Sace bhatta½ paciss±mi, ekav±rameva labhissati, ki½ pac±mi, s±m²”ti ±ha. “Amh±ka½ ańńo paccayo natthi, bhatta½ bhuńjitv± mariss±ma, bhattameva pac±h²”ti. S± bhatta½ pacitv± pańca koµµh±se katv± seµµhino koµµh±sa½ va¹¹hetv± purato µhapesi.

So ta½ disv± pasannacitto “pubbepi may± d±nassa adinnatt± evar³pa½ ch±taka½ diµµha½, ida½ kho pana bhatta½ ma½ ekadivasameva rakkheyya. Datv± ca pana patthana½ paµµhapesi, “m±, bhante, puna nibbattanibbattaµµh±ne evar³pa½ ch±takabhaya½ addasa½, ito paµµh±ya sakalajambud²pav±s²na½ b²jabhatta½ d±tu½ samattho bhaveyya½, sahatthena kamma½ katv± j²vika½ na kappeyya½, a¹¹haterasa koµµhasat±ni sodh±petv± s²sa½ nh±yitv± tesa½ dv±re nis²ditv± uddha½ olokitakkhaŗeyeva me rattas±lidh±r± patitv± sabbakoµµhe p³reyyu½. Nibbattanibbattaµµh±ne ca ayameva bhariy±, ayameva putto, ayameva suŗis±, ayameva d±so hot³”ti.
Bhariy±pissa “mama s±mike jighacch±ya p²¼iyam±ne na sakk± may± bhuńjitun”ti cintetv± attano koµµh±sa½ paccekabuddhassa datv± patthana½ paµµhapesi, “bhante, id±ni nibbattanibbattaµµh±ne evar³pa½ ch±takabhaya½ na passeyya½, bhattath±lika½ purato katv± sakalajambud²pav±s²na½ bhatta½ dentiy±pi ca me y±va na uµµhahiss±mi, t±va gahitagahitaµµh±na½ p³ritameva hotu. Ayameva s±miko, ayameva putto, ayameva suŗis±, ayameva d±so hot³”ti. Puttopissa attano koµµh±sa½ paccekabuddhassa datv± patthana½ paµµhapesi, “bhante, ito paµµh±ya evar³pa½ ch±takabhaya½ na passeyya½, ekańca me sahassathavika½ gahetv± sakalajambud²pav±s²na½ kah±paŗa½ dentass±pi aya½ sahassathavik± paripuŗŗ±va hotu, imeyeva m±t±pitaro hontu, aya½ bhariy±, aya½ d±so hot³”ti.
Suŗis±pissa attano koµµh±sa½ paccekabuddhassa datv± patthana½ paµµhapesi, “ito paµµh±ya evar³pa½ ch±takabhaya½ na passeyya½, ekańca me dhańńapiµaka½ purato µhapetv± sakalajambud²pav±s²na½ b²jabhatta½ dentiy±pi kh²ŗabh±vo m± pańń±yittha, nibbattanibbattaµµh±ne imeyeva sasur± hontu, ayameva s±miko, ayameva d±so hot³”ti. D±sopi attano koµµh±sa½ paccekabuddhassa datv± patthana½ paµµhapesi “ito paµµh±ya evar³pa½ ch±takabhaya½ na passeyya½, sabbe ime s±mik± hontu, kasantassa ca me ito tisso, etto tisso, majjhe ek±ti d±ru-ambaŗamatt± satta satta s²t±yo gacchant³”ti. So ta½ divasa½ sen±patiµµh±na½ patthetv± laddhu½ samatthopi s±mikesu sinehena “imeyeva me s±mik± hont³”ti patthana½ paµµhapesi. Paccekabuddho sabbesampi vacan±vas±ne “eva½ hot³”ti vatv±–
“Icchita½ patthita½ tuyha½, khippameva samijjhatu;
sabbe p³rentu saŖkapp±, cando pannaraso yath±.
“Icchita½ patthita½ tuyha½, khippameva samijjhatu;
sabbe p³rentu saŖkapp±, maŗi jotiraso yath±”ti.–
Paccekabuddhag±th±hi anumodana½ katv± “may± imesa½ citta½ pas±detu½ vaµµat²”ti cintetv± “y±va gandham±danapabbat± ime ma½ passant³”ti adhiµµhahitv± pakk±mi. Tepi oloketv±va aµµha½su. So gantv± ta½ bhatta½ pańcahi paccekabuddhasatehi saddhi½ sa½vibhaji. Ta½ tass±nubh±vena sabbesampi pahoti. Te olokent±yeva aµµha½su.
Atikkante pana majjhanhike seµµhibhariy± ukkhali½ dhovitv± pidahitv± µhapesi. Seµµhipi jighacch±ya p²¼ito nipajjitv± nidda½ okkami. So s±yanhe pabujjhitv± bhariya½ ±ha– “bhadde, ativiya ch±tomhi, atthi nu kho ukkhaliy± tale jh±makasitth±n²”ti. S± dhovitv± ukkhaliy± µhapitabh±va½ j±nant²pi “natth²”ti avatv± “ukkhali½ vivaritv± ±cikkhiss±m²”ti uµµh±ya ukkhalim³la½ gantv± ukkhali½ vivari, t±vadeva sumanamakulasadisavaŗŗassa bhattassa p³r± ukkhali pidh±na½ ukkhipitv± aµµh±si. S± ta½ disv±va p²tiy± phuµµhasar²r± seµµhi½ ±ha– “uµµhehi, s±mi, aha½ ukkhali½ dhovitv± pidahi½, s± pana sumanamakulasadisavaŗŗassa bhattassa p³r±, puńń±ni n±ma kattabbar³p±ni, d±na½ n±ma kattabbayuttaka½. Uµµhehi, s±mi, bhuńjass³”ti. S± dvinna½ pit±putt±na½ bhatta½ ad±si. Tesu sutv± uµµhitesu suŗis±ya saddhi½ nis²ditv± bhuńjitv± puŗŗassa bhatta½ ad±si. Gahitagahitaµµh±na½ na kh²yati, kaµacchun± saki½ gahitaµµh±nameva pańń±yati. Ta½divasameva koµµh±dayo pubbe p³ritaniy±meneva puna p³rayi½su. “Seµµhissa gehe bhatta½ uppanna½, b²jabhattehi atthik± ±gantv± gaŗhant³”ti nagare ghosana½ k±resi. Manuss± tassa gehato b²jabhatta½ gaŗhi½su. Sakalajambud²pav±sino ta½ niss±ya j²vita½ labhi½suyeva.
So tato cuto devaloke nibbattitv± devamanussesu sa½saranto imasmi½ buddhupp±de bhaddiyanagare seµµhikule nibbatti. Bhariy±pissa mah±bhogakule nibbattitv± vayappatt± tasseva geha½ agam±si. Tassa ta½ pubbakamma½ niss±ya pacch±gehe pubbe vuttappak±r± meŗ¹ak± uµµhahi½su. Puttopi nesa½ puttova, suŗis± suŗis±va, d±so d±sova ahosi. Athekadivasa½ seµµhi attano puńńa½ v²ma½situk±mo a¹¹hateras±ni koµµhasat±ni sodh±petv± s²sa½ nh±to dv±re nis²ditv± uddha½ olokesi. Sabb±nipi vuttappak±r±na½ rattas±l²na½ p³rayi½su. So ses±nampi puńń±ni v²ma½situk±mo bhariyańca putt±dayo ca “tumh±kampi puńń±ni v²ma½sissath±”ti ±ha.

Sakaladivasampi dentiy± kaµacchun± gahitaµµh±nameva pańń±yati. Tass± pana purimabuddh±nampi bhikkhusaŖghassa v±mahatthena ukkhali½ dakkhiŗahatthena kaµacchu½ gahetv± evameva patte p³retv± bhattassa dinnatt± v±mahatthatala½ p³retv± padumalakkhaŗa½ nibbatti, dakkhiŗahatthatala½ p³retv± candalakkhaŗa½ nibbatti. Yasm± pana v±mahatthato dhammakaraŗa½ ±d±ya bhikkhusaŖghassa udaka½ pariss±vetv± dadam±n± apar±para½ vicari, tenass± dakkhiŗap±datala½ p³retv± candalakkhaŗa½ nibbatti, v±map±datala½ p³retv± padumalakkhaŗa½ nibbatti. Tass± imin± k±raŗena candapadum±ti n±ma½ kari½su.
Puttopissa s²sa½ nh±to sahassathavika½ ±d±ya “kah±paŗehi atthik± ±gacchant³”ti vatv± ±gat±gat±na½ gahitabh±jan±ni p³retv± ad±si. Thavik±ya kah±paŗasahassa½ ahosiyeva. Suŗis±pissa sabb±laŖk±rehi alaŖkaritv± v²hipiµaka½ ±d±ya ±k±saŖgaŗe nisinn± “b²jabhattehi atthik± ±gacchant³”ti vatv± ±gat±gat±na½ gahitabh±jan±ni p³retv± ad±si. Piµaka½ yath±p³ritameva ahosi. D±sopissa sabb±laŖk±rehi alaŖkaritv± suvaŗŗayugesu suvaŗŗayottehi goŗe yojetv± suvaŗŗapatodayaµµhi½ ±d±ya dvinna½ goŗ±na½ gandhapańcaŖgulik±ni datv± vis±ŗesu suvaŗŗakosake paµimuńcitv± khetta½ gantv± p±jesi. Ito tisso, etto tisso, majjhe ek±ti satta s²t± bhijjitv± agama½su. Jambud²pav±sino bhattab²jahirańńasuvaŗŗ±d²su yath±rucita½ seµµhigehatoyeva gaŗhi½su. Ime pańca mah±puńń±.
Eva½ mah±nubh±vo seµµhi “satth± kira ±gato”ti sutv± “satthu paccuggamana½ kariss±m²”ti nikkhamanto antar±magge titthiye disv± tehi “kasm± ta½, gahapati, kiriyav±do sam±no akiriyav±dassa samaŗassa gotamassa santika½ gacchas²”ti niv±riyam±nopi tesa½ vacana½ an±diyitv± gantv± satth±ra½ vanditv± ekamanta½ nis²di Athassa satth± anupubbi½ katha½ kathesi. So desan±vas±ne sot±pattiphala½ patv± satthu titthiyehi avaŗŗa½ vatv± attano niv±ritabh±va½ ±rocesi. Atha na½ satth±, “gahapati, ime satt± n±ma mahantampi attano dosa½ na passanti, avijjam±nampi paresa½ dosa½ vijjam±na½ katv± tattha tattha bhusa½ viya opunant²”ti vatv± ima½ g±tham±ha–
252. “Sudassa½ vajjamańńesa½, attano pana duddasa½;
paresańhi so vajj±ni, opun±ti yath± bhusa½;
attano pana ch±deti, kali½va kitav± saµho”ti.
Tattha sudassa½ vajjanti parassa aŗumattampi vajja½ khalita½ sudassa½ sukheneva passitu½ sakk±, attano pana atimahantampi duddasa½. Paresa½ h²ti teneva k±raŗena so puggalo saŖghamajjh±d²su paresa½ vajj±ni uccaµµh±ne µhapetv± bhusa½ opunanto viya opun±ti. Kali½va kitav± saµhoti ettha sakuŗesu aparajjhanabh±vena attabh±vo kali n±ma, s±khabhaŖg±dika½ paµicch±dana½ kitav± n±ma, s±kuŗiko saµho n±ma. Yath± sakuŗaluddako sakuŗe gahetv± m±retuk±mo kitav± viya attabh±va½ paµicch±deti, eva½ attano vajja½ ch±det²ti attho.
