S± ta½ tattha netv± pabbatamatthake µhatv± khipi. Ta½ kho pana pabbatakucchi½ niss±ya mah±ve¼ugumbo pabbat±nus±reneva va¹¹hi, tassa matthaka½ ghanaj±to jiñjukagumbo avatthari. D±rako patanto kojavake viya tasmi½ pati. Ta½ divasañca na¼ak±rajeµµhakassa ve¼ubali patto hoti. So puttena saddhi½ gantv± ta½ ve¼ugumba½ chinditu½ ±rabhi. Tasmi½ calante d±rako saddamak±si. So “d±rakasaddo viy±”ti ekena passena abhiruhitv± ta½ disv±, “putto me laddho”ti tuµµhacitto ±d±ya gato.

Seµµhi punadivase ghosaka½ pakkositv±, “hiyyo may± kumbhak±ro eka½ kamma½ ±ºatto, ehi, tva½ tassa santika½ gantv± eva½ vadehi– ‘hiyyo kira me pitar± ±ºatta½ kamma½ nipph±deh²”’ti pahiºi. So “s±dh³”ti agam±si. Ta½ tattha gacchanta½ itaro seµµhino putto d±rakehi saddhi½ gu¼a½ k²¼anto disv± ta½ pakkositv±, “kuhi½ gacchasi bh±tik±”ti pucchitv± “pitu s±sana½ gahetv± kumbhak±rassa santikan”ti vutte “aha½ tattha gamiss±mi. Ime ma½ d±rak± bahu½ lakkha½ jini½su, ta½ me paµijinitv± deh²”ti ±ha. “Aha½ pitu bh±y±m²”ti. “M± bh±yi, bh±tika, aha½ ta½ s±sana½ hariss±mi. Bah³hi jito, y±v±ha½ ±gacch±mi, t±va me lakkha½ paµijin±”ti.
Ghosako kira gu¼ak²¼±ya cheko, tena na½ eva½ nibandhi. Sopi ta½ “tena hi gantv± kumbhak±ra½ vadehi– ‘pitar± kira me hiyyo eka½ kamma½ ±ºatta½, ta½ nipph±deh²”’ti vatv± uyyojesi. So tassa santika½ gantv± tath± avaca. Atha na½ kumbhak±ro seµµhin± vuttaniy±meneva m±retv± ±v±pe khipi. Ghosakopi divasabh±ga½ k²¼itv± s±yanhasamaye geha½ gantv± “ki½, t±ta, na gatos²”ti vutte attano agatak±raºañca kaniµµhassa gatak±raºañca ±rocesi. So pana akkharasamaya½ na j±n±ti. Daharak±lato paµµh±ya hi na½ m±r±pentova seµµhi m±retu½ n±sakkhi, ki½ akkharasamaya½ sikkh±pessati? Iti so attano m±r±panapaººameva dussante bandhitv± nikkhamanto ±ha– “p±theyya½ me, t±ta, natth²”ti. “P±theyyena te kamma½ natthi, antar±magge ‘asukag±me n±ma mamasah±yako seµµhi atthi, tassa ghare p±tar±sa½ katv± purato gacch±h²”’ti. So “s±dh³”ti pitara½ vanditv± nikkhanto ta½ g±ma½ patv± seµµhissa ghara½ pucchitv± gantv± seµµhij±ya½ passi. “Tva½ kuto ±gatos²”ti ca vutte, “antonagarato”ti ±ha. “Kassa puttos²”ti? “Tumh±ka½ sah±yakaseµµhino, amm±”ti. “Tva½si ghosako n±m±”ti? “¾ma, amm±”ti. Tass± saha dassaneneva tasmi½ puttasineho uppajji. Seµµhino panek± dh²t± atthi pannarasaso¼asavassuddesik± abhir³p± p±s±dik±, ta½ rakkhitu½ ekameva pesanak±rika½ d±si½ datv± sattabh³mikassa p±s±dassa uparimatale sirigabbhe vas±penti. Seµµhidh²t± tasmi½ khaºe ta½ d±si½ antar±paºa½ pesesi. Seµµhidh²t±ya “seµµhiputto ghosako”ti n±ma½ sutv±va pema½ chaviy±d²ni chinditv± aµµhimiñja½ ±hacca µhita½. Kotuhalak±lasmiñhi s± tassa paj±pat² hutv± n±¼ikodana½ paccekabuddhassa ad±si, tass±nubh±ven±gantv± imasmi½ seµµhikule nibbatt±. Iti ta½ so pubbasineho avattharitv± gaºhi. Ten±ha bhagav±–
“Pubbeva sanniv±sena, paccuppannahitena v±;
eva½ ta½ j±yate pema½, uppala½va yathodake”ti. (J±. 1.2.174).

Seµµhi puna ±yuttaka½ avaca, “ki½, m±tula, na te mama puttassa santika½ pahitan”ti? “Pahita½, s±mi, gatapuriso na t±va et²”ti. “Tena hi puna apara½ peseh²”ti. So pesesi. Seµµhidh²t± tasmimpi tatheva paµipajji. Atha seµµhino rogo balav± j±to, eka½ bh±jana½ pavisati, eka½ nikkhamati. Puna seµµhi ±yuttaka½ pucchi– “ki½, m±tula, na te mama puttassa santika½ pahitan”ti? “Pahita½, s±mi, gatapuriso na t±va et²”ti. “Tena hi puna apara½ peseh²”ti. So pesesi. Seµµhidh²t± tatiyav±re ±gatampi ta½ pavatti½ pucchi. So “b±¼hagil±no, ayye, seµµhi ±h±ra½ pacchinditv± maccupar±yaºo j±to, eka½ bh±jana½ nikkhamati eka½ pavisat²”ti ±ha. Seµµhidh²t± “id±ni gantu½ k±lo”ti seµµhiputtassa “pit± te kira gil±no”ti ±rocetv± “ki½ vadesi bhadde”ti vutte “aph±sukamassa, s±m²”ti ±ha. “Id±ni ki½ k±tabban”ti. Atha na½ s± “pit± te dubbalo, ettaka½ paºº±k±ra½ gahetv± gacchant±na½ papañco bhavissati, eta½ nivatt±peh²”ti vatv± ta½ sabba½ attano kulageha½ pesetv± puna ta½ ±ha– “s±mi, tva½ attano pitu p±dapasse tiµµheyy±si, aha½ uss²sakapasse µhass±m²”ti.
