Suj²vanti ima½ dhammadesana½ satth± jetavane viharanto c³¼as±ri½ n±ma s±riputtattherassa saddhivih±rika½ ±rabbha kathesi.
So kira ekadivase vejjakamma½ katv± paº²tabhojana½ labhitv± ±d±ya nikkhamanto antar±magge thera½ disv±, “bhante, ida½ may± vejjakamma½ katv± laddha½, tumhe aññattha evar³pa½ bhojana½ na labhissatha, ima½ bhuñjatha, aha½ te vejjakamma½ katv± niccak±la½ evar³pa½ ±h±ra½ ±hariss±m²”ti ±ha. Thero tassa vacana½ sutv± tuºh²bh³tova pakk±mi. Bhikkh³ vih±ra½ gantv± satthu tamattha½ ±rocesu½. Satth±, “bhikkhave, ahiriko n±ma pagabbho k±kasadiso hutv± ekav²satividh±ya anesan±ya µhatv± sukha½ j²vati, hiri-ottappasampanno pana dukkha½ j²vat²”ti vatv± im± g±th± abh±si–
244. “Suj²va½ ahirikena, k±kas³rena dha½sin±;
pakkhandin± pagabbhena, sa½kiliµµhena j²vita½.
245. “Hir²mat± ca dujj²va½, nicca½ sucigavesin±;
al²nen±ppagabbhena, suddh±j²vena passat±”ti.
Tattha ahiriken±ti chinnahirottappakena. Evar³pena hi am±tarameva “m±t± me”ti apit±dayo eva ca “pit± me”ti-±din± nayena vatv± ekav²satividh±ya anesan±ya patiµµh±ya sukhena j²vatu½ sakk±. K±kas³ren±ti s³rak±kasadisena. Yath± hi s³rak±ko kulagharesu y±gu-±d²ni gaºhituk±mo bhitti-±d²su nis²ditv± attano olokanabh±va½ ñatv± anolokento viya aññavihitako viya nidd±yanto viya ca hutv± manuss±na½ pam±da½ sallakkhetv± anupatitv± “s³s³”ti vadantesuyeva bh±janato mukhap³ra½ gahetv± pal±yati, evameva½ ahirikapuggalopi bhikkh³hi saddhi½ g±ma½ pavisitv± y±gubhattaµµh±n±d²ni vavatthapeti. Tattha bhikkh³ piº¹±ya caritv± y±panamatta½ ±d±ya ±sanas±la½ gantv± paccavekkhant± y±gu½ pivitv± kammaµµh±na½ manasi karonti sajjh±yanti ±sanas±la½ sammajjanti. Aya½ pana akatv± g±m±bhimukhova hoti.
So hi bhikkh³hi “passathiman”ti olokiyam±nopi anolokento viya aññavihito viya nidd±yanto viya gaºµhika½ paµimuñcanto viya c²vara½ sa½vidahanto viya hutv± “asuka½ n±ma me kamma½ atth²”ti vadanto uµµh±y±san± g±ma½ pavisitv± p±tova vavatthapitagehesu aññatara½ geha½ upasaªkamitv± gharam±nusakesu thoka½ kav±µa½ pidh±ya dv±re nis²ditv± kandantesupi ekena hatthena kav±µa½ paº±metv± anto pavisati. Atha na½ disv± ak±mak±pi ±sane nis²d±petv± y±gu-±d²su ya½ atthi, ta½ denti. So y±vadattha½ bhuñjitv± avasesa½ patten±d±ya pakkamati. Aya½ k±kas³ro n±ma. Evar³pena ahirikena suj²vanti attho.
Dha½sin±ti “asukatthero n±ma appiccho”ti-±d²ni vadantesu– “ki½ pana maya½ na appicch±”ti-±divacanena paresa½ guºadha½sanat±ya dha½sin±. Tath±r³passa vacana½ sutv± “ayampi appicchat±diguºe yutto”ti maññam±n± manuss± d±tabba½ maññanti. So pana tato paµµh±ya viññ³puris±na½ citta½ ±r±dhetu½ asakkonto tamh±pi l±bh± parih±yati. Eva½ dha½sipuggalo attanopi parassapi l±bha½ n±setiyeva.
Pakkhandin±ti pakkhandac±rin±. Paresa½ kicc±nipi attano kicc±ni viya dassento p±tova bhikkh³su cetiyaªgaº±d²su vatta½ katv± kammaµµh±namanasik±rena thoka½ nis²ditv± uµµh±ya g±ma½ pavisantesu mukha½ dhovitv± paº¹uk±s±vap±rupana-akkhi-añjanas²samakkhan±d²hi attabh±va½ maº¹etv± sammajjanto viya dve tayo sammajjanipah±re datv± dv±rakoµµhak±bhimukho hoti. Manuss± p±tova “cetiya½ vandiss±ma, m±l±p³ja½ kariss±m±”ti ±gat± ta½ disv± “aya½ vih±ro ima½ dahara½ niss±ya paµijaggana½ labhati, ima½ m± pamajjitth±”ti vatv± tassa d±tabba½ maññanti. Evar³pena pakkhandin±pi suj²va½. Pagabbhen±ti k±yap±gabbhiy±d²hi samann±gatena. Sa½kiliµµhena j²vitanti eva½ j²vika½ kappetv± j²vantena hi puggalena sa½kiliµµhena hutv± j²vita½ n±ma hoti, ta½ dujj²vita½ p±pamev±ti attho.
Hir²mat± c±ti hirottappasampannena puggalena dujj²va½. So hi am±t±dayova “m±t± me”ti-±d²ni avatv± adhammike paccaye g³tha½ viya jigucchanto dhammena samena pariyesanto sapad±na½ piº¹±ya caritv± j²vika½ kappento l³kha½ j²vika½ j²vat²ti attho. Sucigavesin±ti suc²ni k±yakamm±d²ni gavesantena. Al²nen±ti j²vitavuttimanall²nena. Suddh±j²vena passat±ti evar³po hi puggalo suddh±j²vo n±ma hoti. Tena eva½ suddh±j²vena tameva suddh±j²va½ s±rato passat± l³khaj²vitavasena dujj²va½ hot²ti attho.
