµhabhavan± chatt±tichatt±ni uss±pit±ni, sakalacakkav±¼agabbha½ ek±laªk±ra½ ekussava½ viya j±tan”ti. Satth± ±gantv± “k±ya nuttha, bhikkhave, etarahi kath±ya sannisinn±”ti pucchitv± “im±ya n±m±”ti vutte “na, bhikkhave, esa p³j±sakk±ro mayha½ buddh±nubh±vena nibbatto, na n±gadevabrahm±nubh±vena. At²te pana appamattakaparicc±g±nubh±vena nibbatto”ti vatv± bhikkh³hi y±cito at²ta½ ±hari.
At²te takkasil±ya½ saªkho n±ma br±hmaºo ahosi. Tassa putto sus²mo n±ma m±ºavo so¼asavassuddesiko ekadivasa½ pitara½ upasaªkamitv± ±ha– “icch±maha½, t±ta, b±r±ºasi½ gantv± mante ajjh±yitun”ti. Atha na½ pit± ±ha– “tena hi, t±ta, asuko n±ma br±hmaºo mama sah±yako, tassa santika½ gantv± adh²yass³”ti. So “s±dh³”ti paµissuºitv± anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ gantv± ta½ br±hmaºa½ upasaªkamitv± pitar± pahitabh±vam±cikkhi. Atha na½ so “sah±yakassa me putto”ti sampaµicchitv± paµipassaddhadaratha½ bhaddakena divasena mante v±cetum±rabhi. So lahuñca gaºhanto bahuñca gaºhanto attano uggahituggahita½ suvaººabh±jane pakkhittas²hatelamiva avinassam±na½ dh±rento na cirasseva ±cariyassa sammukhato uggaºhitabba½ sabba½ uggaºhitv± sajjh±ya½ karonto attano uggahitasippassa ±dimajjhameva passati, no pariyos±na½.
So ±cariya½ upasaªkamitv± “aha½ imassa sippassa ±dimajjhameva pass±mi, no pariyos±nan”ti vatv± ±cariyena “ahampi, t±ta, na pass±m²”ti vutte “atha ko, ±cariya, pariyos±na½ j±n±t²”ti pucchitv± “ime, t±ta, isayo isipatane viharanti, te j±neyyu½, tesa½ santika½ upasaªkamitv± pucchass³”ti ±cariyena vutte paccekabuddhe upasaªkamitv± pucchi– “tumhe kira pariyos±na½ j±n±th±”ti? “¾ma, j±n±m±”ti. “Tena hi me ±cikkhath±”ti? “Na maya½ apabbajitassa ±cikkh±ma. Sace te pariyos±nenattho pabbajass³”ti So “s±dh³”ti sampaµicchitv± tesa½ santike pabbaji. Athassa te “ida½ t±va sikkhass³”ti vatv± “eva½ te niv±setabba½, eva½ p±rupitabban”ti-±din± nayena ±bhisam±c±rika½ ±cikkhi½su. So tattha sikkhanto upanissayasampannatt± nacirasseva paccekasambodhi½ abhisambujjhitv± sakalab±r±ºasinagare gaganatale puººacando viya p±kaµo l±bhaggayasaggappatto ahosi, so app±yukasa½vattanikassa kammassa katatt± na cirasseva parinibb±yi. Athassa paccekabuddh± ca mah±jano ca sar²rakicca½ katv± dh±tuyo ca gahetv± nagaradv±re th³pa½ k±resu½.
Saªkhopi br±hmaºo “putto me cira½ gato, pavattimassa j±niss±m²”ti ta½ daµµhuk±mo takkasil±to nikkhamitv± anupubbena b±r±ºasi½ patv± mah±janak±ya½ sannipatita½ disv± “addh± imesu ekopi me puttassa pavatti½ j±nissat²”ti upasaªkamitv± pucchi– “sus²mo n±ma m±ºavo idh±gami, api nu kho tassa pavatti½ j±n±th±”ti? “¾ma, br±hmaºa, j±n±ma, asukassa br±hmaºassa santike tayo vede sajjh±yitv± pabbajitv± paccekasambodhi½ sacchikatv± parinibbuto, ayamassa th³po patiµµh±pito”ti. So bh³mi½ hatthena paharitv± roditv± kanditv± ta½ cetiyaªgaºa½ gantv± tiº±ni uddharitv± uttaras±µakena v±luka½ ±haritv± cetiyaªgaºe ±kiritv± kamaº¹aluto udakena paripphositv± vanapupphehi p³ja½ katv± s±µakena paµ±ka½ ±ropetv± th³passa upari attano chattaka½ bandhitv± pakk±mi.
Satth± ida½ at²ta½ ±haritv± “tad±, bhikkhave, aha½ saªkho br±hmaºo ahosi½. May± sus²massa paccekabuddhassa cetiyaªgaºe tiº±ni uddhaµ±ni, tassa me kammassa nissandena aµµhayojanamagga½ vihatakh±ºukakaºµaka½ katv± suddha½ samatala½ kari½su. May± tattha v±luk± okiºº±, tassa me nissandena aµµhayojanamagge v±luka½ okiri½su. May± tattha vanakusumehi p³j± kat±, tassa me nissandena aµµhayojanamagge n±n±vaºº±ni pupph±ni okiºº±ni, ekayojanaµµh±ne gaªg±ya udaka½ pañcavaººehi padumehi sañchanna½. May± tattha kamaº¹alu-udakena bh³mi paripphosit±, tassa me nissandena ves±liya½ pokkharavassa½ vassi. May± tattha paµ±k±, ±ropit±, chattakañca baddha½, tassa me nissandena y±va akaniµµhabhavan± dhajapaµ±kachatt±tichatt±d²hi sakalacakkav±¼agabbha½ ekussava½ viya j±ta½. Tattha matt±sukhaparicc±g±ti matt±sukhanti pam±ºayuttaka½ parittasukha½ vuccati, tassa paricc±gena. Vipula½ sukhanti u¼±ra½ sukha½ nibb±nasukha½ vuccati, ta½ ce passeyy±ti attho. Ida½ vutta½ hoti– ekañhi bhojanap±ti½ sajj±petv± bhuñjantassa matt±sukha½ n±ma uppajjati, ta½ pana pariccajitv± uposatha½ v± karontassa d±na½ v± dadantassa vipula½ u¼±ra½ nibb±nasukha½ n±ma nibbattati. Tasm± sace eva½ tassa matt±sukhassa paricc±g± vipula½ sukha½ passati, atheta½ vipula½ sukha½ samm± passanto paº¹ito ta½ matt±sukha½ cajeyy±ti.
