M±t± nivattitv± olokent² putta½ adisv±, “s±mi, kuhi½ me putto”ti pucchi. “Ekassa me gacchassa heµµh± nipajj±pito”ti. “S±mi, m± ma½ n±sayi, putta½ vin± j²vitu½ na sakkhiss±mi, ±nehi me puttan”ti ura½ paharitv± paridevi. Bhariy± “s±mi, tayi j²vante ahampi j²v±mi n±ma, d²gharatta½ ³nodarosi, y±vadattha½ bhuńj±h²”ti sappińca dadhińca tadabhimukhańńeva katv± attan± mandasappin± thokameva bhuńji. Athassa bhariy± sar²rakicca½ katv± tasmi½yeva gehe bhati½ katv± taŗ¹ulan±¼i½ labhitv± pacitv± paccekabuddhassa patte patiµµh±petv±, “d±sassa vo p±puŗ±t³”ti vatv± cintesi– “may± idheva vasitu½ vaµµati, nibaddha½, ayyo, idh±gacchati, deyyadhammo hotu v±, m± v±, devasika½ vandant² veyy±vacca½ karont² citta½ pas±dent² bahu½ puńńa½ pasaviss±m²”ti. S± tattheva bhati½ karont² vasi. S±pi sunakh² chaµµhe v± sattame v± m±se ekameva kukkura½ vij±yi. Gop±lako tassa ekadhenuy± kh²ra½ d±pesi. So na cirasseva va¹¹hi. Athassa paccekabuddho bhuńjanto nibaddha½ eka½ bhattapiŗ¹a½ deti. So bhattapiŗ¹a½ niss±ya paccekabuddhe sinehamak±si. Gop±lakopi nibaddha½ dve v±re paccekabuddhassupaµµh±na½ y±ti. Gacchantopi antar±magge v±¼amigaµµh±ne daŗ¹ena gacche ca bh³mińca paharitv± “sus³”ti tikkhattu½ sadda½ katv± v±¼amige pal±peti. Sunakhopi tena saddhi½ gacchati.
So ekadivasa½ paccekabuddha½ ±ha– “bhante, yad± me ok±so na bhavissati, tad± ima½ sunakha½ pesess±mi, tena sańń±ŗena ±gaccheyy±th±”ti. Tato paµµh±ya anok±sadivase, “gaccha, t±ta, ayya½ ±neh²”ti sunakha½ pesesi. So ekavacaneneva pakkhanditv± s±mikassa gacchapothanabh³mipothanaµµh±ne tikkhattu½ bhussitv± tena saddena v±¼amig±na½ pal±tabh±va½ ńatv± p±tova sar²rapaµijaggana½ katv± paŗŗas±la½ pavisitv± nisinnassa paccekabuddhassa vasanaµµh±na½ gantv± paŗŗas±ladv±re tikkhattu½ bhussitv± attano ±gatabh±va½ j±n±petv± ekamante nipajjati, paccekabuddhe vela½ sallakkhetv± nikkhante bhussanto purato gacchati. Antarantar± paccekabuddho ta½ v²ma½santo ańńa½ magga½ paµipajjati. Athassa purato tiriya½ µhatv± bhussitv± itaramaggameva na½ ±ropeti. Athekadivasa½ ańńa½ magga½ paµipajjitv± tena purato tiriya½ µhatv± v±riyam±nopi anivattitv± sunakha½ p±dena paharitv± p±y±si. Sunakho tassa anivattanabh±va½ ńatv± niv±sanakaŗŗe ¹a½sitv± ±ka¹¹hanto itaramaggameva na½ ±ropesi. Eva½ so tasmi½ balavasineha½ upp±desi.
Tato aparabh±ge paccekabuddhassa c²vara½ j²ri. Athassa gop±lako c²varavatth±ni ad±si. Tamena½ paccekabuddho ±ha– “±vuso, c²vara½ n±ma ekakena k±tu½ dukkara½, ph±sukaµµh±na½ gantv± k±ress±m²”ti. “Idheva, bhante, karoth±”ti. “Na sakk±, ±vuso”ti. “Tena hi, bhante, m± cira½ bahi vasitth±”ti. Sunakho tesa½ katha½ suŗantova aµµh±si, paccekabuddhopi “tiµµha, up±sak±”ti gop±laka½ nivatt±petv± veh±sa½ abbhuggantv± gandham±dan±bhimukho p±y±si. Sunakhassa ta½ ±k±sena gacchanta½ disv± bhukkaritv± µhitassa tasmi½ cakkhupatha½ vijahante hadaya½ phalitv± mato. Tiracch±n± kira n±mete ujuj±tik± honti akuµil±. Manuss± pana ańńa½ hadayena cintenti, ańńa½ mukhena kathenti. Tenev±ha– “gahanańheta½, bhante, yadida½ manuss±, utt±nakańheta½, bhante, yadida½ pasavo”ti (ma. ni. 2.3).
Iti so t±ya ujucittat±ya akuµilat±ya k±la½ katv± t±vati½sabhavane nibbatto acchar±sahassaparivuto mah±sampatti½ anubhosi. Tassa kaŗŗam³le mantayantassa saddo so¼asayojanaµµh±na½ pharati, pakatikath±saddo pana sakala½ dasayojanasahassa½ devanagara½ ch±deti. Tenevassa “ghosakadevaputto”ti n±ma½ ahosi. “Kissa panesa nissando”ti. Paccekabuddhe pemena bhukkaraŗassa nissando. So tattha na cira½ µhatv± cavi. Devalokato hi devaputt± ±yukkhayena puńńakkhayena ±h±rakkhayena kopen±ti cat³hi k±raŗehi cavanti.
Tattha yena bahu½ puńńakamma½ kata½ hoti, so devaloke uppajjitv± y±vat±yuka½ µhatv± upar³pari nibbattati. Eva½ ±yukkhayena cavati n±ma. Yena paritta½ puńńa½ kata½ hoti, tassa r±jakoµµh±g±re pakkhitta½ ticatun±¼imatta½ dhańńa½ viya antar±va ta½ puńńa½kh²yati, antar±va k±la½ karoti Eva½ puńńakkhayena cavati n±ma. Aparopi k±maguŗe paribhuńjam±no satisammosena ±h±ra½ aparibhuńjitv± kilantak±yo k±la½ karoti. Eva½ ±h±rakkhayena cavati n±ma. Aparopi parassa sampatti½ asahanto kujjhitv± k±la½ karoti. Eva½ kopena cavati n±ma.
Aya½ pana k±maguŗe paribhuńjanto muµµhassati hutv± ±h±rakkhayena cavi, cavitv± ca pana kosambiya½ nagarasobhiniy± kucchimhi paµisandhi½ gaŗhi. S±pi j±tadivase “ki½ etan”ti d±si½ pucchitv±, “putto, ayye”ti vutte– “handa, je, ima½ d±raka½ kattarasuppe ±ropetv± saŖk±rak³µe cha¹¹eh²”ti cha¹¹±pesi. Nagarasobhiniyo hi dh²tara½ paµijagganti, na putta½. Dh²tar± hi t±sa½ paveŗ² ghaµ²yati. D±raka½ k±k±pi sunakh±pi pariv±retv± nis²di½su. Paccekabuddhe sinehappabhavassa bhukkaraŗassa nissandena ekopi upagantu½ na visahi. Tasmi½ khaŗe eko manusso bahi nikkhanto ta½ k±kasunakhasannip±ta½ disv±, “ki½ nu kho etan”ti gantv± d±raka½ disv± puttasineha½ paµilabhitv± “putto me laddho”ti geha½ nesi. Tad± kosambakaseµµhi r±jakula½ gacchanto r±janivesanato ±gacchanta½ purohita½ disv±, “ki½, ±cariya, ajja te tithikaraŗanakkhattayogo olokito”ti pucchi. “¾ma, mah±seµµhi, amh±ka½ ki½ ańńa½ kiccanti? Janapadassa ki½ bhavissat²”ti? “Ańńa½ natthi, imasmi½ pana nagare ajja j±tad±rako jeµµhakaseµµhi bhavissat²”ti. Tad± seµµhino bhariy± garugabbh± hoti. Tasm± so s²gha½ geha½ purisa½ pesesi– “gaccha bhaŗe, j±n±hi na½ vij±t± v±, no v±”ti. “Na vij±yat²”ti sutv± r±j±na½ disv±va vegena geha½ gantv± k±¼i½ n±ma d±si½ pakkositv± sahassa½ datv±, “gaccha je, imasmi½ nagare upadh±retv± sahassa½ datv± ajja j±tad±raka½ gaŗhitv± eh²”ti. S± upadh±rent² ta½ geha½ gantv± d±raka½ disv±, “aya½ d±rako kad± j±to”ti gahapat±ni½ pucchitv± “ajja j±to”ti vutte, “ima½ mayha½ deh²”ti ekakah±paŗa½ ±di½ katv± m³la½ va¹¹hent² sahassa½ datv± ta½ ±netv± seµµhino dassesi. Seµµhi “sace me dh²t± vij±yissati, t±ya na½ saddhi½ nivesetv± seµµhiµµh±nassa s±mika½ kariss±mi. Sace me putto vij±yissati, m±ress±mi nan”ti cintetv± ta½ gehe k±resi.

Anekasatag±viyo usabhassa dve pass±ni gha½santiyo nikkhami½su. Gop±lakopi “aya½ usabho pubbe sabbapacch± nikkhamati, ajja pana sabbapaµhama½ nikkhamitv± vajadv±ramajjhe niccalova µhito, ki½ nu kho etan”ti cintetv± gantv± tassa heµµh± nipanna½ d±raka½ disv± puttasineha½ paµilabhitv±, “putto me laddho”ti geha½ nesi.

Atha na½ ±ha– “amma, k±¼i imasmi½ nagare pańca sakaµasat±ni pacc³sak±le uµµh±ya v±ŗijj±ya gacchanti, tva½ ima½ netv± cakkamagge nipajj±pehi, goŗ± v± na½ maddissanti, cakk± v± chindissanti, pavatti½ cassa ńatv±va ±gaccheyy±s²”ti. S± ta½ netv± cakkamagge nipajj±pesi. Tad± s±kaµikajeµµhako purato ahosi. Athassa goŗ± ta½ µh±na½ patv± dhura½ cha¹¹esu½, punappuna½ ±ropetv± p±jiyam±n±pi purato na gacchi½su. S± ta½ netv± tattha nipajj±petv± ekamante aµµh±si. Ta½ sunakho v± k±ko v± amanusso v± upasaŖkamitu½ n±sakkhi. “Nanu cassa neva m±t± na pit± na bh±tik±d²su koci rakkhit± n±ma atthi, ko ta½ rakkhat²”ti? Sunakhak±le paccekabuddhe sinehena pavattitabhukkaraŗamattameva ta½ rakkhati. Atheko ajap±lako anekasahass± aj± gocara½ nento sus±napassena gacchati. Ek± aj± paŗŗ±ni kh±dam±n± gacchantara½ paviµµh± d±raka½ disv± jaŗŗukehi µhatv± d±rakassa thana½ ad±si, ajap±lakena “he he”ti sadde katepi na nikkhami. So “yaµµhiy± na½ paharitv± n²hariss±m²”ti gacchantara½ paviµµho jaŗŗukehi µhatv± d±raka½ kh²ra½ p±yanti½ aji½ disv± d±rake puttasineha½ paµilabhitv±, “putto me laddho”ti ±d±ya pakk±mi.
